  1. Hi Frank, Thanks for the reply. Had a quick look on my backup. Doesn't seem to be anything there that I can see, in which identifies the disks separately. I might have to do as you suggested in the 3rd step. I can identify the cache and the new drive as they are smaller than the others. Good point with regards to adding another drive. I figured it would be ok, as I could identify it immediately and it was smaller than the others. But I'll disconnect it until I have the rest sorted. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers, Morten
  2. Thanks Johnathan and Frank for your replies. Its turned into a right mission this has. If I had known now, the issues I'd be having, I would have left it all alone. OK, so I made a backup of my current USB device. Remade it using the creator tool. NOTHING. Decided to use a NEW USB and left everything in the creator tool as default and BOOM, it worked. So then I took that USB device and copied over the previous config and NOTHING again. Reformatted the USB again, and I have it working. I tried the config again and again, with no luck. So I reregistered the new USB device, and I'll just set the dockers etc up again. No big deal there. So, now I'm at the stage of assigning the drives to their locations. All drives showed up as unassigned. I only had 1 PARITY disk, and 1 Cache disk. The rest were data drives. Actually, I added another drive today, as I had 1 lying about. So how do I assign these now??? Thanks again for the help. Cheers, Morten
  3. Also, just confirming that all the data on these drives will be intact? All I'm trying to do is to make a new USB, and then continue where I left off.
  4. So I think I'll start fresh. I read on the Unraid documentation that I need to make sure that the drives are registered in the same sequence it was located beforehand. I have pulled all the drives out, on the rebuild, so I have no idea which drive was where.... The documentation says to report here to find out how to do that.... So my question now is... How do I do that Many thanks all. Kind regards, Morten
  5. Hi guys, Many thanks for the replies. Hmmmm, this is interesting, As it's been working flawlessly since day one. All I've done in the meantime, was to stop the array, then a shutdown. So basically, something weird has happened the moment I put it into the new build. Chkdsk found no problems. Should I make a new USB drive for Unraid? Many thanks, Morten
  6. OK... so not a great result. Frank, I did as you mentioned above and I got the following screen. Also, NO log file was produced. I have included 2 pictures. 1 from the server after I typed Diagnostics, and the second is from the USB after I removed it to find the log file.
  7. Thanks Frank, I'll sort that asap. Just cooking dinner atm. Be right back.... with that file. Thanks for the swift reply.
  8. Hi all, I want to apologize in advance if this has already been covered. First of all, a little about my setup..... I have been running Unraid for many years now. Zero issues. I love it. I use it mainly for backing up information from various computers, media server, VM's. I was running all of this on a very basic system. However, I have recently updated my main PC, so I decided to move the CPU, RAM from my old gaming PC to the Unraid setup. This required that I replace the MB, as the socket type wasn't the same as I had been using on my previous Unraid setup. The problem (which I only found out after assembling the new computer) is that the replacement MB does not have a VGA out. The MB I chose was this... Asrock X99E-ITX/ac. I chose this as it was the only one I could get my hands on, with a 2011V3 socket. It has 1 expansion slot, which I use with a SATA expansion card, as I needed more than the MB has. I am fortunate that I have a VGA ribbon, so I disconnected the SATA card, and plugged in the rbbon, which I then attached my a graphics card I had lying about. All good. I entered the BIOS. I set all the things I needed and hit the save and exit. At this point I left the GPU connected to make sure all was well with the boot. The system rebooted fine and I got the Unraid boot loader. I let it go through to the headless boot, and it booted to the login prompt. At this point, I went to my Ubiquiti setup to see what IP address the server had been given. Previously I had given it a static IP address so I could access it anytime without needing to find out it's location. Here's where it all got hard for my knowledge..... No matter what I tried, I could not access the web gui. I tried typing the IP address that I saw on both the Unraid login prompt (The one stated above.. IP4), and the one I got from my Unifi Setup. Nothing gave me a chance to login. I did some reading on the forums and I saw some people were questioning how the Unraid server was connected, through switches etc. Mine was in fact at this point connected through 2 switches, as I was trying to test it in the living room before moving it to the study where it lives. Didn't change a thing. So my issues are these.... 1. How can I access the GUI? Does my previous USB Drive need to be updated??? 2. With this board having no VGA out, is there a way to force a USB boot, OTHER than the BIOS to boot to it. The reason I ask this is, as soon as I plug in the other SATA drives, the BIOS seems to change to these drives. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know we have some incredible minds on these forums. Thanking you in advance... Morten
  9. Legend.... Many thanks mate. Much appreciated!!!
  10. Many thanks for your reply Johnnie. I have started to move all the info on disk 1 to disk 3. It's taking a while. But that's of no concern. I purchased all 4 of those drives at the same time. They aren't even 2 years old yet. Thought the WD Reds would hold up a little better than that personally. I will go and grab a replacement tomorrow. Maybe even a second replacement so that I have one on hand in the event another decides to go. Just so I'm clear.... if this drive was to fail outright, if I connected a new drive to the array, the parity would recover the data on the failed disk??? Lastly, once I have copied over this data, to disable this hdd: I stop the array, I unassign it, Start the array, Stop the array, Pull out the defective disk and connect a new one, Assign the new drive to Disk 1 (Old drive) Start the array. Anything else required? Sorry for all the questions. This is the first time anything has happened to my array, so this is all a little foreign to me. Again, many thanks for your time. Kind regards, Morten
  11. Afternoon all, I have been running Unraid 6.X since it's release and I love it. Recently though I notice my Disk 1 showed some errors. I run a parity check every Sunday night and the last check was completed without errors. I ran the short SMART test on the disk in question and it passed. I ran the extended test, but it did not pass. It told me to view the error log. I downloaded the error log, which I have attached here and I have also included the Unraid Diagnostic report also. From what I can see, the last error was about 250-300 hours ago. Some info about the disk in question though... It has been the most used disk in my setup. I have 4 x WD 4TB Digital Reds in my build. 1 is Parity obviously, the other 3 with data on them. That said, disk 3 is completely empty at the moment. So my questions are this please: 1. Should I be worried about the Disk 1 with those error messages? 2. Should I move the data from disk 1 over to disk 3(empty disk) and perform a preclear on the drive with the errors? 3. If the preclear sorts out the disk.... how reliable will that disk be in the future? (I realise that is a hypothetical question - I'm more after your opinion. Should I simply bin the drive etc) Many thanks for your time guys. Much appreciated. Kind regards, Morten unraid_server-diagnostics-20170507-1208.zip unraid_server-smart-20170507-1216.zip
  12. Hi Steini84, I'll look into this as well. thanks. Mort
  13. So when you use it with your laptop, is livego installed on your laptop and you are actually running it on the laptop, or what? Still not entirely clear what you want. Do you want to plug your unRAID server into your TV? If so, then you might be able to get livego to run in a VM if you have a separate video card with HDMI in your server. Hi Trurl, Yes, the Livego.tv & Kodi is installed on my laptop at the moment. I select the channel I want, for example F1. Then I simply plug my laptop into my TV via a HDMI cable to watch it on the big screen. It works fine, but I'd love to find a way to do that, without using the laptop. ie: Using the unraid server. I think I might have to use the VM option. My MB has a free slot for a video card. It also has an onboard HDMI output which might work also, without using a videocard??? Cheers, Mort
  14. Hi all, Many thanks for the input. I already have Plex running on my machine, and it works great. I'm actually trying to get this to work on my TV... https://www.livego.tv/xbmc I can get it to work by plugging in my laptop to the TV via HDMI, but if I could access it somehow through my unRaid server, that would be the bomb. Basically I just want to turn my TV on, and have access to it, without plugging other devices in etc. I hope that makes sense. Kind regards, Mort
  15. Hi guys and Gals.... Just want to say, I've been running Unraid 6.* now for many months, and I simply love it... brilliant. I was hoping to pick the brains of all you clever people. I'm VERY new to Linus based programs and NAS devices. I basically want to use XBMC on my LG WEBOS type TV. I have done many searches, and I see that the developers of XBMC aren't going to make an app to use directly on the TV. However, the content I want to use is accessible via XBMC. So, my question is... I see I can download XBMC onto my unraid server. How do I get that XBMC interface onto my TV. I apologise in advance if this is a really simple and silly question. Again, I don't have much experience with this type of thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Mort

