  1. I remember when I was trying to install unraid on a USB drive I had to try a couple of different drives before I found one that UnRaid would let me use. I used Unraid for a few weeks before I decided to buy it. They sent me instructions on how to upload the key and when I used those instructions is when I got the error. I figured I had done something wrong and tried it again and it would not let me use the key again. Either way, I emailed support and they sent me different instructions on how to install the key. The new instructions worked fine. I just had to restart the server for it to show up as registered. I dont know. Im not sure what the difference is. They did fix it for me though.

  3. I figured...thx
  4. So I got my server all set up and decided to register Unraid today. It was nice to get it on sale too. Either way, when I installed activation code I got and error. I went back to do it again and get an invalid USB GUID...I sent an email to support. Is that my only option? Or can I get help here? thx, Tracy
  5. Here's the thing...I gotta keep it simple. 9 times out of ten, the only thing streaming is a movie from that stupid hallmark channel. On occasion, I might go to the man cave and watch a movie while the wife watches love stories. I have to weigh whether it is worth spending night after night figuring something out for just a little gain. I do know this for sure. I have had a plex pass for 3 or 4 years and we have never streamed outside the house. I have an R710 that I use for Plex now but it is the 2.5 inch drive version which I dont like. I have so many movies that I have at least 6 USB drives plugged into it and the 8 drive bays full. I now have this 8 bay R510 with unraid, which I really like unraid btw, my goal is to fill it up with 12 Tb drives. I was running 2 streams on it tonight and the CPU and memory were barely moving off of zero percent. I did a lot of reading in this thread but at my age I would die before I got done with 144 pages. I'm not like most of you guys I have to stop and think about each post...alot! Your talking to a C64 guy....lol. I might try messing around with it but I sure hate to screw up something that is working so well right now...
  6. Thx....that was more or less what I was thinking I just needed someone with more experience to verify for me. We may have 2 to 3 streams max and we never stream outside the house. My kids are all grown and they can pay for their own stuff!
  7. Hello, I really was not sure where to post this but it looks like a good place. I have just installed unRaid on a Dell R510. It has 128Gb ram and plex official installed in a docker. It also has an Nvidia P400. My question is this: I was wondering if the install procedure at the beginning of this thread was still valid. Also, is it actually worth it to go to HW transcoding? I plan on using this server for nothing but Plex... thx guys...

Thanks to both of you guys for the responses. I did see that it has a 30 day plus two 15 day trials. I think Im gonna give it a shot.

I have heard good stuff about unraid. I currently run Plex from my Dell R710 server in IT mode using a LSI controller card and Windows 10 . I was wondering what advantages that Unraid would give me over using a standard raid controller in a raid 1-0 configuration. Im fixing to use a newly acquired Dell R510 w/H200, X5670 processors, 128Gb ram, and 8 10Tb hds. I will also be using a Quadro P400 for transcoding. I was trying to get a good idea of what UnRaid offered before I spend the 80 dollars. thx, Tracy
