    Hi all,

Been having this problem for a couple weeks now.  I missed a "1" when I tried to add a remote share using UD.  I'm trying to remove it from the UNRAID GUI and cannot. The GUI tries to remove, says it has been removed but then it's still there.

    image.thumb.png.de77d2131e4ae5a3de8546e1e40c8bb1.png

I waited for the latest UD update to come down a couple days ago and installed it.  Still no joy.

    things I have tried ...

    - stopping array and try to remove the remote share

    - Putty session  into UNRAID server and ensure that the remote share\folder was not in the remotes folder

I am running the most recent versions of dlandon UD & UD Plus ...

    image.thumb.png.cb6cdc83b926b952cbcc7c3a607148b1.png

any suggestions much appreciated ... thanks,

I think 1.8 should be fine for future upgrades there is a change to ssl libs between 6.12 and 6.13 hence the package change.

Kool ... thanks for the info. I expected as much.

    update ...

Ok.  So playing around in the lab this am. As per the instructions

    1)      I installed  socat-1.7.4.3 on my UNRAID 6.12-.10 Pro server

    2)      I configured the serial connection in the XML file for my OpenVMS VM as outlined in the steps

    image.png.06abd289b882defdb982dedc79f890d1.png

    3)      I configured the serial connection in the XML file for my Linux mint VM (Serial console machine) VM – on the same UNRAID server as OpenVMS VM.

     image.png.dd1d5b1823b7ff5ebdaf37f9294fc874.png

    4)      Powered up both VMs and then from command prompt on UNRAID server ran

    a.       socat -dd  UNIX-CLIENT:/tmp/foo  UNIX-CLIENT:/tmp/foo2

    b.       got the desired connection results

    image.thumb.png.b6193bf0ebb26f5a325905e8d9b83426.png

    5)      Went back to my linux mint console VM and checked the tty ports

    image.thumb.png.85d690e1c44b67a3e76169ec2605d52d.png

    6)      Then tried a screen connect to get a console session on my OpenVMS VM from my Linux Mint VM … screen failed to open – used à sudo screen /dev/ttyS0 115200

    image.thumb.png.e8479d817668889792f8d29469c06860.png

Should I be using another command on my Linux mint machine to get console display from the OpenVMS VM ?

This is what the UNRAID console session for the OPenVMS VM looks like in UNRAID VM Console (VNC) …

and this is what I am trying to get on my Linux Mint VM with the serial console connect.

    image.png.9e7a43371542a125717baebbe46cbf20.png

I feel like this a brain freeze on my part … so close but missing something. I’m reading up on socat whitepapers.  I’m not a Guru Linux guy but learning.  J

    Thanks,

Looks like it should be possible. https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/serial-port-between-two-vms.63833/

I dont have the XML to enable as yet, also socatis not install within Unraid so would need to get a package for that also.

Thanks a lot SimonF for the speedy reply.  I will work on it this weekend to see if I can get it working.  Awesome !    🙂

forgot to mention that I am on UNRAID 6.12.10 Pro version .... yikes how stupid of me that I forgot to mention this !

so if I am understanding your setup I should use the socat-1.7.4.3-x86_64-1.txz version

but for the next release of UNRAID I will need to install the socat-1.8.0.0-x86_64-1.txz version.

Not sure if you can tell me this but, will I have to keep installing the latest version of socat each time UNRAID OS is upgraded ... or  after each upgrade I should check it it still works and if not search for latest version of socat?

anyhow thanks again ... will go to my lab later and try this out.  🙂

    thanks,

  4. Hi All,

I have been searching for days now and have not found a solution yet.

I'm trying to use a Linux mint VM and VSI OpenVMS on x86 VM, both on the same UNRAID server and have them share a serial connection using the Linux mint VM as the serial console connection for the VMS server VM.  Yes I know nostalgia here ... but when I first started working after University my 1st job was a VAX Operator.

Much appreciated if someone knows how to set this up.  I've tried suggestion I googled and can't get it working.

I have this working on my VMWare Pro Workstation host with the serial connection for both VMs a named pipe.

