  1. I'm using a VDMK (does not work with built-in updating).  I could play around with PLOP.... but the slow boot speed annoys me.

PLOP/USB does worth with the update plugin.

I used to do that as well, but just upgraded both ESXi (from 5.5) and unRAID(from 5.0.4), and while I was at it thought I would just test the improved plop: PlopKexec.

It is MUCH faster at booting! I just timed it (see my config in signature):

    • Power on until finished reading kernel and starting "running text": 30 secs
    • Power on until login prompt: 1 minute flat!  ;D

So now I just boot using the plopKexec ISO never looking back again to the vmdk-method.

I might have to give Plop  a try.  I've always used the vmdk method but if Plop is just as fast and works with auto update I'm in.

  2. I'm experiencing this problem as well.  I'm running Unraid 6 as a guest on ESXI 5.1 (and a supermicro X9SCM motherboard with SASLP-MV8 raid controllers).

However, I'm unable to pass through the USB controller -- when I set the value to pass it through, it doesn't 'stick' through the reboot.

Any one know if an upgrade to the latest ESXI would correct this?

Edit: I've upgraded to 6.1rc and am still seeing this same issue:

Jul 18 23:42:22 Tower kernel: usb 1-1: reset high-speed USB device number 2 using ehci-pci

    Jul 18 23:42:22 Tower kernel: sd 3:0:0:0: [sda] 121307136 512-byte logical blocks: (62.1 GB/57.8 GiB)

I would recommend you upgrade to the latest build of 5.5 of ESXi.

Also, where did you get 6.1 from?  I don't see it on limetech's website or available through the autoupdate plugin.

  3. Very likely, as it was broken in a kernel update, it will be fixed in a kernel update.  Somewhere out there is a user who may not have even heard of unRAID, but is suffering from the same problem.  They will report it, and diffs will be checked, and a patch will be reversed or corrected.

Yes, may be :) but then you have to wait somewhere till the end of the year when more Linux distros(Ubuntu for example) start shipping kernel 4.

New 6.1 RC has new kernel... no time to update yet, but I'm curious if it fixes our issues.

I will test it in an hour or so and report back.

  4. They said it just shows direct play but still transcodes so it is more of an annoyance.

Anyway to roll back the Limetech Plex Media Server docker to 0.9.12.3 since 0.9.12.4 has the DirectPlay bug?

If you switch to the Needo/plex docker image you could add a VERSION variable and set it to 0.9.12.3

Yea I'm OCD about that kind of stuff so it was bothering me :).  I switched back to 0.9.12.3 and I'm all good now.

  5. ... I actually wound up swapping the Avaton board for a different SuperMicro board ... because the PCI-E slot on the Avaton boards don't fit the expansion adapter that goes with the U-NAS case because the PCI-E slot on the Avaton boards do not have an open end.

Just noticed this comment and am curious about exactly what the issue is.  I'm thinking of ordering the U-NAS case, but am not sure what adapter you're referring to.

There isn't one.  Just that the PCI-E expander cable they include with the case was x16 and the Avaton board I had only had a PCI-E x8 slot that wasn't open ended so I couldn't fit the expander cable into it for my M1015 HBA.  I could have just purchased a x8 expander cable but I decided I didn't need that much power for a backup server (or the quad NICs) so I decided to sell the board and get the cheaper J1900 board.

  6. Having to passthrough my USB controller is killing me because it renders all the rest of my USB ports useless (all my USB ports are on a single controller).  I hope this "bug" gets fixed soon.

Unless it gets fixed inadvertently, I doubt it will.  Limetech has stated that they do not support running unRAID as a guest.

Yea I know.  I guess I'm just hoping someone else running as a guest "stumbles" across a fix like you said.

  7. Anyway to roll back the Limetech Plex Media Server docker to 0.9.12.3 since 0.9.12.4 has the DirectPlay bug?

If you switch to the Needo/plex docker image you could add a VERSION variable and set it to 0.9.12.3

I just tried that but I get errors in the docker log about permission denied to the plugin logs and the server never fully starts.  So looks like I need to wait for Plex to release a new version fixing this bug.

  8. Hi All,

Has anyone set up the plexrequests docker to restrict access by IP address?  I can't see a way to do it in the config, but I'm wondering where in unRAID I could potentially create a .htaccess file to only allow specific external addresses from accessing the internal site.  Is that possible?

    Thanks!

Do you know for a fact that the IP addresses won't change?  Most people's ISP's use dynamic external IP addresses so you'd have to update that file everytime someone's IP address changes or they won't be able to access your server.  Your best bet is to create these rules using alias'/hostnames (setup with dynamic dns) so that you don't have to make any changes when one of your users' IP address changes.

  9. My backup UnRAID server is finally on it's way.  Will update with actual pics when everything arrives this week/weekend but for now I'll post a pic of the case I'm using and my build list :D.

