  1. While troubleshooting the cache drive I unassigned the wrong one and wiped the drive. Possible to recover the data, but not much on it so ordered new SSD drives. I believe this is the solution. The drive is 5 years old and ran hot so failure was possible moreso. Will update this once up just making sure there is no other issues with updating to latest version of unraid.
  2. Thank you for your help. I will start over using what I've learned from you.

  4. Well, you burn and learn. Seems that info is gone. Thanks for your help. I have ordered new SSDs and will build the shares and dockers back up. Most of my info is on the array so shouldnt take me long. It taught me to make sure to review documentation and always do backups. What backup option covers shares including appdata? I thought I read flash in one place, perhaps an old thread. root@Blewstar:~# fdisk -1 /dec/nvme0n1 fdisk: invalid option -- '1' Try 'fdisk --help' for more information. root@Blewstar:~# fdisk -1 /dev/nvme0n1 fdisk: invalid option -- '1' Try 'fdisk --help' for more information. root@Blewstar:~# fdisk -1 /dev/nvme1n1 fdisk: invalid option -- '1' Try 'fdisk --help' for more information. root@Blewstar:~# fdisk help Welcome to fdisk (util-linux 2.38.1). 7. Hi, I have been troubleshooting shares that disappeared until rebooted. It turned out that one of the 2 cache drives was read only. While troubleshooting this I unassigned the drives while switching them. I did not format them, but followed information to remove and start array for unraid to forget then assign them. I am at a lost of how to restore them after several hours of reading forums. I have very little experience with unraid only setting up and forgetting until I updated from version 6.9.2 to current. Think that is what caused my drive to go out. Been chasing my tail ever since. Any help appreciated
  8. Thought I would update some information on this issue of what I have done so far. With a good friend of mine that is more knowledgable with unraid we started from scratch. 1. Made sure that the VM has the right binds set up. This also looked at the grouping without separating the gpu in its own group 2. Disabled vm and docker as well as services 3. Checked settings> fix common problems (app) for errors. Found several files on both the array and cache. Moved files to cache and deleted. There were versions of libvirt(spelling) on both. 4. Checked shares and noticed that appdata share was also being removed. 5. logs were checked, but for now doing the above and seeing if issue persist. 6. Scan fixed common problems and have a new error that will be next to look at. Error*** Unable to write to cacheDrive mounted read-only or completely full. Begin Investigation Here: I have a mirrored cache 1TB nvme drives. I am begginning to think that the primary nvme is not working(stuck in read only). My solution for this is to switch them on the motherboard. If the issue is resolved then the nvme needs to be replaced. Will wait for friend before doing this. The cache is not full from what I see so issue is the physical drive. Will update every 3 days or so blewstar-syslog-20231231-2232.zip
  9. Hello everyone, I made the update version from 6.92 to latest version. My VM is crashing and I have noticed that my "Domain Share" is being removed. However, I reboot and it comes back. I can use the VM for hours and then walk away and it crashes. When I try to start the VM before rebooting I received the errors internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor: 2023-12-26T20:43:57.775837Z qemu-system-x86_64: Could not open '/etc/libvirt/qemu/nvram/30595530-640e-414c-535d-3361c45c54a0_VARS-pure-efi.fd': Read-only file system The following error I just stayed at the log in screen: internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor: 2023-12-27T01:48:33.861571Z qemu-system-x86_64: Could not open '/etc/libvirt/qemu/nvram/30595530-640e-414c-535d-3361c45c54a0_VARS-pure-efi.fd': Read-only file system I believe this is refering to a full cache or disk. I really don't know how to properly read the storage to determine where I am having the problem. There was no issue before the update so scratching my head here. I have sinced removed all vm vdisk except the one I am using freeing up about 120 GB. The issue is still there. Could I ask the communitys help on what screen shots or tools I use to provide the information needed to troubleshoot this? I'm not sure if I use paint to copy the screen for main, domain, vm edit/xml etc... Thank you for any help!
  10. Hi, Seems I have made a mistake and not sure what the process is to correct it. I added a SSD Evo (unassigned) and thought I had tied it to my VM correctly. This SSD is storing games and want to keep it separate from the VM. For the last couple weeks my performance has suffered some. I looked in the VM and the SSD is a vdisk. I know unraid controls the vdisk which is not what I wanted to do. Steps i think I should take. 1. Copy data from SSD to array. 2. Nuke the SSD so can remount it (need to figure how I created a vdisk so don't do it again) 3. Do I remove the SSD from the VM by deleting the XML entry? Appreciate any help, Blewstar
  11. Hello, I have been trying to remove unallocated space from a VM using elevated command line. I am getting the error -bash: cd: Too many arguments. The directory I am trying to get to /mnt/user/domains/Windows 10 Virtual Desktop/ --- I can get to domains directory with no issue. I have tried quotes around windows 10 Virtual Desktop and spaces and anything else I can think of.... when I do list it shows as: Windows\ 10/ Windows\ 10\ Virtual\ Desktop/.... I tried under scores to tie the Windows 10 Virtual Desktop file name together, but no dice. Have little experience in file names and tried to find this in google. I have copy and pasted the list result and still get the same error. Am stuck, any ideas? With thanks
  12. Good Day, I have a logitech g910 orion spectrum keyboard and a g600 mmo mouse that I am trying to setup in win 10 vm. The system recognizes the mouse and the description is there, but keyboard is a generic "HID Keyboard Device" in device manager. Both work, but I can not get the logitech gaming software to apply changes to either. I have changed usb ports to a PCIe USB expansion card and is the same. Is there some compability issue or a trick I need to do? For instance, the default keys for the mouse works, but changing it to another key like F11 does not take affect. I have looked for this issue online and not coming up with anything solid. Thoughts? Suggestions? Appreciate any help
  13. ***Update*** Adding the SB Audigy Rx sound card and then loading drivers off the site I now have sound.