I want to get this working on my UNRAID server in hopes to set up another VAX and get a VAX cluster going between the two systems.

    thanks,

All versions of Unraid are functionally equal, the only difference being the number of attached devices allowed by the licence level.

I know this is an old thread (responding as there was a post yesterday), but thanks to all those that chimed in to help me.  It's been a few years and I have my UNRAID server working perfectly. Integrated into my windows 2022 AD Domain (home lab) and working like a charm.  I also have OpenMedia Vault (OMV) server integrated into my AD domain (home lab) and running rsync scripts on UNRAID server (user scripts) to backup all my UNRAID shares, VMs etc to my OMV server. OMV server is just used as a backup server ... No Apps\dockers installed on it.

Yes I know it's not the best way to backup but works for me.  For any of you interested I do have VM backups and  backup\restore apps installed on UNRAID and running on schedule ... but the rsync is used to backup the shares, backups and VMBackups.  I know you think overkill but last summer when I was upgrading my disks from 4 TB to 8 TB,  I lost 2 drives ... data gone. 😞  Disk failures.  So I now have 2 parity drives and 2 cache drives (before I only had 1 of each) & my OMV BackUp Server .  SO I should be ok now.

@Jaycedk thanks for putting me on the right track.  I could not find the zoom settings ... should have checked the zoom settings in Chrome browser but you did put me on the right track to go back to default.  I made a simple problem more complicated.

Simply went to dafult settings and selected DEFAULT | Done ... then selected Black and Apply.  The dashbord is the way I want it now.  OMG I have been stuck with the fully expanded row by row dashboard since I upgrade to 6.12 ... thought this was the new dashboard all expanded.   lol

but I am happy now ... got my dsahboar back to this view ...

would also like to add that @Jaycedk was correct about the zoom settings. This can be used to fix the dashboard tiles row by row. When @ 100% zoom, lower it to about 90% and the tiles will fall neatly back into place.

I tried debugging the file you gave me, but I didn't find any error, but I don't know if I'm looking for a bug in the logic or a bug in the UI part.

I think you can do it, you just need to move things around a bit.

Found how to fix.  It had to do with dynamix color schemes.  Putting the UNRAID display setting  back to default white fixes my dashboard problem opening up fully expanded row by row.  All other color schemes other than the default white expands the dashboard in this mannner. Or at least for me.

I need the debug file (first post for instructions), for the VM tabs and the dashboard, what I can advise is to try and reorder the VMs in the VMs tab and refresh, this happened with migration from the old plugin to the new.

@scolcipitato   .... thanks so much for your speedy reply.

#1/ just as you said on the VMs tab I unlocked the page and then moved one of the VMs  ... then <ctrl><F5> and poof the 3 VMs folders showed up & I was able to populate with VMs.  So this is all fixed for me now.  Awesome Sauce !

Now as for the dashboard I tried the same process as above plus show/hide all content and <ctrl><f5>. I was able to get the dashboard looking like it should but as soon as I expand all folders ie\ it reverts back to all folders row by row a couple pages long.

    unlock button --> hide all ->  then <ctrl><f5>  ...

I verified that my custom settings in the Folder View containers & VM are not set to expand on dashboard.

I'm not sure if this is the behaviour of UNRAID 6.12, but I was wondering if the dashboard can be setup as in V 6.10  ... like this ...

    676661545_UNRAIDV6.10DashBoard.thumb.png.93c8c63be28984bd547ec49432c1ccd4.png

I Like this view ... Docker Folders use keep this view on V 6.10, but I have yet figured out how to get this view back with V 6.12 either with docker folders or folder view.

So in the one of threads you pointed me to ... on the dashboard I typed 'debug' .. the debug logs came down....

    debug-DASHBOARD-DOCKER.json

    debug-DASHBOARD-VM.json

I hope I followed the instructions properly ... this is my 1st time downloading logs in UNRAID and uploading debug logs to forum.

Again I really appreciate all your hard work both providing and helping us with these awesome tools !

    thanks again,

    E

  11. Hi Guys,

and a big shoutout to @scolcipitato for taking this project on and bringing us all joy!