    Components:

    SuperMicro A1SAi-2550F Mini-ITX board / Quad-core Avaton CPU SoC

    4GB DDR3-1600 ECC RAM

6 x 3TB WD Reds (same as main UnRAID server)

    Seasonic 350w 1U PSU

    U-NAS NSC-800 Mini-ITX case

    front_small_zpsqvbzwm68.jpg

Any Feedback on the Avaton SoC and this Board? Setup is really nice!  Also, what do you use to backup your main Unraid to this unas Unraid?  Script? Plugin? Docker?

I actually wound up swapping the Avaton board for a different SuperMicro board with a Celeron J1900 on it instead.  First because the celeron is more than enough for a backup server and secondly because the PCI-E slot on the Avaton boards don't fit the expansion adapter that goes with the U-NAS case because the PCI-E slot on the Avaton boards do not have an open end.

But all in all I absolutely love the case and the server has worked wonderfully as a backup.  I used the free utility Syncback (garycase recommended it) to do the full transfer of 11TB from my main server to this backup and it worked wonderfully.

  10. OK,fixed by changing the /config directory from /mnt/user/Docker/appdata/PlexRequests to /mnt/cache/Docker/appdata/PlexRequests.

Is your Docker share cache-only? If not it should be. If it is, then there is no difference between /mnt/user/Docker and /mnt/cache/Docker.

It is, and I didn't think so either but it doesn't work if I use the user share.  I have to select /mnt/cache in order for the docker to work.

The actual docker.img file must be on a drive and not on a user share, but docker volume mappings can use user shares fine.

Are you absolutely sure none of you other drives have a top level folder named Docker?

    What do you get from?

    ls -la /mnt/user0

    Positive.  Here's the output.

However I'm not finding any instructions from any of the provided links for how to actually configure it to work with Sonarr/CouchPotato.  Some of the settings in such as rootFolderPath, SeasonFolder in Sonarr aren't very descriptive and I'm not sure what to enter there.

  13. I'm trying to get PlexRequests setup but after installing the Docker from the community apps (set config folder and host port), I can't even get into the WebUI.  I'm getting the following errors in my log:

Unexpected mongo exit code 14. Restarting.

Unexpected mongo exit code 14. Restarting.

Unexpected mongo exit code 14. Restarting.

    Can't start Mongo server.

  14. Just for $hit$ since I haven't messed with the final version 6 and my USB (which was previously seeing errors on all the RC3 and up), I decided to install 6.0.1 on my USB 3.0 San Disk Ultra Fit (configured with an xHCI USB Controller in VM settings) today along side a VMDK on my ESXi 5.5 server.  It's been up a half hour and I've had no USB reset errors since boot (I always get the message once or twice during boot even on my working 6b15 server).  Now it's not an official test since I have no other disks attached to this VM since my M1015 is passed through currently to my running 6b15 server but I'm not sure if adding disks would make any difference anyway with regard to this issue.

I'm tempted to try and upgrade my 6b15 server to 6.0.1 (worst case I just downgrade if it breaks it).  However that is a USB 2.0 flash drive connected to a physical USB 2.0 port and configured with an EHCI USB controller in my VM settings so it's not exactly a great test.

Have I read something somewhere about being able to change your USB flash drive through the webgui somewhere?

  15. Ah so you can only use the OpenVPN-AS docker as a VPN server not as a client to create a tunnel for your entire server to a VPN service?  I was hoping to use it as a client to create an always on tunnel to AirVPN so I don't have to configure pfSense for that.  That way my unRAID server (and any of the additional dockers) would transmit through that tunnel while all other traffic on my network goes out my regular WAN.  Can this be done or should I just leave that type of config to my pfSense box?

Nope not possible, OpenVPN-AS, AS as in Access server  :P

Binhex have a fwee dockers with vpn support, other that that i dont know.

I run pfsense for that myself, just NAT the ips that i want through the vpn(no NAT rules for them over my regular wan interface) and block them with outgoing firewall rules through the regular wan interface for no dns leakeage.

(use dns servers that keeps no logs).

What VPN service do you use?

Private Internet Access, been happy with them getting about 100-120 mbit throughput.

Gonna move from pfsense to sophos utm so hope they support ipsec tunnels.

They don't (unless that recently changed) which was why I went with pfSense instead of Sophos UTM myself even though I use Sophos at work.  I'm currently testing out AirVPN though since I can't port forward Plex statically through PIA.

  18. Call me stupid but I don't see the default password for the webui (username is listed as openvpn) anywhere?

You can see it in the variables on the Advanced View page (upper right corner) when editing the docker config.  It's something like webUI_changme (I can't remember as I changed it  :))

Never noticed that advanced view button (it's pretty small).  Thanks!
