Hello. I recently upgraded a machine running ubuntu to 18.04 LTS and have had issues copying files from it to unraid v5.0.5. Sometimes files fail to copy over completely. I've noticed tons of these messages on ubuntu when looking at dmesg during the times when files fail to completely copy over. [67118.354289] CIFS VFS: Free previous auth_key.response = 0000000031186743 [67118.505856] CIFS VFS: Error -32 sending data on socket to server I've mounted the unraid shares with smb. In my /etc/fstab entries I've used 'vers=2.0' for them. So I'm wondering. Am I using the correct mount version?

jbm715 started following ESXi 5.1 Unraid Tower build for storage and routing and Container Networking Possibility
-
I currently have an ESXi host with 3 guest VMs: Unraid 5.0, a plex VM, and a 'download all the things' VM with docker containers. I want to get away from ESXi and move to a bare metal install of Unraid 6 and migrate all the containers. What I want is: unraid host with say ip 10.4.0.8 plex container using the default bridged network nginx reverse proxy with it's own ip using macvlan with vlan id 5 and ip 10.4.1.8 nzbget, sonarr, etc reverse proxied by nginx and using it's net mode My firewall currently already handles multiple tagged and untagged vlans on a trunk from the ESXi box so I'm good from that standpoint. My question is: Is this a doable with unraid? I imagine I can't do some of the networking view the UI which is fine as I'm used to dealing with the docker cli.

Update here: Unraid, as stated, used the last assigned drive. Currently in the process of pre-clearing the old parity drive before I add it to the array.
-
Thank you both for the replies! Good idea to run a pre-clear on it outside of the array so I can go ahead and start the array when the parity sync is done.
-
I am in the process of upgrading my parity from a 3 TB to a 4 TB drive. I followed the 7 steps listed here http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31681.msg287891#msg287891 to do so. I want to re-use the old 3TB drive once the parity sync is finished. My concern is that once I shutdown unraid, re-install the 3TB drive, and boot up, unraid will not know which parity drive to use as both will have valid data since I have not written anything to the drives. Is there something else I need to do, or will unraid choose to use the parity drive based on the serial number that was last active? Running 5.0.5 right now.

I have a Ubuntu server 12.04 vm that has three mounted shares. Every couple of days, these shares will randomly be unmounted. I remount them just fine. Has anyone else experience an issue like this? It has gotten to the point where I created a cron job that does a 'sudo mount -a' every 30 minutes to ensure that this doesn't cause any issues. Is there a better way to go about this? If this isn't the correct forum (maybe an ubuntu specific issue) then I will gladly move it.

Unraid version: 5.0-rc12a (Pro) So I started using unraid about a month ago. It's been great, but I don't think I have a complete understanding of linux and samba permissions. From what I do know, linux permissions trump samba unless samba permission are more restrictive. What I believe I am not getting is how permissions are translated between the server and client. My setup: -Unraid with users james, aaron, downloader, htpc, pmc, etc each with various read/write permissions (as set in the UI) to shares 'music', 'tv_shows', 'movies' -I have an ubuntu server (v12.04) vm running sabnzbd, sickbeard, couchpotato, headphones, and deluge. These services run locally as 'download_user'. The folder which files are downloaded to has ownership of 'download_user:download_user' and permissions '777' In my /etc/fstab I have lines in this format for those 3 shares above: //tower/movies /media/movies cifs credentials=/home/download_user/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 0 0 -I have another ubuntu server vm running subsonic as root (which was needed to stream music using ssl). It's fstab has the exact same format for the 'music' mount. as above. If I try to edit id3 tags through Subsonic, there are write permissions issues. Today I took a look at actual permissions via shell on the unraid vm. ALL files and folders I took a look at were owned by group 'users'. The main owner however was different depending on the particular file. I saw many files owned by 'nobody', 'james', and 'downloader'. My question is: What linux mount permissions/options and download directory permissions need to be set to allow non-root-running services to rename, set permissions, etc? Also, should files moved to the unraid array all be owned by nobody:users so as to not cause issues with the samba permissions? I've taken a look at the man pages for mount as well as done some research around this topic, but I am still a bit confused.