I am running UNRAID version 6.12.3.

I uninstalled by Docker Folder plugin .. as per the instructions on the Folder View pages.

OMG ! forgot how Nasty a pile of docker containers looks without a folder mgmt plugin.  😁

Then I installed folder View  via CA ... don't know what version it was but I just finished updating it to  ver# 2023.08.20 as a update for 2023.08.20 popped up on my screen.

    #1/

In either case I am having a small problem with creating VM Folders ... I've tried creating 3 different VM folders and none of them are showing up in the VMs tab. ... Just my 8 VMs that I have on UNRAID and no folders.

    #2/

My main dashboard is that horrendous fully expanded view .. is there any way to get back the small compact view showing my all folders on the main dashboard including the custom VMs and Container folders from Folder View plugin.  Docker folders plugin use to do this.  I think up until version 6.10 or something like that .. 6.12 it broke.

    #3/

absolutely no issues with the docker containers and creating custom folders in docker containers, adding custom animated icons and populating the custom docker container folders with containers.  The containers do show up on the main dashboard, but in fully expanded mode. yuck !

BTW I have tried rebooting my server and clearing my browser(s) cache with CCLeaner .. still no joy. 😒

I know I am missing something really stupid here ... been at it for a couple hrs now.

and last on the docker tab I can see the slider for basic and advanced view... and it works.

I'm not sure if I am remembering correctly, but on the VM tab before any custom folders was added, I'm pretty sure I saw the basic\advanced slider and then when I created my first VM folder .. that slider is now gone.  But then I could have been imagining things as like I said I have been at it for a while.  I will go to bed and sleep on it.

    thanks in advance,

    E

Please forgive me if I AM missing anything obvious .. but I have been through all 7 pages of this thread  and I did not really see anything about VM folders not being created or the main dashboard still being in fully expanded  view.

I tried this yesterday.... but I must have been so irritated of stuff not working that I messed up somewhere and it didn't work. Worked for me today though. Thanks for pointing me back to this post.

awesome !  glad to hear it is working for you. Way to hang in there and get it done.

Again I would have never figured it out without some direction from other seasoned UNRAID users.

When I have time I will go back thru these posts and try to get NordLynx VPN working as my backup VPN.  I have been struggling to get this working but some recent posts has given me some options to try to get this VPN working.

Sorry already tried that, it didn't work.

Sorry to hear that.  I'm not sure where to go from here.  You may have to hack at it until you figure out what is wrong ... or maybe some other more seasoned UNRAID veteran can help.

are you sure you tried all the settings in spaceinvader1's video?  Spaceinvader1 specifically noted that the NZBGET web GUI could not be launched from the drop down list in the docker container once it has been routed thru VPN container (odd because deluge GUI can be launched without any further config) ... you had to add  the port for NZBGET & manually enter the serverIp:port# in your web browser URL to use nzbget.  ie/192.168.1.100:9898

I have the same issue, if you set nzbget to bridge without using NordVPN it works fine, it's seem's like the port information add to NordVPN for nzbget is not working properly. Does anyone have any idea how to set this up so it works?

sorry to hear that guys ... maybe this spaceinvader1 tutorial may help ...

thisi is the tutorial I used to set up my deluge and he shows how to setup nzbget to be routed thru VPN.

if you get stuck with anything in UNRAID server, search for spaceinvader1 tutorials.  This chap really is a UNRAID rockstar.

what container are you trying to route thru NordVPN... is it Deluge ?

Deluge works fine for me.  I really don't know about any other containers as this is the only container I route thru NordVPN so I don't get a NastyGram e-mail from my ISP for my downloads.

But from what I read they should all work ... I'm not sure why your WEBUI mgmt link no longer works for the container you are trying to route thru VPN container.

maybe post some screen captures so we can see the link the container is using to launch the mgmt web GUI.

    - went into CA and searched for NordVPN ... scroll down until you see nordvpn tmknight88

    - install with default settings

    - stop the nordVPN container

    - edit the container and swtich to advanced view

    - configured as follows ...

