So I'm starting a new work and getting a new computer. I think I can finally park my old tower I've been using. I'm currently using it as a Plex Media Server and I also host some Dockers there ( Minecraft server for my daughters, temp work stuff and such ). It has a older but still pretty decent CPU and I did update the GPU at one point so it is not useless junk.
My Synology box is almost full and I have plenty of HDs lying around so I'm thinking I should just turn it into a Unraid server where I can run my Plex, Docker and have some more storage.
Hardware info for anyone interested:
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core
GPU: Radeon RX 580 Aorus 8GB
Mobo: MSI 970A-G46
Memory: 16 GB
Case: Antac P180 ( or something like that )
I also have 2 SSD's in it currently. One for the Windows install ( that I never use ) and the other my Linux OS. They are 250 GB and 480 GB. I guess I could use both as Cache drives. That should leave me with 4 extra SATA connections for the array. I do want to extend that even further in the future.
Would this, in your opinion, be a decent beginner Unraid server?
What type of drives should I add for my array, I got a few lying around, but they are max around 1 TB in size I think, at least I would get a bigger Parity drive.
