  1. Important notice I read on the update notes:

    Quote

Due to the way in which Ubiquiti package and distribute their software our Unifi Controller container has reached a point where we cannot upgrade to newer supported packages without making breaking changes to the image.

As a result we have decided to deprecate our Unifi Controller container and replace it with a new Unifi Network Application container. This new container uses our current base images and a separate mongodb instance, which makes it substantially easier for us to maintain going forward.

We will continue to support our Unifi Controller image until 2024-01-01, at which point you will need to have migrated to the Unifi Network Application container to continue to receive support.

The new container is not a drop-in replacement and it is crucial that you read the entire Application Setup section of the readme before attempting to migrate an existing install

Those of you who have been using our mongoless tag for the Unifi Controller container can switch directly to the Unifi Network Application container without needing to perform any migration steps.

  2. Hi there,

I’ve been struggling with presumable hardware stability issues. I want to try removing/adding some hardware but everything the system freezes I have to do a hard shutdown, risking data integrity and having to re-check parity.

How would you advise me to do the test? I’ve thought about not starting the array but without docker containers and some load I don’t think the system will fail as often.

    thanks!

  3. So lets say I want to try some tweaks I've found online (updating the BIOS to a beta version that some people say improves stability, playing with the DRAM voltage and timmings, etc.). What would you guys recommend me so that I don't force my system to go through several parity checks if/when the system crashes?

  4. It might be worth to look again then. For reference the board is a Gigabyte Z87-UDH3. I'll write back if I find anything. Thanks!

Wow, it does seem like its a really common issue with Gigabyte motherboards and 4 RAM modules when you enable XMP:

Gigabyte Z87 mobos freeze when using 4 healthy sticks of RAM | tonymacx86.com

Z87 When will Gigabyte fix the 4 DIMM memory issue? (giga-byte.co.uk)

  5. I'm trying different things to see if stability improves. Currently running with 2 NICs (one for Docker and one for unraid), with bridging and bonding disabled as with this config it was stable for a month with 6.12.3.

However, I'm seeing some weird call traces on red on the logs. My Home Assistant VM just crashed and the GUI is not responding as fast as usual. Can you please take a look at the logs? It started at 18:02:21 with a "Sep 14 18:02:21 NAS kernel: kernel BUG at drivers/md/unraid.c:356!"

Edit: I can't run diagnostics because the process hangs at lsof -Pni 2</dev/null|todos >....

  6. Kept investigating. If I try a debian 11 or debian 12 VM neither of them will get an ip address. I believe it has to do wth disabling bridging on unraid's network settings to see if stability improved. However, my Home Assistant VM does get an ip (vhost0) despite bridging being disable. What's happening here?

  7. I tried changing network to ipvlan and disabling bonding and bridging as in 6.12.3 it was stable with this (though I used a second, USB NIC for Docker). It crashed again less than 24h later.

I've changed back to macvlan. I have reset the BIOS in case there was something miss configured.

I'm attaching the logs but I don't see anything relevant.

    Regards

  8. Last time it crashed I did't have syslog activated. It was on Saturday, after I installed two additional hard drives. Last time my shares also disappeared and my array didn't start so I opened this post: Help! No shares and array won't start - General Support - Unraid

    Regards

Edit: last time it crashed with docker and vms modules inactive.

If I insert my Power calculations into https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator I get a Load Wattage: 543 W

So. That means that my current PSU is not capable of running that kind of max power.

I currently have a Corsair RM550x 550 Watt 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular ATX PSU.

    Hmmm.

Take a look at your motherboard settings to find a way to limit the TDP of the CPU to 65W (disable one ccx and enable eco mode for example or look online). It will reduce performance but decrease power consumption by quite a bit, so you can stay bellow your PSU max wattage.

If you have a kill a watt or similar you can see what the system is actually pulling and see if you exceed 500W.

  10. I'm recently having this issue appear on the logs when I access the shares:

Sep  5 19:13:46 NAS nginx: 2023/09/05 19:13:46 [error] 12072#12072: *464713 open() "/usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.file.manager/javascript/ace/mode-log.js" failed (2: No such file or directory) while sending to client, client: 192.168.88.1 (my router ip), server: , request: "GET /plugins/dynamix.file.manager/javascript/ace/mode-log.js HTTP/1.1", host: "unraid ip address", referrer: "unraid ip address/Shares/Browse?dir=/mnt/user/logs"

    Any idea what's happening?

  11. You’re right. I powered the system off and started up again. It reported an unclean shutdown so I left it during a parity check of my old 3 drives.

I also started a pre clear on the two new drives in case they were bad.

I woke up and the server is not responding. No GUI, no SSH, so I had to power off manually again. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  12. Hello

I've just finished installing some new drives on my unRAID machine.

    1. First, I moved everything out of my cache drives and restarted. All ok.

    2. I installed 2 new ssds and 2 new hdds. I have changed some sata cables but AFAIK this is not a problem with unRAID.

I have started the machine and assigned the 2 ssds to the cache slots and one of the drives to the array. However, the array won't start and there are shares listed. Global Shares are set to enable.

    I'm attaching my diagnostics file.

Please help as I'm quite scared.
