  1. Perfect thanks! If I only have 1 drive right now, can I add it in and then add a parity drive later on? Is it as simple as just adding another drive and "formatting" it as the parity drive?
  2. I don't have the USB key. I just have e-mail that states: Attached to this email is your unRAID Server Plus registration key. The USB Flash device to which this key is bound is: ***I have the attachment, which is a "Plus.key" file.
  3. I used to have a running UnRaid server years ago and haven't used it for over 5 years. I want to run a completely new UnRaid server (all new hardware). How do I go about getting it setup? I got my original key in 2011. I guess I was asked for the GUID of my USB key so they could give me the registration key? Looking at some tutorials I'm guessing it's more automated then it was 10 years ago, so what steps can I take? Thanks!
  4. On my main computer I can't access the main config page(windows) any way. Using the ip or //tower it just says 404 not found. but on other computers it works... I tried flushdns and nbtstat -r but it didn't do anything... Even tried different browsers.. What's wrong? Also I cannot access it through windows network either.
  5. A google search is your friend. The program you are looking for is called wdidle3 (here). There are a couple of ways to do this, though there are different things that need to be done if you are running anything besides unRAID on the server. 1. Is it easy/safe(existing data)/and necessary to do? 2. All I have is UnRaid installed.
  6. 1. Since I'm using advanced formatted WD Green 2tb hd's, I was reading that I need to change some sort of spin/clock timer or something, something to do with a program called weide or something like that? Is it necessary? What does it mean, that the disks are spinning to often and reduced the life cycle? 2. I want to turn off the tower at night when no one is using it. Most of the time my brother falls asleep while watching and thus it stays on. Is there a way to somehow constantly change/adjust like a sleep timer or shutoff timer in the main status page? I know there are addons but how easy are they to manage? Thanks
  7. A- Pre 5.0b6 unRAID ties the drive to the assignment by serial# and port so if the port changes then the assignment changes. I believe the new beta only uses the serial numbers so it would have figured it out. It has nothing to do with the drive being the parity, however be VERY careful with parity assignment. B - Every connected drive should show-up for the devices page. If a drive doesn't then you have a problem, possibly with the controller not having an unRAID driver. You don't add the drive until you are done with the preclear. Peter Thank You!
  8. type screen -d -r 23450.pts-0.Tower <this will detach and resume your screen session> https://kb.iu.edu/data/ahrm.html I just started a new preclear session on the actual tower, not with telnet, what will happen? Is it going to stop the original preclear?
  9. Wrong. That is the command to clear and partition a drive for a partition starting on sector 64. It does not format anything. That's what I meant. It was a brand new hd so ya I needed to advance format it. Also to do the preclear I decided to telnet into the machine. My computer restarted for some reason, so now how do I get back in? Is the preclear still running? This is what I see root@Tower:/boot# screen -r There is a screen on: 23450.pts-0.Tower (Attached) There is no screen to be resumed. root@Tower:/boot#
  10. Well I figured out that the first 4 sata are handled by the nVidia controller and the other 4 are handled by the silicon controller so I had to enable those. So I just got in and 2 quick things: A - It appears as though 2 of the hd's have switched spots. I thought unraid is able to correctly figure that stuff out? is it because one of the drives it the parity drive, is that what caused it to do that? B - Will my new unformatted un-anything hard drive show up in the devices tab? And the command to format is ./preclear_disk.sh -A /dev/sdX right?
  11. I'll try to do that, but unfortunately now my computer wont boot... As for my PSU, is 520W enough? 5HD(4-2TB, 1 1TB)?
  12. This is the PSU I am using: OCZ ModStream OCZ-520 12U http://www.silentpcreview.com/article208-page1.html I am assuming by rails you mean input thingys? So yes I have 4 and before I had 2 on each and I am still moving them around, but still nothing.
  13. Version 4.7. Everything was going fine, I decided to add a brand new hd into my array, hooked everything up and now I'm getting 2 missing disks. So I moved some power cables around and now I'm missing all my disks. Went back to original setup, still missing disks. Is my PSU not powerful enough? I believe it is 520w, is that not good enough?
  14. Nope, just make sure you use the latest version of the preclear script and use the advance format option.
  15. No addons installed. I am simply not putting anything new on the disk.
  16. Currently I have 3 disks. And I have 3 folders on each disk, lets just say Folder A/B/C. So now since I have a file that is 5gb, Disk A/B only have 2gb left on them, I manually add it to Disk C. But when I keep adding more data directly onto Disk C, now Disk B has an extra 15gb. What is going on? Is Unraid just moving stuff around, or is it possible that something is getting deleted? Thanks
  17. Like I said, my laptop and PC were writing files to the SAME HD, at different times, so why would my laptop be faster and my PC be slower. See my first post. yes, and after i asked, is there any type of software patch or something I can do, what if I transfer via DOS or something?

  19. WD EARS 2tb, but it is going to the same drive, so it wouldn't matter?
  20. It transfers at 27mb/s. And yes, everything is connected with a gigabit switch.
  21. My laptop and Main PC both have gbit cards, as well as my Unraid. When I transfer data with my Windows 7 laptop I get speeds of around 15mbps. When I use my Main PC with Windows XP I get anywhere from 3-10mbps. What could the problem be? Took me about 45 minutes to transfer a 10gb file. Edit: laptop is now going up to 27mbps.
  22. is that under share security? because that is all I see(unraid is currently running) What version of unRAID are you running? On the "Settings" page, set "Share Security" to "User Level" (You must stop the array to change the setting) Then, when you start the array you'll be able to add "users" on the "Users" page. Joe L. 4.7 Plus. Thanks!
