  1. Thanks for your replies. They highlight the widely opposing experiences mac users have with Unraid. From my own experience and after wading through numerous comments from the past several years I have come to the conclusion that: Unnraid works for some and not for others. There is no guarantee that the time you put into setting it up will pay off. I have tried various smb configurations and mac tweaks from the forums that improved the transfer rate and freezing issues a little but caused weird behaviour when renaming files. After over a month of Unraid tinkering and googling, I've moved on to using Windows 10 with drivepool as my file server. I can now transfer files at high speeds from both Mac and Windows machines, It was very easy to set up and I didn't have to spend precious time learning a new operating system. I really wanted Unraid to work with my setup but I can't afford to waste any more time on it.
  2. Sorry if I was unclear Sir. No I am not running Unraid on my Mac. I have a separate computer which is running Unraid from a flash drive. On my Windows PC I can access, copy or move files to and from the Unraid server without problems. On the other hand my Mac computers freeze or become extremely slow when trying to access, copy or move files to and from the Unraid server. I think you may have missed the fact that this has been an ongoing issue that has remained unresolved for years. I think I missed the numerous threads from other people having the same issues I am now having.
  3. Hi. I bought Unraid because i wanted to access and backup my files on both Mac and PC without getting file corruption issues caused by reading and writing to NTFS drives on my Mac using Paragon NTFS. During the trial period I copied my files to Unraid using my windows machine which went well. I briefly tested copying files to Unraid on my Mac which was slow. I thought this may be caused by the Paragon NTFS conversion process and would be solved after copying all my files on to Unraid on Windows and accessing them on my Mac without Paragon NTFS. Also I didn;t want to risk further file corruption when using Paragon NTFS. After the 30 day trial ended and I had copied my files I am now finding Unraid to be unusable on my Mac. It freezes my Monterey system and I have to pull the power plug to restart. I was under the impression that Unraid was compatible with both Windows and Mac but have found this to not be the case. I have tried to get help on the forums but have not yet received a solution. For me $129 is a lot of money to pay for a product that is useless to me and doesn't work as advertised.
  4. Hi folks, Can't uninstall the Macinabox VM. When I select remove VM & disks it just stays on a spinning wheel. Can someone kindly advise me on how to remove it please ?
  5. Thanks i'll back up the smb-extra.conf file first
  6. I already have that setting enabled. The post shows additional parameters that can be entered somewhere but does not say where or how to enter them. Do you know?
  7. Apparently the problems of frozen operating system and extremely slow file and folder sharing between Mac and Unraid machines is caused by incompatibilities between the Unraid SMB protocol and the Apple SMB protocol used for file operations. I have heard that I need to enable the vfs_fruit module by addingto my samba extra config under Settings>SMB>SMB Extras However I am not sure how to format the text in order to achieve this . Do you know?
  8. I started in safe mode. Now I can't write to the shares due to permissions. I tried both root and user. I just looked at the syslog file. I don't know what it means but it says something about: "docker 0 port 1 (**********) entered blocking state Oct 9 18:37:34 Tower kernel: docker0: port 1(**********) entered disabled state." None of the dockers are set to auto start so I don't know what it.
  9. Thanks. Here are the files. I tried to copy files to a share but it says I don't have permissions. tower-diagnostics-20231009-1835.zip tower-diagnostics-20231009-1835.zip
  10. Removed tailscale and the system locks up when copying files and accessing the server
  11. Just paid $129 for a product a can't use. Can someone please help?
  12. When I try to open a folder on my Mac, I get spinning beachball. Not sure if it is due to tailscale or permissions ? I am a new user And would be grateful for advice. Thanks
  13. Thanks. I tried that but there are no actions available for the mover
  14. Hi, I'm a new user. Following advice from an older thread, I set up my appdata, domains, isos, and system shares to primary>cache and secondary>array. I then learned that these settings are wrong and I need to set them to cache only and exclusive. However I cannot see how to do this. The 'fix common problems' plugin says 'Share system set to cache-only, but files / folders exist on the array. You should change the shares settings appropriately or use the dolphin / krusader docker applications to move the offending files accordingly. ' I have no knowledge of using docker. Can someone please help? Thanks tower-diagnostics-20230917-1235.zip
  15. Thanks again. Do I need to reset before removing the old disks or doesn't it matter?
  16. Thanks. So do I have to remove the old drives in Unraid or can I just shutdown the computer and replace the drives?
  17. Hi I created an empty array just for learning purposes with 2 x 1tb data drives and 1 x 1TB parity drive. How do I replace these with 3 x 14TB drives
  18. Hi Thanks for the info. I am learning how to set up an array for the first time using old disks and an old PC. I am confused about the order of operations. Does the preclearing need to be done before adding disks to the array? So would preclearing be a waste of time as formatting would negate the preclearing? From my understanding this wipes all data and is a good way to check if the disks are ok. Do I need to preclear disks before or after formatting? Do I format the disks after adding them to the array and would this negate the preclear process Thanks
  19. Hi I am Trialing Unraid. I precleared 2 1TB HDD disks and added them to the array. I then did the tests which came up positive. They are showing up as Unmountable: Unsupported partition layout. I have followed other threads regarding this issue and none of the solutions have worked. The official instructions say 1. Stop the array and unassign the devices. 2 restart the array but the start button is greyed out. Can someone please advice me on how to fix the issue? Thanks tower-diagnostics-20230902-1533.zip