    Cache

Sweet.... makes sense. Many thanks Benni

    Cache

OK.... thanks itimpi, that sounds like what I expected. In the shares, if the cache box is set to 'use cache', then the drive will be used, provided there is space. Any overflow will be written/read from array. If the 'use only cache' is selected, then everything is written and read from that drive, correct?

    Cache

Hi guys, Just wanted to enquire about cache. More importantly, how does it interact with the array. My array is all set up now and working really well. I'm very happy with it. On my 'MAIN' tab of the Web GUI, I've noticed that my cache %'s never move at all. I have set up a shares for the cache. I've also enabled the cache only option to that share. But I just never, ever, see it working at all. I have included a photo for you to see what I mean. So my question is: 1. From everything I've read on the Limetech website, the cache is automatically used once you assign the cache drive. Am I reading that correctly? Have I skipped any settings? The read/writes show that it is literally inactive. I have only been using this server so far as a media device (plex) and it's working brilliantly. I have assigned the transcoding to be done in the /tmp folder, instead of the SSD. Is this why I'm seeing no activity on the SSD? Enjoy your weekend folks Kind regards, Morten
  19. I've done as the instructions instructed, but i'm still noticing my CPU doing all the work. What am I missing?
  20. It brought me to the same page Squid.
  21. Sweet. Did a system reset and got the last of the folders to allow me to copy/delete etc. All good. My parity disk is still running at the moment. Should I wait for that to finish before copying all my files over? Many thanks again for all your help guys.... Cheers, Morten
  22. Well, well, well..... I did as you mentioned. in IE. Got the share map to show itself. I managed to map the 2 shares I need. I managed to change the permissions on 1 of the folders. The other keeps giving me grief. But this is very good progress. haha. I've been at this, searching google all night. Many thanks Squid. I owe you big time. Cheers, Morten
  23. I'll try Squid.... I haven't managed to have any success with using the \\'name' method. I was only able to access the Web GUI from the IP Address. I'll keep trying. Cheers, Morten
  24. Done... Still can't see anything related to unRaid :'(
  25. Hi Gundamguy, Many thanks for your reply. This is actually the problem I have. My PC isn't 'seeing' the unRaid tower. It's only seeing the Plex media network location. I haven't tried networking before so I'm not sure if it's a simple problem or task like mapping etc. Again, I've never needed to do that in my previous computing experience, so this is all new to me. I'm trying to find out how to get my computer to 'see' the server itself, so I can copy all my media to the 'shares' that I have created. Yep, I've read the media names/structures article. I actually have the whole plex system sorted. It's just getting my files from my PC to my unRaid. Cheers, Morten
