  1. Thank you for the information. I will try a 6 TB as a new parity when I upgrade as suggested. Have a great day. Jim S.
  2. Hello all, I am currently using the following motherboard in my 3 year old unraid setup: SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O Xeon X3400 / L3400 / Core i3 series Dual LAN Micro ATX Server Board w/ Remote Management I am running unraid 5.0.5. I am interested in upgrading my drives to the new larger sized drives starting with my parity drive. I currently have 1 parity and 5 data drives. All drives are 2 TB in size. Does anyone know what size drives this motherboard will support. I have not updated the bios since board was purchased. Any information is greatly appreciated. Take care, Jim S.
  3. Hello, Sounds like a boot device selection in BIOS issue to me. You might want to verify that your USB stick is still selected as the boot device. Take care, Jim S.
  4. hi, You can use the included midnight commander. Do a search for more info. Hope this helps, Jim S.
  5. Hello, Saw 1461 current pending sectors. That is not a good sign. Might be time for a RMA. Have a good one, Jim S.
  6. Hello, Did you per clear the drive before adding to array? If not that would probably explain the long wait. Jim S.
  7. Hello, I believe the disk assignment letters can and do change on reboots. It depends on the order that the drives are detected during bootup. You will need to figure out the correct drive assignment to perform the smart check on the problem disk drive. Hope this helps. Jim S.
  8. Hello, Sorry for your trouble. Even though the smart was passed check out the reallocated sector counts. I think that drive is about done. Take care, Jim S.
  9. Hello, Have you checked the flash drive's integrity? Might have some corruption after the accidental power loss. Take care, Jim S.
  10. Hello, I did not see what network card you were using on your unRaid server. When I first built mine I had similar issues.. Swapped to an intel nic and those issues went away. That was almost a year ago. I also use a static ip address for my unRaid server and it's always where I expect it to be. I pretty much keep all my main computers at static addresses. Good luck, Jim S.
  11. Hello, Sorry to hear about your problems. I have manually modified the flash\config\network.cfg file before to fix an ip address issue. I just made sure to backup the file, shutdown unRaid server, and then put the flash drive in a windows pc and modify the config file. This has worked for me. It's also a good ideal to backup the entire flash drive contents once you get everything working. Take care, Jim S.
  12. Hello, Sorry to hear of your problems. Hope you get it sorted. I looked at the smart report you posted and even though it passed it did list 60 current pending sectors. I think that the drive is having some issues. Maybe do a search about sector reallocation on this board. Lots of great advice on here. Take care, Jim S.
  13. Sorry to hear your troubles, You should try using windows again to setup your unRaid flash drive. The procedure posted on the website works as written. If that does not work for you then I believe there is another issue. Setting up the flash per the procedure should take just a few minutes. I have setup up two using windows 7 and followed procedure step by step and both worked fine. Check that bios setup again just to make sure. Maybe post some screen shots of bios setup screens associated with boot device selection and boot priority. Good luck, Jim S.
  14. Kizer, I do the same with all my network gear. It's nice knowing the ip address is always the same. Have a good one, Jim S.
  15. Hello, I have done the same thing before. I have found that once you have your system working the way you want it's a good ideal to back up your unRaid flash to a safe place. This at least allows an easy way to get back to a working system if you make a config mistake. Take care, Jim S.
  16. Hello, Sorry to hear about the errors. Did you get a smart report on that drive yet. Might be a good first step. Take care, Jim S.