           - Extra Parameters:    --cap-add=NET_ADMIN --cap-add=NET_RAW

           - Network Type:    Bridge

           - Console shell command: Shell

           - DNS: (Variable)            1.1.1.1,8.8.8.8 + the IPs for my domain DNS servers as my unraid server is                a member of my domain

did not have to change  binhex deluge setting as the net container net route is still the same in the extra parameters settings ...

    extra parameters: --net=container:nordvpn-1

now when I run the NordVPN console and check status for this nordVPN container I do not receive new update is available.  WOOHOO current !

    #nordvpn status                    returns ...

  19. My joy was short lived ... woke up this morning to find my NordVPN container broken again. Was working great with repository: bubuntux/nordvpn:v3.12.3 (2 versions back)

    log has this message ...

Logging in via ‘--legacy’, ‘--username’, and ‘--password’ flags is deprecated. Use ‘nordvpn login' or ‘nordvpn login --nordaccount’ to
log in via browser. Alternatively, you can use ‘nordvpn login --token’ to log in with a generated token.

We couldn't log you in. Make sure your credentials are correct. If you have MFA enabled, log in using the 'nordvpn login' command.
    Invalid Username or password.

btw MFA is tunred off on my NordVPN account and I know the credentials are correct as I logged in with web brower snap-in without issue.

as we know nordvpn:v3.12.3 is 2 versions behind but it did work up until last night.

I'm guessing something was changed/turned off on NordVN backend to break the authentication this way.  I tried tried it with token and that does not work either.

When I last spoke the NordVPN tech support I asked them if they plan to make a official Docker container  to add to their windows and Linux installs ?  They said perhaps maybe in the future, whenver that may be.

I'm going to try guillelopez suggestion noted in the post above.

    Greetings All;

I have a NordVPN container installed on my first UnRAID server that is apparently now legacy although its been working flawlessly. When I look at the log, I see a message saying,

Please migrate to the NordLynx container (https://github.com/bubuntux/nordlynx)

Here is your private Key: REDACTED

So, as I am starting the setup of a new/2nd UnRAID server, I went to APPS and installed the nordlynx container however I'm having a tough time getting it to work.

When I look at the settings for the container, I see:

    PRIVATE_KEY

    QUERY

    NET_LOCAL

I've set my network to 10.0.26.0/24 (my use-case) and I've tried copying the private key from the log of my existing/working NordVPN install and entering that in the PRIVATE_KEY field however once started, it fails to connect to any servers. In the log, it sits at: Finding the best server...

Another oddity. When I open a console on my existing and working NordVPN container and enter "nordvpn status" on the CLI, it returns information. When I open a consol on my new unRaid server's NordLynx container and enter "nordvpn status" or "nordlynx status" it returns a "sh: nordlynx: not found" error. Also, "curl ifconfig.io" returns a "sh: ifconfig.io: not found".

I also see a missing icon for the container and the version in the Docker tab indicates "not available" and the UPTIME entry indicates "Uptime: 3 minutes (health: starting)" then after a short period it changes to "unhealthy".

Has anyone made this work and if so, what are the fields (existing or that need to be added) that I should be configuring?

I'm certain I'll have to add the ports for any other containers that I want to be routed through the NordLynx container.

    Hi Jimdaway,

I  had similar issues with NordLynx this past weekend  (none of the nordvpn\curl commands worked)... I gave up and went back to using NordVPN rolled back to last working version v3.12.3 (with TECHNOLOGY setting OpenVPN).  It still spits out a warning that there is a new version available in the NordVPN console but I managed to get it working.

The weird thing is that I'm pretty sure on NordVPN's site re\installing NordVPN linux client .. I'm sure I saw that it uses OpenVPN technology.

Please let us know if you getting working ... another set of eyes tackling this issue from another direction should help.

    thanks,

    E

Just to keep you all in the loop, just finished and sent a e-mail to NordVPN support requesting they check access to Canada servers from linux\docker for my account  .. the email was quite long with all the details so I'll spare you the details as it is pretty much all my findings I have posted in the past few days.    Will let you know what they come back with. Being a fellow peer IT guy, I know they will make me jump thru hoops to get a check done and will immediately blame the app.

