  1. Well hidden deep inside the settings I did find a local lan traffic setting which solved the problem Thank you Nuhll!, should of looked for that before but I figured it was something misconfigured on the unraid side.
  2. Huh, strange, I mean when I access my drive normally I'm not sending out a packet to the internet, just on my own domain, but what I think happens and what really happens are two different things obviously.
  3. I should add that we can access the drives from anywhere but the computer that is connected to the VPN fine, my HTPC still streams movies and what not but I can't get to the drives through windows any longer, they get red X's on them until I quit the vpn.
  4. I got a VPN service (PIA) when I connect I can no longer get to my network drives until I turn off the VPN. Any clues as to why this happens? Unraid is on my side of the network not sure why the VPN would interfere? Thanks.
  5. And the mover is actually moving to disk 2, that seems to have done it thank you!
  6. Okay I'll make that change, just confuses me I thought the purpose of high-water was to fill each disk up equally, in my case it seems to be ignoring those 2 disks.
  7. Oh and @doit, on your advice I have set the enable disk shares to Auto.
  8. How it worked before, was the cache stored the file until the mover activated at night, which it's set to 340am, emptying the cache disk. I want the cache to cache for faster downloads and offload the slower parity portion of it when I'm sleeping. @doitmyselftoo No I'm seeing zero files on Disk 2 and Disk 3, Disk 1 and 4 between them have about 70 gb left. I've written lots of gb to the disks before I noticed it and it should have spread those files around (assumption). Disk 1 & 4 has file directories like Media, Music, etc, but Disk 2 & 3 are completely blank no file structure at all. @itmpi Isn't 2000000 high enough I believe that was the guide setting for 2tb but it's been a long time since I set up unraid. What should I use for split-level setting? I just applied what the guide recommended, if I recall correctly I wanted a single movie folder to not be split up among disks, but I've created many new movies since then and I assumed it would spread the wealth? Btw I can physically move files to Disks 2 and 3, they copy just fine but the mover is apparently ignoring all the disks, everything I thought I was sending to the disks for last couple months is still on the cache drive, I've manually invoked the mover and does nothing. /shrug tower-diagnostics-20180706-0901.zip
  9. I had moved files around to make an empty disk in order to convert to xfs, which worked fine or so I thought. But weeks later I happened to notice my cache disk has 124 gig on it, and 2 of my 4 disks have no files at all, and no directory either. I would have expected to see my media/movies and /tv shows on there but they are blank. So they show as part of the array but are not being allocated anything at all. Before the xfs conversion I upgraded to a larger parity drive, those are the only two changes I have made. What have I done wrong? What could I post to help someone help me? Thank you!!
  10. Frank, I think I will buy that card you recommended I was curious though are transfers just as fast through PCIe as the onboard controllers?
  11. Yes with my newly refreshed account I went and spent that and more for a amazon fulfilled disk, I forgot to check the manufacture date on the suspicious drive I'll check it next time I open it up I'm curious too. I just left the suspicious one in the array cuz why not, may as well eek out what life I can get from it.
  12. It's all up and running and my blood pressure is back to normal I'm all out of free SATA connections on my board now, but I'll post in hardware on recommendations after searching thanks guys.
  13. It started a parity sync which was expected but can I stop it and do the permissions tool now and sync later?
  14. Upgrading from 4.7 to 6 and I'm a nervous nelly right now. I'm going down the wiki instructions, I have unraid running, can see the new GUI, I have assigned my parity and data drives, and the array is still stopped. Do I start the Array, THEN do the new permissions tool, or do the permissions tool now before starting the array.
  15. I've heard you can reset everything to zero except the self-test timer, which is showing 21,000 hours? Anyways I sent that SMART report to the seller with a WTH note in it, they promptly sent me all my money back, said I could keep the drive, and they have no idea what happened. /shrug
  16. I am not an expert but reading my preclear report this brand new drive appears to be used to me, can anyone confirm? See attached for entire preclear report. 17. Thanks all of you, I did purchase a 2TB drive just to make the array healthy, then will do the upgrade in unraid version to 6 i believe it's at now, and replace the parity drive I just installed with a 4TB drive, then start replacing future unhealthy data drives with 4TB versions.
  18. Sorry just meant if you search the forums there are quite a few instruction posts on replacing parity, they don't all follow the same exact step by step procedure, although ultimately they may all mean the same thing. I was just wary of following a parity replacement instruction set only to find out that that was for a different version.
  19. I am currently on version 4.7 and need to upgrade. But I also appear to need 1 or 2 disk replacements (see attached pic). Should I replace the parity drive with a precleared one and get it up and running on ver4.7 and THEN upgrade to V6? Also I have never replaced a drive on this system, it's ran for approximately 5 years flawlessly, so I am nervous as hell. Are there instructions to replace the parity drive for version 4.7 or are all the parity replacement instructions good for all versions.
  20. Does it still send info to the telnet screen when the main computer I am running putty on goes to sleep? I did discover the bios timings for the ram were set by the bios to 7-7-7-24 when the ram is rated for 9-9-9-24. I fixed that and ran memtest for 24 hours with no errors, possible source of the crash and shutdown? At any rate that is fixed now, we shall see.
  21. Another crash, this time I have been checking the syslog every day and night for unusual entries and had some errors. But searching on google for these doesn't seem to yield any definitive results. If someone in the know can look though and tell me if these point to anything I'd appreciate it. I blocked the section in question it's near the bottom of the syslog. This syslog was taken this morning, when I got back home at night the server was as usual completely shutdown and off. Thanks! syslog-2011-09-02.txt
  22. Thanks Jes that answers that question, I run headless so thats why I haven't seen that option.
  23. Server keeps crashing, is completely turned off when I discover it this way so no logs. It was once a month the last one occurred within a week of the previous crash now. My hardware is below: Motherboard: JetWay JHZ03-GT-V2-LF AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard Case: AZZA Helios 910 Black Japanese SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 4 Drives: 1 - Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARS 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive 2 - HITACHI Deskstar 5K3000 HDS5C3020ALA632 (0F12117) 2TB SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive Cache - older Hitachi 360GB Power Supply: CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply CPU: AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Processor SDX140HBGQBOX RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT Flashdrive: SanDisk Cruzer Blade 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model SDCZ50-004G-B35 Unraid: Version 4.7 Installed Packages: bwm-ng - Bandwidth Monitor NG (Next Generation), a live bandwidth monitor mail and ssmtp - Configure unRAID to be able to send e-mail notifications via the "mail" command. unRAID Status Alert sent hourly by e-mail Monthly Parity Check screen (screen manager with VT100/ANSI terminal emulation) I do have it setup to forward me alerts if any drives get overheated and never received any alerts, server sees relatively light use right now. Few questions: 1) Despite heavy searching I cannot find a way to automate the copy of the syslog every X hours to some place else so I can hopefully capture it failing. Does this not exist? Is the tail command only way to see the last few lines croaked out by the server? 2) I see memtest on the flash drive but how do I start it up and test the memory. Does the server need to be offline to test the memory? How long should I test the memory 24 hours minimum? If you are going to give me commands to start it using putty I need noob friendly commands =) 3) I included the last syslog I copied after it crashed last time and I got it back up after parity check. Anything in there suspicious? 4) I plan on pulling out one of the mem sticks and testing for awhile and see if it crashes if it does will put the other one in and take the old one out and try again. 5) What else should I be doing to try to track this down? Thanks for listening. syslog-2011-08-17.txt
