  1. Hi everyone, I'm trying to set up my first Unraid server in the most efficient way possible. Following the guides here and elsewhere I have created a share for all my downloads, and then a different share for my media. So the way things are set up now everytime a file downloads I have to then manually copy it to the media share. Is there a way to skip this step by setting up things differently? For example, if a file downloads through Radarr or Sonarr, is there a way for it to show up in my media share (and then in Plex) automatically without me having to manually move it and wait for the copy to be done? Just trying to see if I missed something here. Thanks!
  2. Hi everyone, Hi everyone, I recently completed an Unraid install in a new server. Everything is working great but I do have one issue which is driving me crazy: Very often (once every hour or so) the GUI will hang and the server will disappear. When I go to TOWER/ on my browser I get a random printer setup page that has nothing to with Unraid. A lot of my dockers will then stop working (but not strangely my Windows VM). Refreshing a couple of times or rebooting the server usually fixes this but it's extremely annoying. Anyone else has had this problem? If so can someone recommend a way to fix? Maybe changing the server's IP? Not sure... his problem? If so can someone recommend a way to fix? Maybe changing the server's IP? Not sure...
  3. hey everyone, I finally managed to solve the issue and thought I would share so others who have this problem can benefit. I tried every solution outlined here and nothing worked so i searched for others who had the same problem and I found a thread by someone who changed from an Asrock board to an Asus one and got it working. So I did the same (got an ROG Zenith Extreme on sale which was same price as the Asrock Fatal1ty) and the LSI HBA was immediately recognized and is now working as it should. So, for those who have issues with an LSI HBA in an Asrock board, seems like the only solution is to switch motherboards. Thanks again for all the suggestions you guys gave me. Cheers!
  4. Thanks. I tried to turn off legacy storage boot nothing changed. So if my mobo is not compatible with the card, should I get another one, or, since it shows up in windows anyway, just live with the boot issues and call it a day?
  5. I'm not making any progress. I tried the DOS boot and I get a "Failed to initialize PAL" error (apparently this is common on motherboards that have a UEFI mode). In UEFI mode it says the SAS adapter is not found. And in regular boot it just stays stuck on "initializing" like before. The weirdest thing is that I tried two different LSI cards, one of which is guaranteed to be already flashed in IT mode and I get the same result. Wonder if there's something wrong with my motherboard o my Bios config.
  6. Hi everyone I just finished building a server and I have an issue with my HBA card. I am using Windows for now but will be installing Unraid soon. I am using an LSI 9201-16i with an Asrock Fatal1ty X399 mobo and 1950x CPU. When I boot the computer the HBA card boot screen shows up first and then stays stuck on "Initializing". I can't use "Ctrl-C" to check which mode it is on. I tried to flash it through a DOS prompt and couldnt get it to work. I then booted in UEFI and tried again and the EFI SAS utility tells me it cant find the card. I tried two different cards and got the same result. The second I even made sure to buy from someone who had flashed it to IT mode and had been using it in a Freenas server. And when I do mange to boot into Windows the card is seen in the device manager. So I dont think its something to do with the card but probable with my config (bios options maybe?) If anyone has ideas or suggestions that would be great. Thanks!
  7. Understood. Also what about the 10G port? Should I give it to Unraid and create a bridge in the VM or pass through?
  8. Thanks. What about the SSD which will hold the VM? Does that have to be passed through or does Unraid take care of it?
  9. Hi everyone, Im about to set up Unraid with a gaming Win10 VM for the first time. I've done a lot of reading incl. these forums so I think I've figured out everything I need to know. There is one thin though that I cant figure out and would love some help with: how do I know which hardware to pass through to the VM and which to leave for Unraid to use? My setup is: AMD 1950x 16-core CPU 64GB RAM Asrock Fatal1ty x399 mobo with integrated 10G port GTX 1080 Ti graphics card LSI 9201 16i HBA 2 M.2 SSDs (one for cache one for VM) Onboard audio, wireless, USB3, ethernet etc And obviously a bunch of hard drives for storage I will be using the Windows VM a lot and will be using Unraid at the same time for storage, dockers (Plex, nzb, deluge etc). I know I will be passing through the Geforce card and some of my cores and RAM to the VM. What about the rest of my hardware? What do you recommend I pass through and what should I leave for unraid? Thanks.
