  1. Just come to check my server and disk 11 is offline and being emulated. Can anyone check through my diagnostics and check to see if the drive is dead? Before I try a reboot and whatnot... tower-diagnostics-20211002-0117.zip
  2. Awhile back I downloaded steamcache, which I've been using for awhile but no longer use. I've deleted the docker, but now when I try to delete the share I can't as it isn't empty. I can't delete delete the files through Windows as I don't have permissions. How do I get around this?
  3. Got it all set up and working, but I'm having issues with slow speeds at the moment. With the very first Steam game I downloaded/deleted/downloaded, it was very small, about 600MB. I was getting around 55MBs at peak, but, it started slower and then gradually increased, it was downloaded within seconds. Since then I seem to be maxing out at about 15/20MBs. (My internet for comparison is about 30/35Mbps, or about 4MBs). Any idea what the issue may be? I have 20x4TB Seagate drives. A 1TB cache drive. And also a 1TB SSD (that I install apps/dockers too). I just used the default options when installing the docker, and I believe that points to the array. So the logs are on the array and not the SSD. Could that be an issue? Specs wise, I have a 'Xeon E3-1240 V3' and 8GB of RAM (500MB allocated to the docker). Other dockers, are Sabnzb (not been in use when I was testing this), Plex (also wasn't being used), along with Radarr, Sonarr and Plexpy.
  4. Rebooted, it can do pull a smart report. Currently got a red X at the side of disk 10. tower-diagnostics-20180407-1445.zip
  5. Seem to have pinpointed when it happened: First line: Mar 28 20:40:42 Tower kernel: sas: Enter sas_scsi_recover_host busy: 7 failed: 7 syslog.txt
  6. I almost always seem to worry whenever this has happened in the past. Done stupid stuff like turn the computer off and pull the drive etc, start new config... Anyway, servers still running. Been up and running for about 98 days as it stands. What steps do I need to take now? Looking at the smart self test, I see to get the response: " smartctl 6.5 2016-05-07 r4318 [x86_64-linux-4.9.30-unRAID] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-16, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org Short INQUIRY response, skip product id A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T permissive' options. "
  7. I have 20 HDDs in my server and my settings are currently set to spin down after 4 hours of inactivity. But my HDDs are constantly spun up. Which is fairly annoying because as things stand my server is in my bedroom, and the case I have is prone to rattle. Fairly sure it isn't a problem with Unraid itself, it'll be one of my apps that I use, I just don't know which one and how to fix it. In addition to the 20 HDDs, I have a mechanical cache drive. And a 'unnasigned' SSD drive, which is what I use to instal apps to and download to. The apps I'm using are Plex, PlexPy (only recently installed this, issue was from before), Radarr, Sonarr and Sab. Any suggestions?
  8. I think the issue that I'm having is I'm not able to create a share on an unmanaged device. I've downloaded the 'Unassigned Devices' plugin to try fix this issue. But, I'm still unable to create an /appdata folder on there. And therefore can't install Plex on the unmanaged device.
  9. So, my motherboard died on me, I sent it off for a replacement. Did a fresh new install of Unraid on the same USB to start from scratch. Replacement motherboard came yesterday, created the array (same parity and data). I was using a 1TB SSD for cache, but I figured there's little point, and just got a new mechanical for that job and I was planning to instal Plex on the unmanaged SSD that I have. But, it looks like things have changed since I last set this up. It looks like I now have four additional directories added to the array by default, appdata, domains, isos and system. How do I install the docker image, and appdata on to an unmanaged device?
  10. Ah, I was drunk when I wrote this up. I like the idea of having a fully functional OS, not that I need it. I just like the idea... But, I've changed my mind, sort of. I wouldn't want to split the cores, doing so will decrease performance for Plex. Which, I don't want to do. So... I currently have a HTPC using some low power i7 in a fanless chassis, it's a few generations old. Doesn't support 4K. Unless I put in a GPU, which would mean a new case, power supply and then it wouldn't be fanless anymore. Essentially when I get around to buying a 4K TV, it'll become redundant. So I think I'm going to just use that as a separate server. When I'm downloading with Sabnzb at the minute, if it's Unraring a large file it'll slow down Plex (playback is normally fine, it's just navigating the menus slows down to a halt). I'm going to be downloading 4K, files can be 80GB+ for a remux, so I've wanted to separate the two for awhile. Just need to figure out temp storage now though for the temp downloads before everything is copied to the Unraid server. A friend built it, and I bought it from him when he had no use for it. I'm sure it only has a 250GB SSD.
