  1. I'm running two Supermicro 8-Port SAS/SATA Card - (AOC-SASLP-MV8) for a 15 HDD bay Unraid server at the moment. I want to put a GPU in the PCIEx16 slot so I only have room for one of these cards.

I've got 11 HDDs right now so I'm using 8 ports on the SAS card plus 3 SATA ports on the motherboard. I an probably continue like this for a few years, to be honest.

I'm thinking about how best to go forward. I only really use about 2-3 drives at any given time.

So my options are to look around for two 8 port SAS HBA thats PCIE x1  (if it exists) or a 16 port SAS HBA on PCIE x4 or x8. Gen 3 PCIE x1 seems to have a max throughput of 1GB/s which should? be fine for 2-3 drives at full R/W speeds. I doubt there would be a quality chipset or if this even exists.

Any suggestions are welcome. I'm not sure that running through the 3 SATA ports on the motherboard + 8 ports on the current expansion card is a good config.

  2. I'm having a QUIC issue where it constantly goes to misconfigured. I've checked the network gear and port forwarding is correct. Sometimes when I restart the Storj docker it works for minutes or hours then it goes out again. I'm not sure exactly what's happening but when I look in the docker tab I notice the Port Mappings (App to Host) "unknown IP:28967 <-> local ip:28967" I assume the unknown IP should be my WAN IP?

  3. I'm trying to set up a user that will have read only permissions. For some reason the only options available are R/W and I can not figure out how to change that.

The share is public - maybe that's why.

I see a private share with read only access.

Any tips would be great. Thanks

I have a stack of 24 ssd that were part of a linux array that I'm pre-clearing.

I figure this would be a good time to switch from the preclear plugin to UD w/UD prelear to test out.

Uninstalled precleared, installed UD and put in SSD and it show "There are no disks that can be precleared."

So normal preclear plugin normally would work fine as it doesn't care what was on the disk before.

UD Preclear wont touch it because it sees it was part of a raid and has existing filesystem as you noted above.

So installed UD+, and nuke partition on the disk and now I see I can preclear it.

So had to install UD, UD Preclear, UD+ to be able to preclear a drive.

Can we make it so the user doesn't need to install UD+ to nuke the drive partition in order to preclear a drive?

Holy crap, thanks for that. I would not have figured out the magic spell otherwise.

  5. For sure, I just wanted to make sure Shares were the best way to proceed. My NAS uses pools for essentially the same thing as unraid uses shares.

Update is essentially complete. I just have to go down the high water, most free, fill up rabbit hole again.

  6. I've got one cache drive in XFX and has about 1.08 GB used. Disk 1 is in BTRFS and using 3.7MB and the other disks are in XFS using 27.9GB. I'm just surprised by that.

I currently have no shares set up and no pools other than the cache drive.

I've redone this box in an effort to set it up more effectively. Are you saying if I wanted a directory that stored large amounts of data it's better to set it up as a pool or a share?

  7. I've been an unraid user for the past 7-8 years and it's typically run quite well. I've updated my old core2duo machine to the following:

    i3-10100 cpu

    Gigabyte z590 ud ac motherboard

    32gb ram

    Same Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 x2

    15 SATA bays

Now, I'm having a massive issue configuring the motherboard to boot from the Unraid USB. I've tried legacy support but nothing is successful so far. Do I need to focus on anything regarding the Unraid USB drive or is it all motherboard BIOS specific?