ESXi 5.1 Unraid Tower build for storage and routing
jbm715 replied to jbm715's topic in Unraid Compulsive Design
I looked into pfSense but I liked the idea of creating my own firewall for the experience. Yea I have two different VMs. Because subsonic will be facing the world, I wanted to lock down the entire vm. -
This build is based heavily (and I mean heavily) on Rajahal's 20 tower beast prototype. I did a lot of research prior to finding the prototypes and the specs were essentially what I wanted. Also thanks to Johnm for the amazingly simple to follow tutorial on getting ESXi and Unraid up and running. OS at time of building: unRAID 5rc12 Pro CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 Sandy 3.2GHz (Newegg) Motherboard: SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM-F-O (Newegg) RAM: 16GB 2x8GB Kingston ECC Unbuffered 1333 KVR1333D3E9SK2/16G (Newegg) Case: Antec Twelve Hundred V3 (Newegg) Drive Cage(s): 2x NORCO SS-500 (Newegg) Drive Cage Fan(s): 2x Coolink SWiF2 800 80mm (QuietPCUSA) Power Supply: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold (Newegg) SATA Expansion Card(s): 1x IBM ServeRAID M1015 LSI SAS9220-8i (Ebay Search) Cables: 1x SATA, 2x Monoprice 0.5m Forward Breakout Cable (Amazon) Fans: All stock fans Parity Drive: 3TB WD Red Data Drives: 2x 3TB WD Red, 1x 2TB Seagate, 2x WD 2TB Green Cache Drive: 1TB WD Black Datastore Drive: 1TB WD Green Total Current Drive Capacity: 10 Total Upon Completion Drive Capacity: 20 Flash Drives: 2x Lexar FireFly 4 GB JDFF4GBASBNA (unraid and esxi) Virtual Machines: Unraid, Download Server (Ubuntu Server 12.04.2LTS), Router/Firewall (CentOS 6.4), Subsonic (Ubuntu Server 12.04.2LTS) Primary Use: Data storage, media streaming to HTPC, Router/DHCP/DNS Server, OpenVPN Client, toy for me to delve deeper into *nix Likes: Very quiet, runs cool, impresses friends Dislikes: Having to spend $80 x2 on two more hdd cages compared to a Norco 4220. Bending back the tabs of the Antec 1200 was a bi...pain. Add Ons Used: preclear, unMenu, cache_dirs, Simple Features Future Plans: Create a simple static webpage to allow anyone to easily find sab, sickbeard, couchpotato, headphones, subsonic on the LAN (because port numbers are hard ) Install 2x Norco SS-500 cages and 3x Forward Breakout Cables. Setup port forwarding with iptables to route external traffic to Subsonic VM. Setup VM for Rails development Setup VM for quarantined internetz Setup UPS plugin Picture: More to come Imgur Reasons for not using Unraid sabnzbd, sickbeard, couchpotato plugins. I wanted to mitigate any factor that could affect unraid. With the plugins not officially supported, I'd hate to run into an issue where any plugin causes the unraid array to go down. I love the idea of Influencer ensuring that specific plugins always work, but later down the line that might not be the case. Using a VM for the different apps also forced me to get a better understanding of samba shares especially in relation to permissions. Permissions are a friend to nobody . I do have some plugins installed like unMenu and Simple Features but I think I will remove them. They are REALLY useful though! Why a tower instead of a 4U case? It would've been cheaper in the end going with Norco 4U case because you don't need to buy hdd cages. My thought was that this server is my first unraid/server build. I want it to be quiet and sit it close to the TV. For me, it'd be hard to find a suitable place to put one of those cases. The Antec is just super tall allowing me to squeeze it into smaller places. Why use the build as a router? A couple of months ago I purchased access to a VPN. Initially I tried setting up the vpn on my Asus 520gl router running Tomato. It worked but bottlenecked my down speed because of all the encryption/decryption the router was forced to do. Encryption/decryption is not an issue with the Xeon 1230 . Issues faced in build process (hardware and software). Fitting the cages in the case. It took me 4 hours to bend all the metal tabs. I bought a 8" C-clamp (Harbor Freight Tools) for $6 and followed this thread to fix. ESXi did not recognize the second network card. I had to install a custom driver for it to be recognized. Initially I tried using steps from this thread, but it didn't work for me. I could be an idiot, idk. I ended up following this tutorial which worked flawlessly. Thoughts about the build in general as of this post. I wanted to create a server that could perform all my streaming needs, act as a router, and allow me to play around with virtual machines. This build is that. It took me many, many, many hours to get everything setup. Sure I've installed sabnzbd a billion times, but setting up all the Virtual Machines especially the router/firewall one took a long time. My issue was that I have only been vaguely familiar with linux, permissions, and networking. If you're looking to get an understanding of networking and the routing of packets, make this build.

I have two ss-500s with 8 drives. Each case has a SWiF 800 (not 801) fan for lower decibels. First cage left to right: wd 3tb red, wd 1tb black, 3tb red, 3tb red, wd 2tb green Second cage: wd 1tb datastore, blank, wd 2tb green, wd 2tb green, blank The greens dont get above 38C, reds 43C, black 46C. That includes preclear and parity checks. All the drives usually are between 32C-41C depending on usage. Anything above 44C makes me nervous. In your situation seeing > 60C, I'd stop using the computer until you can figure out a better cooling solution. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2

Wow y'all. Thank you for all the replies! I went ahead and bought the Seasonic 650. I'm also glad that it is modular. I'm horrible at cable management so that definitely helps. I went ahead and breadboarded everything to make sure the cpu/mobo and hdds weren't DOA. That Norco SS 500 cage sounds like a small plane. Definitely going to buy replacement fans for it. Again, thanks for the help! I went with that particular CPU because there was a combo deal with the mobo on newegg

You are right. My attention to detail failed me there . I have a spare 950W 80plus bronze laying around, but I think that is too much for being always on. I might breadboard my setup without any drives then start adding Western Digital Reds, checking the pull with a kill-o-watt. Estimate how many 20 reds would be. Thanks for the reply!

I am looking at building a tower with up to 20 hard drives. It is heavily based upon a build at Greenleaf Technology. Build so far: Case : Antec 1200 HDD Cages: NORCO SS-500 5-Bay x2 (for now) Motherboard : SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM-F-O CPU : Intel Xeon 1230 Sandy Bridge 3.2GHz RAM : Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 ECC Controller: IBM m1015 x1 (for now) Parity: WD Red 3tb Cache: WD Black 1tb Data: 2x WD Red 3tb, 2x WD Green 2tb (already owned), 1x Seagate 2tb (already owned) The build recommended a 650W PSU; however, I have a feeling that recommendation didn't take into account using virtual machines. I'd like to use the VirtualBox plugin to run a number of VMs for a Counter Strike GO server, minecraft server, backup sabnzbd, sickbeard, couchpotato vm in case of issues with plugins. Would a 650W PSU suffice or should I look to getting a beefier one? I should probably up the memory too now that I think about it.
