  1. That looks like where I was trying to move files from a Windows machine to the array.

I'm chasing several problems now. I might have a corrupted disk on my Windows machine, all of the directories that I move files from are now showing as corrupt/unreadable, running chkdsk on them HDDs.

I've disabled the cache drive for the affected share and files are going on to the array, or appear to be. (Moving from an alternate location to the array).

Once chkdsk finishes, I'll re-enable the cache and see what happens.

  2. I'm on 5.0.5 Pro with 20TB total space, 11ish TB free. When I try to move files to my array from the cache drive using mover, I'm getting the No Space Left on Device error.

When I move them from my Windows machine to the array the move just errors out.

I adjusted the split level on the share (Movies) that I know it isn't working on, made the split level 25, disk to most-free, etc and I'm still getting the error.

The GUI says I have 300GB free of 500GB on my cache drive and I do have one disk that is 100% full in my array, I've excluded that disk from my Movie share.

I've run the new permissions script (though I've been on version 5 since 3TB drives became reasonably priced).

The only addon I had running besides the stock WebGUI was CrashPlan, I can't seem to disable the WebGUI but the syslog should be without CrashPlan installed.

Any ideas on what to try?

  3. I've had ESXi up and running for a long time. PCI passthrough and RDM just works.

I tried Hyper-V using a Dreamspark license, it was a long and fruitless venture.

Xenserver never wanted to play nice but I think that was more due to the confusing documentation on Xenserver, sometimes people were talking about the old paid version, some guides used the community version, etc.

ESXi is my home server sweetheart right now. I bought a cheap ebay server and I've loaded it with Proxmox. It's free, does KVM, etc but I haven't tried to pass anything through yet.

  4. HP PROLIANT DL180 G6 STORAGE SERVER 2 x SIX CORE L5639 8GB RAM $399, sure it isn't 24 bays but if you don't need that much room (this is 14 bay) this might be just what the doctor ordered.

It is a server so it might be louder than you want in a frequently used space, reports are that the noise level is only obscene on start up and then it idles back down to desktop noise levels. This would also be a great virtualization platform though I'm not 100% sure on the ability to passthrough the HBA to unRAID.

  5. I went with uNmenu, SimpleFeatures and Crashplan.

I wanted to keep things simple for unRaid so I virtualized it and run most of my other applications (Plex, Sab, CP, SB, etc) on my WHS 2011 VM.

Management of the other applications is easier and I think I'm getting more bang for my hardware investment even though running 5 VM's (unRaid, WHS, Server 2012, Ubuntu 12.04 x2 (one server for testing, one for OpenAtrium) )one doesn't even get to 30% of my CPU utilization using ESXi 5.1.

  6. Apparently, my toddler pulled 8 disk out of my unRAID server at some point in the last six days.

When I noticed the removable trays askew I logged into the the GUI and all drives showed green and spun down. I think that means there has been no activity on the drives since they got pulled out.

What should be my next step, last parity check was six days ago.

Reseat drives, start it up and... ?

    version 5 rc 11

    Thanks in advance.

  7. My flash drive has apparently died  :( I'm looking to replace it with an SD card reader and everyone says the MobileLite G2 has its own unique GUID.

Does anyone know if the G3 does as well?  I would assume it does but was looking for anyone with experience with the reader.

  8. Madburg, thanks for a fantastic guide!

I got a new pulled M1015 from EBay, plugged it in, attempted to flash, swapped mobo's, flashed, reinstalled, viola!

The motherboard in my UNRAID is an Asus P8B WS with the 0805 BIOS, it recognized the card and let me erase it but I got the notorious PAL error when I tried to flash the BIOS.  I pulled the card and put it into my desktop machine with an ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 mobo and it flashed with no issues.

I reinstalled the card in my UNRAID machine, upgraded to 5.0B11 and it's doing a parity check at about 120MB/SEC.

SBR attached and again, thanks for the outstanding work!
