  1. Unless you are having issues, I wouldn't go through the trouble. A wired connection can run fine with any additional overhead that samba might have.
  2. I've got a Biostar A760G M2+ board that has a Realtek 8111C built-in and when I try upgraded to RC9 from RC8 I no longer have network.
  3. Nope, for me that's not the problem. Because I can write to my shares (however files are now getting written with that user as owner which should not be happening, should be set to owner of nobody) and it is only certain files that I cannot overwrite/delete.
  4. It's an issue with the SAMBA version included with rc8a. See the rc8a announcement thread for more talk about it. There is a current workaround by manually installing a different version. It's in this thread where the discussion is: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=22604.0
  5. I've experienced the issue with deleting files through SAMBA and the problem has exhibited itself when I try to delete the file through both a user share and a disk share. Also, I'm able to delete when I telnet into my unraid box through /mnt/user/sharename/file However I noticed something strange... when I do that and then rewrite the file through SAMBA, the owner of the file (instead of being root or nobody, I forget which it is supposed to be offhand) that particular file will actually be set to the actual user I used to write the file as the owner.
  6. Not quiet fair to blame poor planning when the unraid wiki makes build recommendations with boards that have a realtech nic built in: budget build for example http://www.lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Compatibility#Recommended_Builds
  7. I just followed the upgrade method posted by limetech from 4.7 to 5.0RC4 and all went well.
  8. I'm going to move to unraid 5 when the final is released and want to install it clean without any addons. How do I uninstall this addon?
  9. You can make groups like this in XBMC but you have to manually edit some files. See the XBMC wiki. Hopefully the next version will add a GUI for this. Or you can install XWMM add-on and make movie sets by editing the movie db directly in a GUI now http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=60643
  10. As long as movie title and year are how the filename begins, that is all that is really needed for most scrapers to be pretty accurate. You can add anything after that part (source, cut of film, codec, etc.) for your own benefit and won't affect the accuracy of the scraper. All my movies are named very similar to how Johnm does his.
  11. Traffic between clients on the same LAN won't necessarily go through the router, so firewalling from the router won't be of help.
  12. So I'd like to export my shares to specific IPs in my network, however I've been unsuccessful in getting that to work. In the FAQ it mentions this is possible using syntax like: 192.168.1.10(ro),192.168.1.12(rw) I've only gotten NFS shares to export using *(ro) or *(rw) blasting it out to my entire network. Anyone using NFS exporting only to specific clients on the network successfully? I'm using 4.7 btw.
  13. I've done multiple drives at a time with no adverse affects.
  14. Directory/folder names CAN have spaces, it is just the share name itself where this bug presents itself. You don't have to rename all those folders. So it can easily be worked around.
  15. application specific passwords are a feature only when 2-step is enabled.
  16. I use 2-factor authentication on my account and just use an application specific password for my unraid box. It works fine.
  17. Might want to look into enabling 2-factor authentication http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/static.py?page=guide.cs&guide=1056283&topic=1056284
  18. I just ran into this exact same issue. I can get unmenu to load but not the normal unraid webgui.
  19. This is getting off-topic, but with smart playlists and some skins you can do exactly what you want. Correct me if I'm wrong - but with the smart playlist you in fact would have a copy of the movie in two places. Under movies and under the playlist you creat? Correct, but you could always disable the 'movies' section from showing on the homescreen in the skin settings and just add multiple smart-playlists named as you want. Also, have a look here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=89678

  21. Can unraid even address more than 4gig of RAM at the moment?
  22. Have a read through this thread for instructions how to: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3657.0
  23. Are you saying you only see half the shows when in file mode in xbmc OR did it only pick up half your shows when you tried scanning them into the xbmc library?
  24. Is it possible to telenet/putty into the unRaid box once you switch the USB sticks? No. Because if you are booting from a DOS usb stick, it won't have a SSH or telnet daemon running.
