  1. You can add non-steam games to Steam manually and stream them.  It doesn't work with every single game out there, but definitely some.  I used this method to play games from Origin this way.  How do you do it?  Open steam on the system you're streaming FROM and from the games menu, click "Add a non-Steam game to my library."

    Sweet. I'll give that a shot for a couple non-Steam games I have on my VM.

  2. I too wanted a WinXP machine but instead went with a Win7 Lite iso after encountering the lack of a floppy. However, I've figured out how to get WinXP installed in KVM.

    Grab this image below

    http://www.linux-kvm.com/sites/default/files/viostor-31-03-2010-floppy.img

    Add this to your WinXP XML file, changing the source file path to where you've saved the above image.

    <disk type='file' device='floppy'>
    <source file='/path/to/your/viostor-31-03-2010-floppy.img'/>
    <target dev='fda'/>
    </disk>

    You don't have to press any keys when booting the WinXP installer. Just go through as normal and the installer will automatically detect the floppy image. When you get to the formatting portion, you should see the disk!

  3. Interesting.  It never crossed my mind to eliminate a desktop like this.  Funny, I have my Desktop computer, which does almost nothing, pretty close to my Unraid server.  The built in virtualization in Unraid supports GPU passthrough right?  Are you still able to use the onboard video to see the unraid console, or are all of you doing this through Vmware?

    Yeah, I had plans to build a separate gaming rig until unRAID 6 came along. The built-in virtualization supports GPU passthrough as long as you have a motherboard and CPU that supports VT-d. I have the onboard VGA graphics displaying the console and the GPU HDMI displaying my Windows VM.

    If I don't plan on locally gaming on the server, is it worth using a GPU?  I saw spencers' post and I want to confirm.  You can actually boot the vm from say an older Macbook and assign the GPU resources to a windows VM and game using the server hardware?

    You're close, but have some things mixed up. I'm booting a Windows VM on the server (with the GPU installed) and streaming the game from Windows to my Mac.  Here's the thing... I can only do this through Steam in-home streaming. So I'm limited to only playing games that are available on Steam. Valve is the only company I know that does streaming. If I wanted to play any games that are not on Steam, I have to play locally in front of the TV.

  4. Every minute, I'm getting the line below in my log. I'm not sure where the heck it's coming from or how to check. Seems to only have arisen after rc3 update/reboot.

    No plugins installed. Only 4 dockers and 2 VMs.

    Aug 13 14:40:01 Unraid crond[1572]: exit status 127 from user root /usr/local/sbin/monitor &> /dev/null

    Aug 13 14:43:01 Unraid crond[1572]: exit status 127 from user root /usr/local/sbin/monitor &> /dev/null

    It seem you have to disable and enable notifications to get it working again. It's explained in the first post.

    OOPS!!!  Thought I did that!

    EDIT: Had to disable system notification and re-enable as well. Not just third-party notifications.

  6. This is what i got after running sensors-detect on my h87i-plus. What do i do now? Do i have to copy that file manually or is the script telling me it has done so? I couldnt find a init.d folder on my /etc folder though.

    Do i just write modprobe coretemp in my go file like what was written a few posts above?

    I've done the same. Just wondering if there's more temperatures, fan speed, voltages that can be pulled with the Asus H87i-PLUS

  7. Now with more ram, dockers, and two VM's installed I'm thinking about putting a good video card in it and trying my hand at gaming! I just need to purchase a vt-d capable CPU (I KNOW gary will suggest the i7-4790). I'm considering an i5-4xxx series for some savings...

    I already have a nVidia 8800GT to test with, I'm just happy I chose the Q25B as it has space for a long double slot video card!

    8) I picked up my i5-4570 used for $115 shipped. I'm sure you can find a good deal like that!

  8. I'm not using the Q25 (I'm not the OP, sorry if my post made it seem like I was!) - I'm using a Fractal Design Node 304.

    I chose the 750 Ti specifically for its compact dimensions (<7" long) and low TDP - it gets all its power from the PCIe slot without an additional cable and runs very cool and quiet. It fits in the case with lots of room to spare. I'd expect it to work very well in the Q25 too.

    I have the VM running Steam with In-Home Streaming enabled, so I can play on my laptop with the server doing all the hard work!

    Nice job on the passthrough!

    Really itching to ditch my Asus P8H77 and i3-3220T for a mobo/cpu that will do GPU passthrough for the steam in-home streaming.

    We really need a thread for known compatibilities of mobo/cpu that work with GPU passthrough.

  9. No rc2 thread?

    Just updated from b15. I like the KVM icon additions to make them look and perform like the Docker icons!

    The play/stop button is oddly placed though. Safari 8.0.6 on Mac. They look fine in Chrome on Mac.

    Did you try clearing your browser cache on safari?  Or a shift + refresh?

    Clearing cache fixed it!

  10. spencers,

    I would think if you made a Win XP iso with the drivers injected using various programs out there that I cannot think of at the moment would work ;)

    Kryspy

    So I've tried that, following a tutorial http://www.wikihow.com/Slipstream-Your-SATA-Drivers-Into-a-Windows-XP-Installation-CD-Using-nLite using nLite to load the drivers from the Virtio ISO to my WinXP 32bit ISO, and it still says no hard drive found. At a complete loss here, fellas.

    You may need to skip virtio for now and use an emulated storage controller. Once windows is installed, you may be able to do the old switcheroo back to virtio.

    To use an emulated controller, change this part of your XML:

        <disk type='file' device='disk'>
          <driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/>
          <source file='/mnt/cache/apps/kvm/winxpVM/winxpVM.qcow2'/>
          <backingStore/>
          <target dev='hda' bus='virtio'/>
          <alias name='virtio-disk0'/>
          <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x04' function='0x0'/>
        </disk>

    To this:

        <disk type='file' device='disk'>
          <driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/>
          <source file='/mnt/cache/apps/kvm/winxpVM/winxpVM.qcow2'/>
          <backingStore/>
          <target dev='hda' bus='sata'/>
        </disk>

    Thank you! I'll have to give that a shot. Currently I just installed a lite version of Win7 and it's running just fine. Just gotta upgrade from 4GB to 8GB of RAM to feel a little more comfortable.