I just find it strange that it does not work for 2  versions of NordVPN and does not work for NordLynx either.

But 1st step is to confirm that linux functionality is working for my account.  I know I can still use the NordVPN chrome web browser snap-in and connect to Canada Servers without issue & surf web in protected mode.

so here's the final update as it is workging for me now  ...

Heard bak from NordVPN support today.  This is what they said to try to fix ...

    "Thank you for your letter.

Please update the NordVPN application, to the latest version which is 3.16.0.

You can do that, by reinstalling the NordVPN application by following these steps:

    sudo apt autoremove --purge nordvpn
When finished, use these commands to install the NordVPN application back into your device:
    cd ~/Downloads
    sudo wget "https://repo.nordvpn.com/deb/nordvpn/debian/pool/main/nordvpn-release_1.0.0_all.deb"
    sudo dpkg -i nordvpn-release_1.0.0_all.deb
    sudo apt update
    sudo apt upgrade
    sudo apt install nordvpn
If the issue persists, please provide us with the NordVPN application's connection logs.

In order to do that, open the terminal and type this command:

    sudo journalctl -u nordvpnd > ~/Desktop/daemonlog.txt

You will find a new file daemonlog.txt on your desktop.

Please send us this file by attaching it to your reply."

Unfortunately we know a lot of these linux commands will not work in UNRAID for Docker apps.

My main goal was to see if they came back with a "yeah your NordVPN account has problem" and then fix my account if it was broken.

so then I played the re-install\un-intstall\re-install game ... and this is what worked ...

    •    Un-install bunbuntux NordVPN app
    •    Re-install bunbuntux NordVPN     (nordvpn:v3.12.5 -  leaving all default values)
    •    Edit bunbuntux NordVPN app and change repository to : bubuntux/nordvpn:v3.12.3    reverts back to previous version known to be working
    •    Configure NordVPN parameters & variables

    for configuration ...
    - edit NordVPN, change view to advanced

    extra parameters: --cap-add=NET_ADMIN --cap-add=NET_RAW

    variables added ...
    USER:    MyNordVPNAccountUsername
PASS:   MyNordVPNAccountPassword     (**no quotes aroud the password)
    TECHNOLOGY: OpenVPN
DNS:        1.1.1.1,8.8.8.8,      (**note** I also added the IPs of my 1st and 2nd DCs in my domain as my UNRAID server is a member of my Windows AD Domain)
NET_LOCAL:    192.168.1.0/24     (my lan ip range)

    port added
    binhex-deluge: 8112        port for binhex-deluge

    - save and run

once runnnig entered NordVPN console and check status with "nordvpn status" .. returned this ...

    # nordvpn status

A new version of NordVPN is available! Please update the application.
    Status: Connected
    Current server: ca1515.nordvpn.com
    Country: Canada
    City: Toronto
    Server IP: 37.19.212.142
    Current technology: OPENVPN
    Current protocol: UDP
Transfer: 5.62 GiB received, 0.88 GiB sent
    Uptime: 2 hours 5 minutes

OK good now we are getting somewhere.

edited binhex-deluge, changed to advanced view .

    changed extra parameters to: --net=container:nordvpn-1
    saved and run

WOO HOO !  It's working again.

Just to make sure it was not a fluke and the changes stuck I completely shuutdown the UNRAID server to a complete powered off state.

Powered it back on ... still working. Finally !

thanks all for your help fellow UNRAIDERS,

    E

    **note**

I tried this several times over the past day.  After reading the NordVPNs tech's email the fix I noted in the steps above to un-install re-install plus the configurations I noted worked.

Not sure why this process did not work yesterday as I must of done this 10 times.

I should also add that ..

    $nordvpn connect canada

    returns ...

    - A newer version of nordvpn is available ...    again

    - Connecting to Canada #1657 (ca1657.nordvpn.com)

    - whoops we couldn't connect you to 'canada'. Please try again.  If the problem persists, contact our customer support.

    - and then returns me to the command prompt /#

I guess my next steps will be to contact NordVPN and have them decipher what is going on.

    Will keep you all posted.
