  1. Replaced the motherboard, CPU and memory. Preclear ran through with no problems.
  2. If you are using the free basic version of unraid, you could just prepare the new flash drive as per the install instructions, then overwrite those files with your current flash contents. If you have a license key, it is tied to the unique flash ID, and there is no way to swap keys without purchasing a new license. If your current flash dies, you can email Tom and explain your situation, and he will work with you to solve the issue. In any case, it's a good idea to make a backup of your flash drive contents every time you make a change to your configuration, either changing hardware or adding software to the key. Thanks. I've been running the free version, but plan on upgrading to the Pro Version, and I want to do it with a new Flash.
  3. What if I want to swap out the USB drive? All I have ever installed on the USB drive, aside from the Unraid 4.7, is the preclear script. Thanks.
  4. Sounds more like your server has crashed. If you are unable to telnet to it, and unable to access the web-management console, and there is no disk activity, something is not right. The syslog will be gone when you reboot, as it is kept in an in-memory file-system. The actual cause of your crash could be almost anything from a power supply unable to handle the additional load of the drive, to a defective drive, to errors filling the syslog and using all available memory, to defective RAM, to running out of RAM due to other processes using it all. Just about the only thing it might not be is the "mouse" Time to reboot. Joe L. Thanks. I can ping the system, just can't telnet to it and can't bring it up in a browser. I've been planning on rebuilding the server with new components and maybe now is the time. Maybe I'll start with a Memtest and then move onto checking the power supply.
  5. I've been running 4.7 for a long while now, years it seems, but recently decided it was time to add a new hard drive to the system. I've got a WD EARX 2TB drive and started the process of preclearing it last night. After it starts running the first stage after a while it seems to lock up the system. The screen is black, there is no response from the keyboard and the Hard Drive indicator light on the case doesn't appear to be flashing any, as if there is no HD activity. I remember back when I first built the system that preclear takes a long while to run through, but I don't ever recall not being able to walk up to the system and check the status of the preclear as it ran. Would a reboot of the system be in order and give me access to a syslog? Or does the preclear process go through a stage where I won't be able to check it's status?
  6. Thanks for the help. Pulled the stick out, ran chkdsk, put the stick back in, booted up with no problems and is running fine.
  7. I'm running version 4.7, have been for over a year now, and haven't had any problems until this past weekend. Sometime shortly after Sunday afternoon I started getting the "Windows Cannot Access" error message from all my computers, and it seemed to occur shortly after a power outage. I can see the server in the network browser in windows, can get to the UI page in Firefox and can Telnet into the server. At first I thought it was a NIC card issue, so I changed the card but still have the problem. I only have 3 drives in the machine, but the 3rd drive, which is intended to be a parity drive but has actually never been used. Also, I don't have a cache drive. I've attached a copy of the syslog. I don't know what to really look for, but one part caught my eye, a repeated error message that reads: "Oct 9 20:14:33 Tower kernel: FAT: Filesystem error (dev sdd1) Oct 9 20:14:33 Tower kernel: fat_get_cluster: invalid cluster chain (i_pos 270346)" Could it be a corruption with the flash drive? Something more serious? I know I should be using a battery backup with the system, but since I've been in the middle of a move I haven't put one in place yet. Thanks. syslog.txt
  8. I'm having a very very similar issue but with version 4.7. Had a power outage and now I'm getting the "Windows Cannot Access" error on every Windows 7 machine. I can telnet into the box, can browse to it in Firefox and can ping it, just can't access the shares. I too have no cache disk, but with 4.7 there is no "New Permissions" button.
  9. Can I run preclear on a new drive, while not taking the array off-line? Or is it best to take the array off-line and let preclear run?
  10. If you pre-cleared it already, and it was not yet assigned to the array, and you pre-cleared it without a jumper, you can use: preclear_disk.sh -C 64 /dev/sdX (where sdX = your disks's device) It will convert the pre-clear signature to use a starting sector of 64. It only takes a few seconds. It will only convert if it is currently "precleared" and you did not change the jumper setting since you cleared it. If not, use the "-A" option and run it through another cycle. Joe L. Okay. I'll do that. Thanks again for all the help.
  11. Thanks Joe. That's what I thought. That's the 2nd of the 3 drives I got from Newegg I'll have to RMA. The other drive turned out perfect. Should I bother doing another preclear on the good drive, and this time use the "-A" option since I'm not jumpering it? Thanks again.
