  1. I had a 2TB array drive fail (it was a bit of a slow death with errors and then completely failed just before I added a replacement drive).

I've precleared a 3TB drive (no errors or issues) and then just followed the instructions to replace the failed drive.  It all seemed fine and started the data rebuild but after only a few minutes the new drive showed up as failed too.  I havent physically disconnected the old drive, I'm using different SATA and power socket/cables.

I've now stopped the array.  The new drive appears in the list of drives...

    But if I select it, it does this;

    Diagnostics attached, help appreciated!

1266 pending failed sectors. Based on that, I'd say take it out of the array.  You can try running several preclears on it to see if the pending failed sectors are corrected, but I wouldn't trust the drive anymore.

Thanks.  I'll give the pre-clear a go but will probably just scrap it.

  3.

I have a drive that has started generating errors on the UNRAID dashboard (accomapined by a noticable lag if its a video playing and is presumably being rebuilt on the fly).

I've ordered a new drive to replace this one, is there any thing I can do to re-use this drive in my array or is it time to scrap it?

  4. Once the parity drive has been reported as faulty it will not get reset yo good until you have successfully rebuilt parity.

The steps to achieve this are:

    • Stop array and Unassign Parity disk
    • Start array with parity disk unassigned.  This makes unRAID 'forget' the current parity disk
    • Stop the array and reassign the parity disk
    • Start the array to build parity from the data disks.

When the parity build completes it is a good idea to do a parity check to confirm that parity was written correctly.  This should report 0 errors.

    Thanks!

It's building the parity again now.  Fingers crossed it won't happen again...

  5. Report of the offending drive

  6. This is not working.  Looked at the file and then browsed to the jre file and it is not there.  Tried looking in older directories and found older versions.  Edited the file but of course I am now getting and md5 error.

    Cheers,

    Steve

  7. No that is a new one, ill be home in a few hours and will see what I can find

EDIT: Actually caught it, there isn't a port set. So sickbeard is looking for a port and trying to use "--datadir" as the port number.

Disable the plug-in, set a port & re-enable the plugin. If its not setting the port let me know, I'll look at it tonight.

    Sent from my HTC Vivid

Thank you!  Yep, my port setting had gone AWOL...

  8. Thanks for keeping these maintained Influencer.

I've changed to these plugins from the ones from the VW github.  All working except sickbeard, do you know why I'd be getting this error?

  9. You will want the finished files on the array itself rather than on a cache only share.

So If you had a share set up called TV (cache only not selected) you would want your completed files for that share to be...

    /mnt/user/TV

I'll quibble with that a tad. He wants his sorted stuff on the array, the finished downloads (not renamed and sorted) would be ok on the cache drive like he said. That way you only have the final move taking parity calculation cpu time. I have my completed folder on my cache, sickbeard scans it and moves / sorts / renames to my final destination drive on the array. It works out just fine for me. I even leave my unsorted stuff on the cache, I figure it's a fresh download, the worst that will happen is I have to fetch it again. I only put good / tested / sorted data on my array if I can help it.

Ah yes, I see what you are saying. Sab does some of my sorting so I was thinking more along the lines of my setup. Cache for final is better if it's all being sorted post download.

  10. This is exactly what I've been looking for too, thanks.

I've ran into a little difficulty though... I think I have it all set up properly but it doesn't wake my server.

I think it may be to do with the way I've mounted my shares on osx, I have just done it through go > connect to server. Do they have to be mounted so osx 'remembers' them somehow?

My end goal is to use the shares in xbmc. I have a mac mini attached to my tv but I am not experienced in osx. Any help appreciated!

  11. Download failed - Out of your server's retention?

I stopped and restarted SAB - Same thing.  then I rebooted the server and unRAID - same error.  Any ideas?  a syslog is attached.  5.0beta-12

That error is down to your usenet provider.  The files you are trying to download are not available any more as they are outside the retention range that they have.

  12. Hi again Joe,

I changed SATA ports on that HDD and it completed this time but with an error...

...I've also managed to break my USB stick moving my server around but that's seperate issue... :P

  13. Hi Joe,

I restarted the machine but copied the log first.

There doesn't seem to be much in there?

Booted up and started the preclear went off to work.  Got back, logged in again and crash by the looks of it?

  14. I have tried preclearing the same drive twice now (2TB Hitachi Deskstar, 0F12117), both times it has crashed/became stuck in writing the zeros (second stage).  The first time it got to 44%, this time 55%.  I used screen to launch the script.

If I do a ps I can see the script is still there...

    root      7161  7012  0 07:26 pts/1    00:00:05 /bin/bash ./preclear_disk.sh /dev/sdg

but I don't think it's doing anything because this is what top shows...

Both time it has also taken down the unraid and unmenu interfaces with it and I'm not sure how to launch them again without a hard reset.  My shares are also down but applications such as sabnzbd are still working.

    Is this a drive issue?

  15. The code is written and I'm testing now, and hopefully -beta4 tomorrow (Wednesday), well I see it's already Wed, so today sometime  ;)

As beta 4 is already on the roadmap as a feature release and will probably have been referred to elsewhere in the forums would it be easier to call it beta 3.1?

Looking forward to giving this a go :)

  16. I had been running sickbeard with the log location of /var/log/ which meant my cache drive would spin down.

When running sickbeard as nobody I had to change the log directory to a folder on my cache drive otherwise it would generate permission errors with /var/log/.

After googling the issue it seems only root has access to /var/log/.  I have tried changing the permissions of /var/log/ to 775 but it still gives errors.

Does anyone know if there is anyway to give nobody access to write to /var/log/ or some other solution to change the logging of sickbeard to allow the cache drive to spin down?
