  1. I've tried direct connect to the router which is connected to the unraid server via cable and wifi, no go, seems like i have to log into it with my PC then i can log in with my laptop.
  2. Hello, so i set up the tower from my dektop PC which is wired tot the server, now im on my laptop which is wifi and i cannot login from it, meaning i can log into the tower from the website only if i login from my PC first ?
  3. Hey guys, so my internet went down and i said screw it ill watch a movie on the server i have, the network cable or is connected to the wireless router and then the wireless router is wired to my computer....but when the internet went down i noticed it wouldn't let me transfer ? The server is 6 feet from the wireless router.
  4. gotcha, 2 things...1) just flash the flash stick and back in, nothing else special ? 2) whats a good utility you guys have used to calculate transfer speed...to be honest 6G has taken 1 hour plus right now through my router (wired)
  5. Ah, well that would explain it. So what log-in can be treated like admin where all areas can be accessed.
  6. It happens much, much more than it should with MS peer-to-peer. One minute is broke and nothing seems to fix it and then, suddenly, without anything being done (Besides cursing at the thing), it starts working. Glad to hear your experience was one of these cases. Thank you!
  7. I logged in as root, and during drag and dropping into my Shared folder it comes up as an error "Cannot create or replace ...." BUT if i copy the files directly to the disk, it will copy....did notice when i did that it added that movie to the network ? EDIT: just noticed under users i set guest as read only, and when this happens i can well read only but i logged in as root, not guest but it treats me like quest ? Thanks
  8. I love moments where all of a sudden it just worked..(sigh) Thanks!
  9. ok, i think i got what you meant by "may", or what he said, i was expecting it to be defined on its actions towards splitting them or not....then again i was in the Raid mentality. So when i open up the network i get the Flash, Disk 1 and Disk 2. I made a shared folder called MainBackup. I would like it when i place folders in MainBackup that it will automatically load the files where it can on Disk1 and 2 as it sees fit "i think that's what high water will do" ?
  10. These are what i have and if I'm on the W7 machine i see the XP machine but cannot access it (error)
  11. I have the XP machine hooked up (wired) but i cant get the unRaid server to pop up under networks. On my W7 laptop (wireless...but don't think it has anything to do with it) it shows up under network ?
  12. You have to understand that unRAID is not RAID. The files are not striped across more than one disk. A File is NEVER split between disks. The parity disk calculates the parity across all of the disks in the array. This allows it to reconstruct any single disk in the event that that disk has failed. (If you should ever have a more than one disk fail, you do not use all of your files with the unRAID scheme. You can still read all of the files that are on the good disks and recover them.) You should read this section of the 'Unofficial unRAID Manual': http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Un-Official_UnRAID_Manual#Shares In fact, you probably need to read the entire thing. It will answer many of your questions. Reading now. Ok so i went with this YouTube video (pretty good so far) and he mentions that there is something called "split level" where if i set it to 0 it will save ll the info on the same disk and if i set it to 2 then it will share them across all boards ?
  13. So i logged n from my laptop that's on the network and the user names was root with password, i added files onto the MainBackup file (in the img) and then i clicked on disk 1 and saw the same files as the files in MainBackup but when i clicked on disk 2 i saw nothing. Under "shares" i have MainBackup and the split level to 1,
  14. Looking at your screen capture called 'network.jpg', it appears that you have four shares available for browsing at this point: 'Backup', 'disk1', 'disk2' and 'flash'. (BTW, 'flash' is the flash drive with your unRAID software and settings on it.) If you click (or double click) on any of these shares, you will see a listing of directories (folders in Windows) and files that are stored there. I would guess that Backup, disk1 and disk2 are blank at this time. However, you can copy files to those shares; You can copy files from those shares; you can delete files from those shares; you can read the files after they are copied there. (You should most cautious about writing or deleting from the flash share. Use the other shares for any experiments until you know what you are doing!) Grab a file, drag it, and drop it on one of the shares (Backup, disk1, or disk2) and the file will be copied there. Just like you do with a 'drive' that shows up under 'Computer' in Windows. Hope this helps... Hi Frank, yes it help thank you. One thing about the drag and drop. if i drop a movie into one of the files say disk one will it only store in disk one or spread it out like raid usually does ? or is that what the user shares are for and if the user shares are for that then how does the drag and drop work (will it show all the drives ) BTW i followed this for setting up
