  1. I have a few shares in my unraid server. Some dont let me delete files. I am using windows 10 to access my shares.

    I get an error saying

    "Folder Access Denied.

You require permission from Tower\Nobody to make changes to this folder"

I dont have a user named nobody and the user that i am accessing the share with has both read write permissions on it.

    What could be the problem?

  2. Thanks Bonienl for all your help,

I restarted the server and was able to ping the Gateway. After getting to that point, internet was still not working and i checked my firewall rules in the router and there was a error on my side so i fixed that and now internet is working fine.

So basically the first point you told me about having internet on eth0 was the main thing.

So thanks again for all your help.

  3. Basically in the WebGui of Unraid in the network settings page i dont have any duplicate network assignments.

Each Eth interface has its own static ip.

I doubled to check the cabling just incase i didnt have some cables attached to the same switch and checked for looping.

  4. Ok

So i made the sure that eth0 has a internet connection. I gave it a static ip of 192.168.26.15

And in the gateway section i add the ip of my router which is 192.168.26.1

When i open a terminal window and do a ping on the Gateway ip i get destination host unreachable.

But i am able to ping the ip of eth0 from other computers on my network so connectivity seems to be ok. But for some reason Unraid is not able to ping the router, so it cant get to the internet.

  5. Hello,

I have 3 Nics on my Unraid Server.

    Nic1 = 192.168.25.0/24

    Nic2 = 192.168.26.0/24

    Nic3=192.168.27.0/24

Each Nic has a static IP and all 3 networks are separate from each other.

    Internet connection is on Nic2.

I am able to open the WebGui from other pcs on each network. So i am able to copy and add data from all the 3 nic networks.

The problem is i am not able to access the internet from Unraid Server, so i can't do OS updates and can't install plugins, etc.

So, how do i make the unraid server access the Internet from Nic2?

    I am running Unraid 6.5.1

  6. Thanks for the advice,

Can someone point me to or explain network settings for Virtual Machines in Unraid. I have experience in Hyper-V.

Basically if my Unraid Server ip is 192.168.1.10 and i want my VM to get an ip from my router in the same series (192.168.1.XX) what settings should i have in the Unraid Network Settings.

When i had bridging and bonding off my vm was getting an ip address on a different subnet then what my unraid server is set to.

  7. I had one ethernet port connected to my Unraid server and bonding and Bridging were set to NO and had a static ip on that interface.

Then i made a VM for the first time and changed that Interface to Enable Bridging to Yes and selected itself as the Bridging interface.

As soon as i pressed apply then i lost access to the browser interface for the server.

Now i can't even ping the server on the ip that it was set to before i made the changes.

Any way i can attach a monitor and keyboard and revert the changes?

Please someone help me fix this.

  8. I have a new unraid server setup up fresh with 6.4.1.

I have 2 network interfaces, One is a Mellanox Connectx-2 card and the other is an onboard intel NIC.

I have both interfaces setup with static ip's and NO bonding and NO bridging.

The problem is every once in a while both network cards stop responding and i can;t even ping them.

So i have to take the cables out and plug them back in and then i can access the server.

So what could be the cause?

  9. Actually, its very rare that ransomware just gets into the network on its own, its mostly when a user actually visits a malicious site or downloads something and then opens it.

Also there are only a few select computers that have internet access and we have an enterprise firewall. So for my situation i think its very little risk.

  10. Can someone please help me with writing scripts to start and stop an array on schedule.

I understand the while the backup is going on the server is exposed to the risk of ransomware or viruses but an overnight backup when no users are using the network mitigates most of that risk. Its still better than being exposed for 24 hours compared to 2 hours a day.

  11. Hey,

I want to start and stop the array on a fix schedule. Is there a way to do this in Unraid?

I want the server to stay powered on as this reduces complexity of the solution.

Basically i have setup a Unraid server as a data backup server. I have nightly backups going to it but other than those few hours i want the array to be turned off.

The reason for all this is i want to protect the server (data) from ransomware and other virus attacks.

I am open to better ideas.

  12. OK,

so i am new to Unraid but i think i am missing something.

I thought the cache pool was only for writing data. So does it cache data from storage or only reads back data that is in the write cache?

So if the write cache is flushed to storage then there will be no read performance benefits right?

  13. Hey
I will be building a UNRAID Server with 12 x 10TB drives with 2 drives for Parity

The problem is the country that i am in has many power outages, i have a UPS but sometimes the power is out for so long that the UPS wont last.
So the question is if the Unraid server shuts down ungracefully will i have data loss or corruption issues or can the Unraid OS handle ungracefully shut downs?
