Solutions

  1. sliceofbytes's post in 6.11.5 Black Screen on Boot to GUI was marked as the answer   
    I resolved this with the help of a user on Discord, something I had added to the boot config "nomodeset" to try and fix it, was now somehow causing the problem.
     
    Not sure what the original issue was but either way I get the GUI.
