Solutions

  1. danomite's post in /mnt/user/ is gone and so are Shares - r/sync error - Transport endpoint is not connected was marked as the answer   
    So apparently, I freaked out for nothing. I just spent time rebooting (over and over and over) and mounting the array a bunch of times. Not sure what I did to cause the problem or fix it, but it seems to be resolved for the moment. All my shares are present, and mover is functioning as it should be.
