    To reach such a low power consumption you need a Corsair RM550x (2021). It has a new low power technology to be compatible to the new ATX12VO standard. Another option could be the Be Quiet Pure Power FM 11 550W. It costs less then the Corsair and adds only 1W.

     

    Note: Do not buy 11th or 12th gen. High power consumption and no Intel GVT-g support.

     

    Thanks for this!  I do prefer to buy new parts if possible.  But it if fits the bill I could always look at eBay.

     

    one question though - it looks like both of the boards you recommended are microATX, but the case I have (fractal Node 304) is MiniITX.

     

    Any recommendations for similar boards in the miniITX form factor?

    Gotcha.  Thank you!  From the sound of it I may go with something newer. Unfortunately I don’t think I k ow enough about them either :)  so many options!

    I will be using 6 drives and not super worried about watt-pinching.   Really just looking for something that is relatively low powered compared to my current setup (an old lime-tech md-100? Tower with 15 drives.).

     

    what CPU would you recommend for use with the Gigabyte C246N-WU2?

    I was looking at something like this for the motherboard:

    I currently have a very old, very large Unraid server with a bunch of old drives in it.  It works great but it is big and loud and draws a lot of power. Its one of the original Lime Tech towers with 15 drive bays.

     

    I would like to downsize a to a much smaller case and replace the drives with a fewer number of larger drives.  

     

    I ordered the Fractal Design Node 304 case and I am looking for recommendations on what mobo/cpu/ram to use.

     

    I would be using the server primarily for file storage and light Plex usage.

     

    any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

    when I try to update to 6.9.2, i see the following:

    i have tried several times with the same result.

     

    any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

     

     

    swapping out my flash drive

    Hi - I have a really old 512GB flash drive.  I am attempting to swap it out with a 4GB sandisk flash drive using the instructions found here:

    I ran the Unraid USB creator tool on the new flash drive from my Mac (running Big Sur).  It said it finished successfully.

     

    Then I shut down my unraid server and replaced the flash drive with the new one.   I booted the server back up and it says that the new flash drive is not a bootable drive.

     

    So i tried putting the flash drive back in the mac and running the make_bootable script.   That completed without any errors.   I put it back in the unraid server and tried to boot it up and again it said the drive is not bootable.

     

     Any ideas on why the flash drive is still not bootable and how to make it work?

    Thanks for the quick reply!   So if I went to tools > new config.  And I saved the parity drive then all other drives are currently unassigned. 
     

    So since I don’t know which slots each disk was assigned to, can I assign the disks to whatever slot I want and keep my data and user shares intact?

     

    are there any other steps I need to follow to ensure that parity is rebuilt and the user share still work if some of my disks get assigned to different slots(which they inevitably will)?

    this is great info.  I was lookign to take a drive out of my array which i dont use anymore and i followed these steps.  unfortunately my screenshot got corrupted somehow so I don't know which drives were in which slot.

     

    I did the tools > new confiuration and preserved the parity slot, but i don't know which drives were in which slots.

     

    it sounds like this shouldn't matter, but i just want to make sure before i reassign all the disks.

     

    how does that work?  if I have a user share that pulls from disk 1 and 3 for instance, but then i rebuild my config and the disks which were in slot 1 and 3 are not in slot 5 and 6 for instance, how would unraid know where to pull the dat for those user shares?

    thanks for the additional info!

    so i took a look at my syslog (attached) this morning and it looks like there may have ben a power issue with my UPS.

     

    I will keep monitoring to see if it happens again or if this was just a fluke.

     

    however, a few days ago i had installed user scripts plugin to do a daily scheduled reboot.   I have since uninstalled it, but i noticed in my log files, tons of entries saying:

    Jan 7 21:17:45 StorageTower root: error: /plugins/user.scripts/exec.php: wrong csrf_token

     

    any idea what that is or why that might be happening?

     

     

    also - i know my UPS is fairly old (Back-UPS RS 1500 LCD) but I replaces the batteries last year so I'm not sure why it would be failing.

     

    if I ned to replace my UPS, any recommendations for a decent one?

    thanks for the assistance!   I have enabled syslog server to see if can keep a history of the log files when it crashes.  thats an awesome feature!!  I'll see whgat that reveals.

     

    I have not tried pinging the server when it crashes.  it is unreachable via a web browser but i have not tried to ping it.

     

    I have not done a memtest lately.

     

    I do not have a keyboard and monitor attached generally but I can find one and attach it next time it happens too.

     

    I have had my server for a very long time.   what is the disadvantage to using ReiserFS, and how can i switch?

     

    how could I change my docker image?  where do I find that?

    I have been experiencing crashing at least once per day for a few months now.  Haven't had the chance to post until now.  I just use my server for file storage and plex mostly.   SO i usually notice something is wrong when i try to connect to plex and see that my library is offline.   Then i try to connect to the web interface of my server in a browser and it is unresponsive.

     

    the only thing I can do is to do a hard reboot.

     

    I have attached the system log.  Can anyone provide some insights as to what might be going on?

    ok so i just noticed that it says command failed when i try to add the paths for my content.  i think what happened was that I didnt have the leading slash on the path so it yelled at me telling em that it needed an absolute path.

    I actually tried installing the official plex docker, and after I did, it overwrote my linuxserver.io docker.  I only see one Plex Media Server docker in my list which is the official plex docker now.

     

    I edited that docker, adding a few additional folders for media, and after i hit submit, it churned for a bit and then when it returned to the list of dockers, plex is gone.

     

    kind of odd.
