  1. So I found how to fix this

I had the same problem (with the EFI enabled because I couldn't get it to run otherwise). Strange; although installation of Ubuntu 14.04.2 got no error, installing Kubuntu 15.04 failed to finalize. It froze at the very end when asked to remove DVD. After reset, it booted fine but after power down it brought up shell.

    So, to avoid shell type:

    fs0:
    edit startup.nsh

and on the opened window add these 2 lines:

    FS0:
    \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi

press Ctrl + s and Enter to save and Ctrl + q to quit. Then restart VM.

Alternatively, you can always use these 2 lines to exit shell and boot OS. But second time you restart you will be in a shell again and to avoid it edit startup.nsh.

  2. I have a Rosewill RSV-L4500 and turned it into a hot swap case now.

You get the cables, fans, cages, mounts. Basically everything you see in the pictures.

Everything for $100. plus shipping. I am in Texas.

    paypal or bitcoin/litecoin accepted.

Now you may say I can buy the case for $100. That is true but you also are not getting it with the Noctua fans. There is at least $125 worth of fans here not including the extensions.

  3. So I am getting this error trying to start up my ubuntu vm.

I didn't save the lib file when i moved servers. I had just copied over the .img files and put the specs back to what they were.

All was good with my Windows VMs but my ubuntu vm.. well not so much luck.

So how do I go about fixing this? Also I had upgraded from 6.3.5 to 6.4.1

  4.

I have looked at both of these posts and still having some issues.

I have gotten the 2 ports that I want off of both controllers hidden but its not showing up in the VM port area under available pci devices on the VM section.

    I had first tried: vfio-pci.ids=8086:1528, 8086:10fb

But it had hidden the whole network card and thankfully I was able to get to the web gui via the SFP+ port.

    Then I have tried: xen-pciback.hide=(03:00.1)(81:00.1)

and it hid the correct ports that is wanted but its not showing them available for the VM side.

I am wanting to pass through one port from the x540 and one from the SFP+ for PfSense.

Thank you for the help in advanced.

I had followed this guide to get all the details along with the others posted below.

  5. So here is something that got me wondering.

My server has 4 NICs total

    2 - 10gb onboard ethernet nics

    2 - SFP+ pcie

I have the 2 ethernet nics set to bonded for redundancy.

The other 2 are left to there own devices.

On the switch side I have the 2 sfp+ ports set to VLAN16.

I have a VM set to one of the sfp ports and I get the correct IP and everything. BUT I am able to see my other network as well...

Now the sfp  ports also run off of a different router/network. The switches are the only thing that is the same.

Something that is making me wonder is if for some reason the sfp ports are communicating through the unraid?

I am talking with the company over the switches and they say its correct on how I have it.

    Any ideas?

Edit: Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

  6. Nope. Not what I meant. I'm sorry if I am confusing you.

Say you set the VM image to max of 30GB

The OS install is 25GB and then you go to install your files and software. However it is 10GB. So what would happen is once you hit the 30GB instead of the drive showing FULL. It will expand with the needed space. So the VM image will expand to 35GB automatically.

I know when I do a Windows VM it allocates all 30GB at one go (if set that as the drive space). So in your scenario. By looking at total HD/SSD available space it will show a full 30GB taken. Not 25GB taken that the OS install.

  7. Its opposite of what you are saying.

So lets say the os/software is a total of 20gb then you install some more stuff and it goes to 30gb.

The vm image will then go from 20gb to 30gb. The vm image will expand with the system.

  8. SuperMicro X8DTL-iF motherboard
    Comes with CPU heat sinks
    NO CPUs

    $100

plus shipping. Just let me know where you are located and I'll let you know how much for shipping.

    PayPal and Bitcoin accepted

I got the motherboard and decided not to use it due to getting better processers and not compatable with the motherboard.

When using this motherboard you must have insulated washers on both side of the motherboard mounts. The fan headers are not thermo sensitive. Aka it will not spin the fans up and down. Once the BIOS is set depending on level it will spin the fans at that speed.

  9. $19 - each
$110 for all 6 fans and I have 2  1-3 pigtail connectors for the fans that I will throw in.

Let me know your location so I can let you know how much shipping is.

    Noctua NF-S12A FLX

They are practically brand new.I had put them in a computer case and decided to go to a 4 pin fan instead of a 3 pin. Although was too late for me to return them to the store.

They maybe have an hour of run time on them if that.

Please Note: will NOT come in original box.

  10. So an update on those wondering.

Got the BIG bad motherboard in and guess what. It didn't fit. I guess I should of paid attention to the Enhanced Extended ATX. My case said nope you will not go in. My case will only accept an E-ATX and ATX. Oops.... Thankfully they ordered me the regular E-ATX version  SUPERMICRO X10DRI-T. From the looks of it I only lose 2 NICs, and some RAM slots.

That should be in by Thursday. We shall see..

Oh and the Noctua NH-U12DXi4 didn't fit either. They were too tall for the case. So I packed them up and slapped a return label on it and gave it to the front office for them to give to UPS to return to Amazon. A couple of days has gone by on that and guess what. No activity on the tracking and the package is gone from the front office. So I think I just lost $140... On the other hand I had ordered the Noctua NH-U9DX i4  and I got them in today. They will fit but unless I turn it the 2 fans will be butting up next to each other. Or I might take one off. Idk. I'll tinker with it once it get it built and be able check the thermals.

If it's not one thing it's another with this build. BUT I'll be damned if I will let it beat me!

That's more than I would have expected -- is this with both a parity check and the fully loaded VM you noted above?   (which is what I assume is loading the CPUs at 99%)

    Yep.

    7-120mm fans

    2-80mm fans

    2 - cpu fans

    13 - wd reds

    2 - wd re

    1 - pny 960g ssd

    2 -  LSI MegaRAID 9240-8i PCI-E 6Gb RAID Controller IBM M1015

    1 - 4 port 1gb nic card

    1 - 2 port 10g sfp+ card

    2 - Intel Xeon L5640

    1 - Supermicro X8DTL-iF

The only thing that I didn't load up was the ram.

jeez when I go list it out like that. It sounds like there is A LOT of stuff in that case.. O.o

I'd do a parity check with the old system and see what the load is (should be fairly stable after it starts) ... and then do the same once you set up the new one.    I'd be very surprised if the new one isn't lower than the old.

Well the old setup is 375w full load doing a parity check/ and 99% on the CPUs.

You shouldn't have to do anything except connect the drives and boot to your USB flash drive.    As long as UnRAID "sees" all of the drives in the array, it will start just fine.

So unraid doesn't go by the "drive letter" and it goes by the serial number?

I mean I have a handfull of drives connected to the mobo and then a handfull connected to the 2 raid cards.
