  1. Anyone have any advice on how to enable Nvdia gpu transcode on plex in in this container? All the resources I can find reference linuxserver's image, which has different variables in the template.

I have included --runtime=nvidia in extra parameters.

can I just create the additional variables in the template for gpuid etc? Will that just work?

  2. For the past few months Ive been experiencing crashes. I figured out that I had a bad stick of RAM and have removed that and run memchecks on the other sticks and everything checks out fine. However my server is still crashing this time harder than before--even the command line disappears on the direct attached monitor.

I have started receiving MCEs and am posting my diagnostics in hopes that someone can provide some insight.

    Thanks!

  3. Recently encountered the following error:      Error parsing column 42 (MediaInfo={ "rawStreamData":...

Attempted to restore from a CA backup with no success. Same error. Got pissed and nuked radarr, config, database and all to start from scratch. Lo and behold, my error is back after fewer than 3 days of normal running.

Can anyone lend assistance? debug attached.

  4. Yeah there are a couple listed in CA. The one maintained by @peter_sm hasn’t been updated since 11/19. I’ve reached out to them to make sure that it’s still being maintained, but haven’t gotten a reply.

im just looking to see what people recommend.

  5. I'm working on setting up a remote Unraid server for backups of my home Unraid system. I run OpenVPN-as on an Ubuntu machine on my local network. I'm looking for recommendations for the best way to install an OpenVPN client on my remote box.

    Thanks for any help.

  6. I'm setting up a pentesting lab and need to stand up several VMs in an AD domain. I want these to be on a separate network from my primary, so I have installed a PCIe NIC and have it available to pass through to my VMs for attaching to a separate router. Im not sure how I can get all of my VMs to share the NIC, much in the same way they share a single physical connection in unraid. When I attempt to start more than one VM using the NIC, I [obviously] get the error saying that the NIC is already in use.

    Any help would be great.

Nearly three years? AMD only launched Ryzen 7 on 2 March 2017. Either way, that's a very early Ryzen 1700X you're using, so how are you mitigating its tendency to lock up when idling? I don't see either the boot option tweak or the go file tweak in your diagnostics so maybe you've disable C6 state in your BIOS or you've configured normal power idle instead of the default low power idle? Perhaps after a recent BIOS update you forgot to re-select this particular customisation.

Thanks for the feed back all! John_M, can you point me to the text for that go file tweak? I cant seem to find it. Not 6 months ago I couldnt avoid it, but now that I need it... As an update, Ive modified the Power Supply Idle Control, as this was apparently introduced in a recent BIOS as a way to avoid disabling C6 altogether. If this doesnt work, Im going to disable C6 in the bios. If that doesnt work, Im going to use the go file tweak. If that doesnt work I will investigate disabling rcu callbacks per spaceinvaderone's video.

If any of this sounds like a garbage plan, let me know.

    Thanks

You have virtualisation support disabled in your BIOS, which is why kvm_amd can't load and your VMs won't work. That is the default in the ASRock BIOS, which suggests that the defaults have been restored or the CMOS has been corrupted. Look for SVM (secure virtual machine, a.k.a. AMD-V) and enable it.

Mar 5 12:47:23 Tower kernel: kvm: disabled by bios
Mar 5 12:47:23 Tower root: modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'kvm_amd': Operation not supported

To your first post, 2 years then. I couldnt remember when it was released, but it was soon after initial release that I purchased the CPU. Also, Ive never experienced instability issues with this system and thus never disabled C6 or effected the boot options tweak or the go file tweak.

Yes Ive simply reset CMOS and havent yet re-enabled virtualization. Ive been focused on just getting the system stable as-is.

  9. Thanks for the response. Ive actually run a memory test and everything was fine. I will try uninstalling those plugins again...and then Safe Mode.

If I dont have any issues in Safe Mode, what is that telling me? How should I proceed from there?

Additionally, Ive attached an image of the most recent lockup from just a few minutes ago.

Hello all, I am at my wit's end with this issue. I have been running my current setup for nearly 3 years without a hiccup but starting in January I started experiencing odd behavior. The first sign on something amiss was my server froze, upon restart all of my dockers and VMs were gone. It ran fine for a few weeks until seemingly out of the blue it began freezing every 12 hours or so. I have a monitor and keyboard attached but the terminal was completely unresponsive. I restart and enter GUI mode to see if I can gather more info or if I'm given a warning before freezing, but get nothing. The GUI freezes completely. No keyboard or mouse input accepted. Fix Common Problems reports nothing.