  14. Hi all, Think I have a good grasp on what I need from reading the pages here. Have a few questions to make sure though. I am looking at adding 8 SATA ports for expansion including one optical drive as my win 10 vm recognizes the optical drive, but crashes the vm when opening data disk. For instance installing audio drivers for an Audigy Rx sound card that was just installed. I will be using this optical drive for burning blu-ray for the plex server. After reading additional threads that the expansion resolved there issue. Currently I have just 2 4TB HGST with room to add 6 more so makes sense to get a card now for future growth. 1. Purchasing an LSI 9211-8i - does this come in IT mode? this IT mode removes the raid component correct? 2. When purchasing cables, do not get the ones that have the metal latches? Need the SATA end for HDD to be a 90 down. Could use recommendation here of which ones for the expansion board. 3. This board is plug-n-play? Does not matter if I need to configure it as long as I have directions to follow 4. Which vendor is recommended to avoid counterfeits? Rather pay more for quality than being cheap. 5. Anything else I need to know 6. Adding this to the pcie lanes impact the 16 lanes for the GPU? Would this be the right card wit IT already installed? https://www.amazon.com/LSI-Controller-LSI00301-9207-8i-Internal/dp/B008J49G9A/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= Thanks!
  15. Hi all, Shameless bump as last attempt for a solution to use onboard. I looked into the hardware recommendation for sound card and see Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy fx as an alternative. Since this is a gaming vm that may be a better choice.
  16. I have the same issue and there is a workaround that has worked for some. Hope this helps
  17. Hi, I too am having issues with an onboard audio card not being able to add to a win 10 vm. I can select it in the vm, but when launching the vm I get an error. I have an asRock Z370 Taichi board with Intel 8700k processor. I followed the instructions and still not able to use. Is this possible with my setup? Do I need to buy a sound card? I have a 5.1 surround system I would like to install for gaming. I use to have a usb controller pass-through before I did the PCIe ACS Override if that could of caused an issue. I will need to do that again unless this vm will recognize new hardware (will need to test this) Execution error internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor: 2018-07-23T18:58:38.067861Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=00:1f.3,id=hostdev2,bus=pci.0,addr=0x9: vfio error: 0000:00:1f.3: group 11 is not viable Please ensure all devices within the iommu_group are bound to their vfio bus driver. 18. Hello Everyone, Learning a lot from this self project and have my array up. Started win 10 vm and got it working with VNC. Had some issues with my gaming mouse not working right (g600). Created a new vm and mouse issue was working so trying to do a pass-through to eliminate potential issues. I followed Spaceinvaders video when creating my first vm as well as doing the USB controller pass-through. The GPU was next. My motherboard is an Asrock Z370 Taichi, Intel-7800k, Evga 1080ti, rest if needed will provide. I am getting a blank screen and have tried all the displayports (3) with no signal, though the vm is online with green status. I moved the GPU to the second slot out of 3 and still same issue. My onboard video is working just fine as have a separate monitor connected. That gave me an idea. I went directly to the onboard video during boot up and selected the gui. Lauched the vm from the gui and now it is working. I decided since the gui was launched in IE that I would do the same from another network pc. That worked. Then changed it back to chrome and now that works. Not sure where it was hung up at, but now it is working. Posting this as it may help someone else. Was an easy fix that cost me several hours of hair pulling. Now I know why people go bald =) My mouse issue was resolved as well on the original Win 10 vm. Just have one question. When the vm is launched I no longer have access to the onboard video gui. Is there a switch command to move mouse and keyboard from the vm to the gui??? Thanks for any help!!!
