  1. You mean, there IS an emulated one but it is not a real parity, just to keep it all running ? I did not know either btw, that unRAID can run without parity drives. (Why not, just did not know ...:).) Thanks y'all ! 😛 There's I dunno...a lot of data, don't wanna lose it ...obviously :).
  2. I'll add the 8TB, pre-clear it for sanity 😛. Stop array. Unassign 4TB parity. Start array - get an emulated parity. Stop array. Assign 8TB as parity. Let it build the parity on that. After all is done do the steps to make the old parity drive a data drive. Besides, as the manual says, it will remain a backup parity in the mean while. Correct ? 😛
  3. I'm overthinking it right ? Would explain me not finding guides :).
  4. Heya! Been checking a lot, asking a friend who uses unRAID etcetera. Am not entirely clear yet: I got a 4TB parity drive. Functioning well. I bought an 8TB drive to replace the parity drive and move the current 4TB parity drive to a data drive slot. I am a bit lost on what order is best. I think: 0: Do a parity check. 1: I should stop the array. 2: Unassign the current parity drive. ...guessing now: 3: start the array (not sure why) 4: Stop it again. 5: Power down. 6: Place the new 8TB drive in place of the current 4TB parity drive 7: pre-clear that one 8: stop the array 9: It says to unassign the parity drive (which one? the emulated one?) 10: Assign the 8TB as the parity drive 11: and then I am lost Truly been looking. Should be an easy step, either I did not search well enough or there is no clear guide step by step ? *shrug* ...after 11...and some steps perhaps, follow a guide or just add the old parity drive to the system (stop/power down) etc...and assign it as a data drive... Please let me know if I am wrong with the first 10 steps and which few steps needs to be done after 10 then .... I did read Parity Swap ... Thanks very much! /z
  5. it keeps running fine as vFAT, I'll leave it at that for now .....will mark this is a solution albeit a bit confusing (it isn't but having a too big a flash drive which then of course becomes vFAT by the flash tool and then backing that one up and using that again to flash a 16GB one and that one becoming vFAT also ....hm:)) Thanks guys!
  6. ah crap...so I can re-flash the same stick again ....? the tool made it vFAT *I assume* since the backup was a vFAT hm....how do I get in FAT32...format it and then what ....it is a 16GB flash drive....
  7. This happened after I did a simple find / ...etc command of the command line "terminal" prompt via the unRAID browser window, as root. Thereafter, after remounting the stick in rw mode it happened again and again, randomly .... I do not think the USB stick is the problem...nonetheless, went ahead, got me 2 16GB Verbatim sticks (strange, yet logical how hard it can be to find smaller USB sticks on like amazon :p ...these have a metal housing...*shrug*) Now, I used the tool of unRAID and restore from zip file etc...: it is a vFAT again .....should be FAT32 or meh ? ...no clue on this part..what it -should- or better: has to be ... Say it fails again, a 2nd key restore cannot be done automatically can it ? (e.g.: longer downtime on the server) edit: wanted to use a card reader(/writer...) as my flash drive but Unraid.USB.Creator.Win32-2.1 does not see it as a flash drive ....bugger....
  8. Thank you....so >32gigabyte can be used without any problem.... Odd ? In the syslog before the reboot, when my USB drive went -somewhere- in read-only mode ...nothing is mention in the syslog file.... Would love to know what caused it....odd one.... I'll close this thread, if it happens again I'll jump to that problem only ....might be more wise :). - crap I cannot...would have to select a reply as a solution which is not there ! :))) - Thank you.
  9. Sorry, one more question .....64GB is out of the question ? (It did run good for ~90 days or so....hm) (Can't the software (needs to be coded then...) use 32GB of the flash drive?) If so I think I'll order 2 or 3 x a 32GB Samsung BAR Plus (I don't know of any other recommended metal ones .... Yes..these are fast .... :\) All I have now is that plastic housing Sandisk in 32GB :). Thanks for your time!
  10. There is not really a solution here...but will mark it as resolved....will try and find the first error regarding this .... It is an OLD PC but it also has the famous 2600K in it
  11. Ah alike Linux ? Kinda ? Not sure on that. But odd, it's a brand spanking new Samsung BAR Plus .... Should have checked the log files before rebooting...perhaps they're still there in a cycle (again, alike Linux ? :)) (say syslog.1.gz ..etc) I did not know that ....max 32gig in size (VFAT perhaps ? still...it can make a 32gig partition then..). Hm bummer...and the one that is 32gig is the only non metal one !@# :\ Been looking for full metal small ones ...and bigger sticks....only did not consider a slower speed .....clever nonetheless.. I got an 80GB Intel SSD ..very very old one ...single cell I believe and it stilll runs without any problem... Think I got an OLD Kingston Datatraveler still..those full metal ones ? that might be my best option and just keep whatever I have at hand ...does 1 break use one of those and look for the best replacement online (those Samsung BAR Plus's are fast though :\) Thank you guys !
  12. Hello ! Got a pretty new unRAID install (max 2 months?) ... Anyway all the sudden got a warning that it was read only (and yes, checking the mounted disks from the prompt it had the "ro" flag) ...did a reboot and it is back to read/write ... root@ServerName:~# mount | grep sda /dev/sda1 on /boot type vfat (rw,noatime,nodiratime,fmask=0177,dmask=0077,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,flush,errors=remount-ro) root@ServerName:~# after the reboot... USB stick used is a brand new Samsung BAR Plus. I have made a backup of the drive. Did just order 3 new USB sticks from Amazon Samsung Bar Plus 128GB Type-A 400MB/s USB 3.1 - we all know this one now Sandisk SDCZ48-032G-U46 Ultra , Usb 3.0 Flash Drive, 32Gb, 130Mb/S - had 2 of these for a long time, not in a server though :p Kingston DataTraveler Kyson USB 3.2 Flash Drive 64GB - Gen 1 (metal housing) (The BAR seems the go-to but well...I am using one ....hmm :)) The other 2 were cheap so thought heck why not, keep a few as backup... What puzzles me is that it went to read-only ....rw after reboot.... Wonder if the flash drive is faulty at all .... (Cannot find the old Kingston Datatraveler anymore, full metal housing...got one but it is -old- :)) Thank you for your time!