Since then, the following actions have been taken with no improvement in outcome:

    1. Uninstalled all VMs, docker containers, and plugins -- system still froze

    2. Reinstalled OS -- system still froze

    3. Reinstalled all SATA devices -- system still froze

Attached to this post is a .zip containing diagnostics and an image of the syslog when the system was frozen. Please feel free to let me know if additional information is required.

AND THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP. I'm at the end of my rope with this.

I just had to swap a drive on unRAID and am seeing a weird issue with Plex. I am running the latest unRAID and PLEX docker.

I typically use a Shield TV Client but am seeing the issue on web browsers and Plex Media player too.

A small number of TV shows will no longer play - when I start them - they just spin - nothing plays.

The same shows play fine on KODI.

Any ideas on what could be wrong or how I can debug to narrow down the issue? Thanks!

I’m experiencing a similar issue.  On all of my clients (chromecast, iOS, and tv app) a certain number of shows will no longer play successfully. I’m most cases, I’ll get 5-10 minutes in until the stream hangs up and acts like it’s buffering (even on direct stream) and never successfully resumes. No warning about server or connection speed. No eventual time-out.

I’ve read a recommendation that one should explicitly specify a transcode dir on the cache, but it’s been my understanding that plex automatically transcodes on the cache if the app and sys shares are cache only. Also, linuxserver’s repo doesn’t provide a path for a /transcode dir.

After running plexmediaserver for about two years it now recently started to stutter a lot when showing movies. I use my plex app on my samsung tv to watch the movies. After I turn on a movie it takes about 2 sek and it start to flicker and stutter. I have no idea what is wrong. I do not know a lot about this so I just installed the docker, mapped the movie directory and everything have been going great after that.

I have made no changes before the stuttering started.

I have tried direct play, direct streaming and transcode. Nothing changes. I have manually tried to set the buffer size but makes no difference.

As mentioned I have not changed any settings before this happen. Have there been any updates that has caused some issues regarding the transfer that I have not seen?

Please help. My plex server is useless at the moment:(

Im having this issue too. The flickering and stuttering happens no matter which player I use (web, chromecast, tv app).  If anyone has any resources, please share.

  13. I've just reinstalled Linuxserver's plex docker after my server randomly decided to delete all of my dockers and vms; however, I cant seem to remember what I should do with the "transcoder temporary directory" setting. By default it's blank, but I cant find anything  telling me where the default location is. Does anyone know where the default transcoder directory is????

I want to make sure that my transcoder directory is on my SSD cache.

No, what you are doing is giving the entire unpartitioned drive to the VM. You need to format the disk and mount it so it has a path in /mnt/disks, then you can assign whatever size vdisk you want and point it at /mnt/disks/mountpoint/VM/vdisk1.img. Assuming you use a format type for the device that supports sparse files, the actual space occupied by the vdisk will only be what the VM actually allocates, however it will appear to be whatever size you tell it. You could tell it to put 4 200GB vdisks in 250GB of space, and it will work until any combination of VM's tried to use more than 250GB total and caused one or more vdisk files to become corrupt.

Ok. So I guess what I need to do is figure out how to partition the drive. The disk is formatted in XFS, but Im still not given the option to choose a vdisk size. This is the manual location Im typing into the vdisk location option.

Simplest method for you is probably going to be formatting the drive using the destructive mode of UD and using the space for as many vdisk files as you wish.

That's what Ive done, however, when I manually set my vdisks to be on my unassigned device, the vdisk size option goes away. So the vdisk just occupies the entire unassigned device, instead of a smaller partition.

I guess my question is whether space is actually dynamically allocated to a vdisk in this situation, or will a single vdisk take the whole 250G to itself and prevent any other vdisks from being assigned to that drive?

Hey, just curious on how people are setting up their VM's in regard to the image files.

I currently have two SSD's out of my array, mounted with SNAP, and I have one VM per SSD.  Is anyone running multiple VM's off of a single SSD? How is the performance?  Is anyone running VM's off of their array?  I would think this would be a major degradation in performance with having to keep parity, and obviously, working off HDD since SSD's aren't supported in the array yet..

Im pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to host multiple VMs on a single unassigned SSD. Each time I try to create a VM, it wants to use the entire disk, leaving nothing available for other VMs. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