  19. Thanks for response. I had to wait for array to build and then move cables in this small room which in itself was not fun. After talking with asrock several times (seems there are some knowledgeable and others not) I located the above switch and confirmed on boot up that the onboard is now switched. I checked the system by going to tools > system devices and here is my log. I am not sure if I need to do anything else to make the onboard primary, but I believe this shows both onboard and PCIe by being in different IOMMU groups. Please correct me if I am wrong. This motherboard has 2 nic's, can I bound them both for better transfer rate or is that only in a VM? 20. Hello, I have just started my array and noticed that my Nvidia 1080ti GPU is being listed in the system log, but not the onboard graphics. The bios has no option to set this and automatically detects and assigns video if a card is detected. I could remove the video card and am sure the onboard will work, but adding the card will switch it back unless the configuration is changed to assign the onboard as primary. I have watched some videos that are dated and looking for help to point me in the right direction. I will be using the 1080ti in a win 10 vm pass-through. Here is my setup: Motherboard: asrock z370 taichi CPU: intel 8700k Video: EVGA 1080ti ftw PSU: Corsair ax1200i Memory: 32GB 3200MHz - xmp profile assigned F4-3200C14D-32GTZSK low profile (2x16GB) Cooler: Noctua NH-D15.... way big outer fan was moved up some as was resting on memory Case: Corsair 750D airflow edition Cache: MydigitalSSD SBX PCIe 3.0 x2 NVMe (2x 1TB) Parity/Disk: 2x HGST 4TB This for the most part is overkill, but will be using as a plex server, gaming with room to grow. Please let me know if there is anything else that is needed. Thanks for any help EDIT*** Need to wait for array to finish then will check cpu settings as spoke with a different tech from asrock and there may be a monitor setting to bypass auto function of video
  21. Thanks for your response. I was thinking about this and the build while sleeping which often has provided insight. I have done redundancy on cache and data drives, but not on the cpu which now makes sense. I was thinking water cooler since they were cool (pun intended), but now for stability will go with fans. Should the cpu fan fail at least there is still air flowing from the front case fans. Still curious if RGB is still viable for the case fans.
  22. Hello, I have been researching my build that is on the extreme side for all in one. Plex for starters as I have alot of videos that will be ripped. It will be also be for gaming as that is my social interaction due to an industrial accident that keeps me home-bound for the most part. My parts list for reference is: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/z8PMbX disregard the memory as it will not be RGB.(specs will be the same) I could not get a clear answer on watercooling for the cpu8700k (will not be overclocked at this time - stability). My gpu is a EVGA 1080Ti FTW 3 fan cooler and so that is taken care of. I went with Corsair case, power supply and for water cooler H115i pro. The case fans will be ML140. 1. Is water cooling viable for this build or in general? I may have the pc on alot for transcoding for family and friends to use as well as playing games at the same time. My current system has Noctua fans that I have been pleased with. Just it is huge in the case. 2. I got the itch for rgb fans, but the motherboard Asrock z370 Taichi has limited RGB function. The Case Corsair 750D has a fan controller that is included for 6 fans, but can't be used for RGB control. I would need to purchase the commander pro for the RGB. Does this management work with unRAID? Do I need to have my VM open for it to work? Thoughts? 3. I went with the corsair products to use there software Link to monitor and makes changes to the fans, cpu pump etc.. for easier control. I'm hoping I can use this? The parts list is still open for thoughts and suggestions. Appreciate any help!
  23. I wanted to update this to perhaps help others on what I have found. 1. I will be using one 1080ti for a single vm.... I believe I can use 2, but not that important at this time. 2. I found some information on the NVMe M2 drive that will allow for mirroring. I have 3 M2 slots on this motherboard and by using 2 will block 4/8 sata ports. I have decided to go with 2x MyDigitalSSD 1TB SBX Single Sided 80mm and when I need more SATA ports will get an expansion card. My parts list is extreme as I will be using this to experiment on at times from the different vm's created. Disregard the memory as it will not be rgb. Too many problems and software needed which leads to another question I have and a new thread. Thanks everybody for the help. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/z8PMbX
  24. Was hoping someone would of replied with the last few questions I have, but adding a few more as ready to hit the BUY button. Shameless bumping 1. The motherboard ASRock z370 taichi does have onboard video IGA. That will be used for unraid. Just double checking this now will allow for dual 1080ti's passthrough for one vm? I read somewhere just need to click the add button. 2. Would I be safe using a 256GB NVMe cache? Could you recommend one? I am still learning about drives here as there was something mentioned about a samsung evo that had a bug. Does this bug persist using a 1TB SSD for VM? 3. After these 2 questions i am ready to order components and buy a license. Can't wait!
  25. Thank you for the response. I will be transcoding 4 at the most and could be gaming at the same time. I will be using both 1080ti's for one vm. (this is possible to use both?) This may change to split to 2 vm's which would give me another workstation. Though for now it is for gaming. I am planning this rig to last at least 5 years and so paying more for the right components now for me is worth it. Appreciate the questions as it helps me solidify my choices I have made so far. One other question that has been bothering me about cases is that they seem to not have a spot for optical drive. For instance, the fractal define r6 gunmetal has everything I want except a location to put an optical drive as I need to rip dvd's for plex. I will be getting an Asus optical drive to rip blu-ray and 4 k media. The other options is the corsair obsidian 750d airflow edition.
