Solutions

  1. stignet's post in Crashes during parity checks was marked as the answer   
    Memtest identified issues with one of my sticks of RAM, have removed it and will see how things go with just the 16GB of good memory.
     
    Edit: Parity test running fine, up to 30% already, found and fixed some errors, system temps look great discs max 37degC. I think this issue is solved.