  10. That is very helpful thank you. Should I also manually allocate RAM, or will Unraid do that automatically for me?
  11. Thanks thats something I hadnt considered. Will see if i can get cages. Any other tips for the other questions?
  12. Thanks. So i guess no flashing then. One other thing I was wondering is how do i physically identify each drive that I put in the case? Will unraid let me know which drive is where? Or do I have to add them one by one so I can keep track?
  13. Hi everyone, I am waiting on parts for my first ever Unraid server build, and had a few questions before i get started. This will be a file server + dockers (Plex, Radarr, etc) + one (for now) Windows 10 VM for editing and gaming. My setup will be: CPU: AMD 1950x w/ Noctua Air cooler GPU: Geforce 1080ti + GT1030 PSU: EVGA 1000W G3 RAM: 32GB DDR4 Motherboard: Asrock Fatal1ty X399 SSD drives: 2x 1TB NVME 3.5 drives: 6x10TB + 9x8TB WD Case: Fractal Define R5 w/ extra drive cages HBA: LSI 9201-16i + SFF8087 splitters Here's what I'd like to know: 1. What is the state of VM with GPU passthrough with an AMD CPU? I read that the biggest issues are resolved with the latest Unraid builds. Is there anything else to worry about when setting up the VM? 2. My CPU is a 16-core/32 thread CPU. How many cores should I dedicate to the VM and how many to unraid and the dockers? 3. Same question about RAM. How much RAM should go to the VM and how much to Unraid? 4. How would I find out if the LSI HBA needs to be flashed to IT mode? Where do I check? 5. I'm still a little confused about how to best set up the two NVME SSD drives that I will be using. Should I set up 1 for cache and 1 for the VM? Or is there a better setup? 6. Since this will be mainly a media server, should I have the drives spin down or not? Not sure what people do usually... Thanks in advance for any tips!
  14. Hi everyone, going to be building my first Unraid server soon. I'll be using it for: Plex media server (15 drives), dockers and a couple of Windows gaming and editing VMs. I already have the mechanical drives but just wondering what you would recommend to get for SSDs: how many? What capacity? M.2/NVME/2.5"? Thanks!
  15. Thanks I'll check the RAM. I would love the new threadripper but it will be pricey and the 1950x is only 630 at Microcenter, so i think it will be enough for my needs. I noticed in your build you have a RAID0 cache. Should I get 2x512GB m.2 instead of a 1TB one? Or maybe a second SSD? Also how is the airflow in this case with these components? Should i get extra fans or are the ones that come with the R5 enough? Thanks
  16. Thanks I'll get the correct cables. I plan to use 15 drives in the R5 using additional drive cages.
  17. Hi eveyrone, I will soon be building an Unraid server for all my files and media (mostly Plex), and also I will use a couple of Windows VMs to game and edit video (Adobe Premiere). 18. As if now, which is the best card to handle 16 drives in an Unraid setup? Thanks.
  19. Yes I agree I will have to be careful and monitor my temps. I'll add as many fans as possible too. Any thoughts on cases?
  20. I am trying to find a case that would hold 15 drives or so but my issue is I have to fit in a cabinet that is 16" high and 19" wide. So that limits my choice of cases a lot. Only two options I found would the Lian Li PC-D600 (but I would have to turn it on its side since it's too high) or the Caselabs S8S which is the perfect size but costs $500+ and takes two months to build. Any other case with a lot of 5.25 bays that would fit my cabinet? Thanks!