  11. Sorry if this isn't in the right section. I have a few questions. I'm happy with Unraid, the system is great, the Dockers are all I need (Plex, Sab, Coach and Sonar/Sickbeard). But everytime I get to rebuilding a server/a new build, I always have Windows on my mind. A fully functional OS. So for the first time, I'm considering using a VM and having the best of both worlds. The specs for my build are a E3-1240 v3 and 8GB of RAM. I have a few questions. But first my config, 20x4TB HDDs. 1TB mechanical cache (that I am planning to use ONLY for cache). And a 1TB SSD. 1 - If I install a VM, where could I install it? I'm hoping that my cache, would be just that. Cache and nothing else on it. The SSD I was planning to use just for Plex data, however now I'm considering a VM, I guess it'd make sense to install it on there. Or would the VM go on to the array? 2 - How to split the cores... The biggest downside for me would be making Plex lose a quarter of it's performance. My Upload speed at the moment is too poor for that to even matter, however in the future I do plan to move and that will become more of an issue. One thing I have never liked is when Sabnzb will be Unraring a file, it seems to slow down Plex. A lot. If I'm trying to navigate Plex and Sab is unraring a 40GB file, Plex will become slow, for a long time. So, would it be better to have Plex on Unraid with 3 cores with Sab on the VM, or would it be better being on the VM and having Sab on Unraid? 3 - Sab performance on 1 core. So, downloading a 40GB Blu Ray is great, but when I download and then Unrar it, it'll take awhile to unrar. (Never actually sat and watched how long). How long would it take to unrar a 40-80GB file on one core? 4 - RAM. Simple enough. I have 8GB. If I VM, will I need more?
  12. Yeah, I'm running Sickbeard as a docker. That's all automated. I'm running coach as a docker, but that isn't automated. I just use it to keep track of films, I manually 'process' them myself.
  13. Okay, so I have a few questions here. My onboard SAS died on my a few weeks ago, I bought a cheap AOC-SASLP-MV8 from eBay to try get things back online, and I ended up doing a new configuration setting it up for some reason and it turned out of the HDDs died. Lost that data... Not too much of an issue, everything was replaceable. In the process of sorting out an RMA another HDD died on me (damn 3TB Seagates). Then I got the idea to just upgrade my server. Sent the motherboard off for repair, should be back soon, bought a new case and 13 more HDDs to add to the 7 working ones I have. I'd been using a 1TB Samsung Evo as the cache drive, but thinking about it, I was writing everything I downloaded to it so many times. I was using Sab, so it would download the file, unrar it, send it to Coach/Sickbeard to post process and then it'd write it back to the array. So that's three times, maybe even four (not sure if it has to rewrite sending it from appdata to my seperate 'downloads' share I had). So I've bought myself a 2.5" Seagate drive that I'm planning to use only for cache. That leaves me with the issue of where to install dockers. I run Plex, and I found running Plex from the SSD sped things up a lot. Whilst I was using a mechanical drive at one point for cache, if Sab was Unraring a 40GB file, Plex would become almost unresponsive. It was so slow, sometimes throwing up errors about connection etc... Installing it on an SSD seemed to sort this issue out. So I'd still like Plex to run off my SSD. So... firstly. Where should I install the Docker virtual disk? I was running the 'unassigned devices' plugin I believe it was called. If I use this again, will I be able to install the Docker virtual disk to an unassigned device? As it isn't part of the array... If the above isn't possible, would I be able to put the virtual disk on another drive (the mechanical cache) but install Plex to the unassigned SSD? A couple of unrelated questions... I had Sickbeard set up to autodownload. Which is great, but with Coach I didn't. I'd prefer to find a movie download that I wanted to download rather than it be done automatically. So I found myself copying from the download share (which was on the cache drive), back to the array (which went back on to the cache drive), effectively halving the transfer speed. Is there a way to transfer data easily within Unraid, without needing transfer from the server, to my main PC back to the server again? I've considered setting up a VM just to do this, just so I could remote in to the VM and then transfer the data (wouldn't even know if that'd work like I wanted it to)... But, my server is more or less used only as a media server. I'd rather not lose one of my four cores to do this. And I guess my final question. I currently have 8GB of RAM installed in my server (2x4GBs). With the server being on 24/7, I found that my RAM usage would increase a lot, I never really looked in to what was causing it mind. But, after a fresh boot, from memory I might have been looking at say 20% RAM usage. Then I'd not look at Unraid for a month or two, get back to it and RAM usage is sitting at 60-70%. Obviously at 70%, it still isn't necessary to get more RAM. I've been using Sabnzb, Coach Potato, Sickbeard (probably change that to Sonarr) and Plex at the moment. Don't really use anything else, although, I would like room for more in the future, that is if any future Dockers are available that I'm interested in. So, 16GB of RAM, do you think I should buy it (well another 2x4GB of the same RAM?). I think that's all for now.
  14. I tried looking in the PSU thread sticked on this page. But the recommendations on there seem a little outdated. Could anyone recommend a 850w single rail PSU? Hopefully planning to spend around £150 or less.