  17. Hello, Sorry to hear about all the trouble you are having. I can tell you that I began researching unRaid last summer by reading the forums for about 3 months before deciding that this is the system I wanted to try. I am using it to serve up about 1000 movies and for file backups. I used a configuration I found from one of the users and when I got home last fall I ordered it all. I have built a few computers in my time so that part was easy. I bought the pro license and the two key option. Spent 3 months ripping movie collection and storing on unRaid without parity drive. After all data burned added parity drive and it's been running smooth since then. The only issues I have seen have been a buggy on board LAN connection that caused me some headaches until I intalled an intel nic that solved some very strange issues for little cost and little time. The other issue was when I had reused a sata cable that was flaky. Replaced it and all is well. Whenever I have had questions this board has always helped either by step by step directions or by searching for related issues from other members. I work away from home the entire summer every year so this system has to work without fail for the wife. I remotely monitor the system to keep an eye on drive status and monthly parity checks. System consists of 6 seagate 2 tb drives. Pre clear times are 24 hrs each. Monthly parity checks are about 5.5 hours. I keep the second USB key ready with an exact copy of the original and I tested it before leaving home and showed wife how to swap. Also have a spare seagate drive that is pre cleared standing by. I realize this info might not help you but I wanted to show you that the system does work and that it can run unattended for months with high reliability. Having it hooked to a solid UPS is also a must. I know that at home we have had 23 power blips since I left. I will not get to see or use my system for another month. Wife uses it every day for streaming movies to tv and iPad. I am using 4.7 by the way but started with an earlier version and upgrade before leaving home in June. Speeds have always been high. Could stream to tv and watch movies on two iPads at same time. I know that for the money spent this is the best way to finally make my movie library available to all in the house and even to me while away from home. Don't give up yet. I can get you a list of the hardware I used if it would help. Have a good one, Jim S.
  18. Hello, I can answer one of your questions. The key is tied to the GUID number of the USB stick you use to install unRaid onto. The unRaid webpage explains that in detail as far as how to install unRaid and how to establish the liscense. This means that as long as you continue to use the USB stick with the license key you will not have to get a new license if you wanted to do a fresh install in the future. I bought the two license pack so I always have a backup USB key with active license. These keys do go bad sometimes. I suggest keeping a backup of the USB contents on a separate drive after you have your system working the way you want. After I got mine setup the way I needed I also mirrored the second USB key and then did a test boot with it. After that I put it in a safe place. That way when the wife calls one day and says the system will not boot I can walk her through a key swap. Hope this helps some, Jim S.
  19. Hello pengrus and oddwunn, I have the same board as you do pengrus and I only use a static ip. I too had to install an intel nic due to strange on board LAN issues. Ever since installing intel nic I've had no issues. I believe I had to edit a config file to get the static ip address but cannot remember which one. I am away from my server for the next few weeks so I can't look. Sorry. Just to let you know that getting a static ip to work with this motherboard is doable. Take care and good luck, Jim S.
  20. Hello, More info is needed before this board can assist. Post syslog, and hardware breakdown. See stickies on how to capture syslog. Take care, Jim S.
  21. Hello, Don't know about replacing soon or not but the fact that it has 15 sectors pending reallocation is notice to keep a very close eye on this drive. If that number continues to increase I would replace. Just my opinion. Take care, Jim S.
  22. Hello, Sorry to hear about your problems. I believe Joe was saying to stop unRaid, shutdown server, pull flash drive and then use a windows pc to run check disk or scan disk on the flash drive. It might be corrupt or have bad blocks or both.. Hope you get it sorted. Take care, Jim S.
  23. Hello, Sorry to hear about the crashing problems. I am pretty new at this but I can answer number 2. During the boot up process memtest is a selectable option. This can be seen only at the local screen during boot up. If you watch the boot up you see two options, one is start unRaid and the other memtest. Select memtest. This will run until you stop it. Most people suggest running it over night. Your unRaid server will be off line during this test. Hope that helps, Jim S.
  24. Hello, The board needs more info in order to assist you. Post a current syslog and hardware breakdown. Have a good one, Jim S.
  25. Hello, That's what I did. Left out parity drive while I transferred all data to server. Much quicker that way. I did make sure to pre clear all drives first with Joe's script. Also made sure to keep original data available until parity in service just in case. Have a good one, Jim
