  1. How can I figure if something is missing in my setting or configuration ? I really don't understand how to enable the intel support. I thought it would be simple, but I can't find the How-to and the different threads are not really helping. Here I join the syslog, if someone can teach me something maybe obvious ? syslog.txt
  2. Hi guys, Thanks to you I successfully upgraded from 6.6.5 to 6.9.2. I wanted to install Jellyfin and start streaming to mobile devices. Alas, I have a problem with /dev/dri missing. searching what it was about, I found this is due to the hardware encoding acceleration not being enabled. I found this thread : But I can't manage to enable this feature. I installed Intel-GPU-TOP, but it doesn't seems to help. I touched the i915.conf file to create it in /boot/config/modprobe.d/ no change I created the directory /dev/dri myself. It doesn't help. my hardware is : SuperMicro X10SLM-F (4 SATA 6.0Gbs + 2 SATA 3.0Gbs) 3x Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 Core™ i3-4130T CPU @ 2.90GHz 16 GB RAM (upgradable to 32GB) LAN speed is 1Gb/s a monitor is plugged in the VGA port of the motherboard. Do you know what to do to fix my problem ?
  3. Before unplugging the thumb drive and doing the upgrade manually, I tried PositronicP solution, as I had set a static IP address for obvious reason. And it worked. I switched to automatic, and magically the OS update AND the plugin install features came back. I could update to 6.9.2 and install CA. Thank you guys for your fast answers and helping hands. ------ Now I want to turn to Docker and install useful apps and plugins on the Unraid server so everyone at home will find it very useful. To start with a simple objective, I would like to have media services usable by ma family through their Android ans IOS phones and tablet. This NAS is used as a file server, SMB and NFS shares. We store all of our videos, photos and music, plus our important files. I synchronize manually. Could you point me to the "correct way" to use Docker, aka understanding the settings and bests practices ? Would my spare USB key be of any interest in this process ? I have an Unraid pro licence installed on : a 24 bay unit with 22 drives, comprising 1 parity drive. I have no cache drive. I have no app settings/experience as I don't use any. Although my unit has 24 bays, Unraid pro seems to be able, lastly, to handle 30 drives with 2 parity among them. I didn't see the obvious necessity of a second parity drive, as I can react pretty quickly if a drive dies and have never experience two at the same time. But I can see a cache drive being installed as the write speed is lowed down by the parity process and struggle to reach 40MB/s when writing big files. But I am not sure I understood everything I need to know about cache drive before setting one in my server. my hardware is : Motherboard : SuperMicro X10SLM-F (4 SATA 6.0Gbs + 2 SATA 3.0Gbs) 3x Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 Core™ i3-4130T CPU @ 2.90GHz 16 GB RAM (upgradable to 32GB) LAN speed is 1Gb/s
  4. Thanks, I will do that this week-end. I will buy a new flash drive to switch with the old one, it is inside the server for 6 years now.
  5. Ok, thank you for your advice. Do I risk to loose the actual config ? I do not have any plugin installed that I need to keep, or anything else than the config itself (drives, shares and users)
  6. Hello every one. I don't come often, only when in needs ... sorry. I updated my unraid until 6.6.5 then didn't stay up to date, because I didn't need to. Lately, I wanted to start using more than just NFS and SMB, activate Docker, install DLNA server and more. But I found that I can't update anymore. The "update OS" function doesn't show any version to install. If I try to install it manually, using this URL : https://s3.amazonaws.com/dnld.lime-technology.com/stable/unRAIDServer.plg I get an error : plugin: installing: https://s3.amazonaws.com/dnld.lime-technology.com/stable/unRAIDServer.plg plugin: downloading https://s3.amazonaws.com/dnld.lime-technology.com/stable/unRAIDServer.plg plugin: downloading: https://s3.amazonaws.com/dnld.lime-technology.com/stable/unRAIDServer.plg ... failed (Network failure) plugin: wget: https://s3.amazonaws.com/dnld.lime-technology.com/stable/unRAIDServer.plg download failure (Network failure) I am using this server every day so I don't think the network configuration is to blame. I used the diagnostic tool to get enough information for you guys to help me, if you are willing to. What more can I say... I tried to use Plex some years ago and the way it was converting the files didn't suit my needs so I deactivated it. Maybe I broke something along the way ? any thank you for anyone willing to help me. media-diagnostics-20211118-1717.zip
  7. Thank you for your input ! I tried to just copy files from one disk to the other and it didn't change the speed much. I understand that moving manually files around can be seen as an OCD. I tend to prefer to isolate data depending on a criteria. This allows me to know exactly where is the file, to have only one drive up if I am only using those data, and to handle available space perfectly. I tried the other way first but was pretty much unpleased with it, so I came back to this OCD. But I do understand the paradox. To manage this kind of task, I use MC and let it go for as long as necessary, but the amount of DATA is tremendous and the rate is unbearable. I was wondering if I was doing it wrong. I am going to reflect on this for a while...
  8. Hello every one. I am using unraid for a while now. I have a pro licence on a 24 bays server with 1 parity drive my brand new parity drive is a 10TB Toshiba Enterprise Capacity https://static.digitecgalaxus.ch/Files/1/4/3/7/9/5/3/8/eHDD-MG06ACAxxx-Product_Overview.pdf I chose it to replace a Western Red of 8TB, expecting some improvement in speed and reliability. Getting a new parity drive allows me to use the previous one as Data in place of a smaller disk. So... I am moving files, in term of TB. I usually connect to the server using putty, launch Midnight Commander and browse the disk mounts to find the rights files to move between disks. But it takes forever, and I am a bit disappointed, each time, that the transfer rate is not more than 20MB/s. I am moving files inside the server, from one disk to another, so why is it so slow ? When i add files to a share from my windows computer, going through my GB network, the transfer rate goes from 60MB/s to 150MB/s, depending on the file size and the fragmentation of the file (I suppose, I don't really know how this filesystem works). So why is it so slow internally ?
  9. I have experienced the same behaviour I mainly use this NAS for cold storage: - movies - tvseries - documentaries - ... - personnal data - family photos - family videos Those are stuff we access once in a while, not regularly accessed files. So there is always a doubt about having stored a file or not. But where lies my certainty is where I have stored a file in a directory of the same name, as I usually do for movies. Once again, I can find the directory, no file inside. I just happened to have completed a parity check, with 1 error. I don't know what the error is, I doubt it is this file. It is not the first time I suspect the system losing file. I am sadly pleased to know you experienced the same thing. I also have my system in XFS and a dozen of shares with read/write access. I mainly write through windows 10 and sometime with the NMJ popcorn library software.
  10. What do you think of the following : 1. I can't retrieve the data on the rebuilt disk. 2. I format this new big disk and transfer data from two other disks on it, freeing two slots/bays in my NAS. 3. I insert my old disk and mount it -out of the array- and try a XFS_REPAIR on this old disk. 4. success or failure, I will have done the possible to get my data back, I may copy the data from this disk on the array.
  11. To launch XFS_repair, I removed the -n value and pressed the button. Did I do wrong ? I am afraid the repair concern all the disks and not only the one at fault. Am I wrong to be worried ?
  12. I didn't ask or press anything for the rebuild I pressed the button for xfs_repair, that's all. Should I stop the rebuild ? As I told you, the array doesn't want the old disk as the new disk is 8TB and the OLD is 2TB. I tried to plug it in and start the array and it clearly told me the new disk should be as big or bigger than the old one. Do you mean mount the old disk out of the array ? How can I do that ?
