  1. I may be confused. Does Unraid V6 count the bootable flash drive (with the OS on it) as one of the devices in the trial key device limitation?
  2. I searched around and did not find an answer to my question. I just installed Version 6 (the latest version) and tried getting my trial key. I made sure my time and date were correct (they are) and got a key link, which I pasted into the appropriate field. It responded immediately that my trial key was expired and will not let me renew because the system states that it is NOT expired. The dashboard states that I have too many devices connected, but I only have my bootable flash drive, parity drive, and two data drives installed, so not sure what the configuration error means. Any help is appreciated. Greg tower-diagnostics-20150816-1504.zip
  3. Got it! Thanks for all the explanations fellas. I appreciate your help.
  4. Sorry, I guess I am not being clear. Why didnt the file copy to the disk2 instead of disk1? I figured it would span the file over to disk2 given that the disk2 is empty.
  5. So I set my Movies share to Split Level 2, Highwater, and include disk1,disk2. So, when I copy a new movie to the Movies share, it should span both disks, or just one disk? I ask because I copied a 18 gb movie to the Movies share after setting these share parameters and it only copied to disk1. Disk 2 is completely empty and I would like the server to start allocating files to that space. Sorry for the noobness of all this.
  6. Sweet, thanks for the awesome guide. Will consider it and figure out how to best set it up!
  7. Thanks for the help Wombat. I have one other question. If I want the TV Shows to be on the second disk, should I move them using MC to the second disk and then make that share split level 3?
  8. Should I try to change this? If I should, what is the best method?
  9. I have two drives installed in my server (no parity yet). Disk 1 is a 3tb drive to which I copied all my data. I then added disk 2 which is a tb drive. After I copied my data I went in and set allocation split level to 2 for all the shares on Disk 1 (Movies, Music, etc.) Will unRAID start spreading the filed on Disk 1 throughout both disks in the array? Did I do this generally correctly? Sorry for the noobish question, still trying to figure this all out. Greg
  10. That is really good advice. I will setup my new unRAID server with the new 3tb drive, preclear it and then start looking for a deal on another 3tb drive. I will wait to copy my data over and use the time to get familiar with unRAID and install any addons I think I will need. Thanks for the help!
  11. So I finally have all the parts to build my first unRAID server. I have read quite a bit about the install process and the hardware requirements. Here is my current situation: I have three drives, all of which are in external enclosures (I plan to remove them and use them in my server). 1 drive is a new 3TB 1 drive is a currently in use 2TB drive 1 drive is a currently in use 1TB drive. I need to keep the data on my 2TB drive to transfer to the unRAID server so my plan is to copy all that data to the new 3TB drive, remove the 2TB drive and 1 TB drives from their enclosures and install them into the server. I will preclear those drives, assign them as data drives, then copy all the data that is now on the 3TB drive to the server. After that is done I will remove the 3TB drive from its enclosure and install it into the server, preclear it, and assign it as the parity drive. I know this is a convoluted way to get my server up and running, but I am trying to use the drives I currently have on hand. Does this sound like a workable plan?
  12. Thanks for all that work and the explanation! I think I will probably bail on this deal and wait for something else more well received by the unRAID community. Thanks for all your help though.
  13. Sounds iffy. I knew boards from this manufacturer were touchy with unRAID, so maybe I will hold off and look around for another deal on other boards, unless I hear otherwise Thanks for your help!
  14. I am starting to gather parts for a new unRAID server. I recognize that there are higher end mother boards out there, but I am looking to keep on a tight budget. Can anyone tell me whether this board will work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=IpW9fJ1aEeKdq9ZjVhxZEgO5Z5_8IoV3_0_0_0&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16813128581&cm_sp= Looks like it is $38 bux with the rebate, which is attractive for my budget Thanks in advance.
