Solutions

  1. islandrob's post in Cannot access GUI or SSH, but can access shares was marked as the answer   
    So, to update I found out I could access the GUI and ssh from a windows PC, but not from my macbook.  Turns out wireguard was automatically connecting to unraid when it booted. Strangley I couldn't access the webui, but as soon as I turned off wireguard I was able to connect.
