Reformating them to 512 seems to have worked a treat currently rebuilding the two new drives now.
Here is is video that i followed for future reffernece if anyone else finds this thread looking for help
Yeah the drives are spining, when the LSI bios spins up they do not show. But if i enter its config, then I can see the drive the being displayed as 0 capacity. After doing some digging I am wondering if its due to where they came from before and maybe the sector size. So trying to reformat them in Ububtu using sg3-utils. Will see if that makes a difference. if not will get the log files from unraid,
Maybe think I have found the solution, wondering if the drives are 520 not 512. so following a youtube tutorial on how to reformat them to 512 so will find out in a few hours times if it has been successful
I currently have a couple of SAS drives in my set up, contected via a Lsi SAS9201-8i which is in HBA mode and detects the disks fine all working lovely.
Intill one of the drives has started to show some signs of failing so i ordered a couple more SAS drives from ebay to replace, add some more storage and have a cold spare on hand.
Unfortuately none of these new drives are being detected by the LSI card in the bios during bootup. So not really sure what to try next. Unless i have been sent 3 faulty drives
Any advice would be awesome
The New drives are seagate constellation es2. Have tried drives with different cables and in both ports of the LSI card and still no joy
Thanks
After having to restore and rebuild a disk. All the files have ended in a lost and found share.
Just wondering if anyone knows of any cleaver ways to resort this share in to a more organised way to help identify its contents. Ie some way to group files by date or type etc. As at the moment It’s a mess with loads of folders with single files etc in
Hi
I realise this has probably been asked and answered but I got a bit lost looking for the answers in amongst all the huge amount of information. So I apologise.
I have till now been using my intake server as file store. But have upgraded the hardware from an old pc and plus love to start doing some virtual machines etc.
My server lives in my garage/gym. I would love to be able to run a windows machine off it to a tv screen, so that it can stuff like Zwift (a bike simulator and hat connects to the trainer) as well as then access that VM from my MacBook if I should wish (not sure what I want to do with it)
hardware wise I have the following
AMD Ryzen 7 1800x
Asrock B450m mother board
Gtx 980ti
32 gb ram,
if anyone is able to help signpost me to some simple to follow instructions to get it working that would be awesome. I am starting from zero knowledge.
thanks
I have recently changed my sever to new hardware and after about 12-18 hours it becomes unresponsive. it still has power fans are spinning etc, but when i try to access the GU via the ip address or via the network folders.
No idea on how to try and trouble shoot, i have the sleep plugin and have set that to always awake. Any other ideas
Thanks

Thanks, have ran the repair so will see what the outcome on that is. i do still have the original drive, I have tried to mount it as an unassigned drive but that has failed, not really sure on what the next step is. it wont mount to my mac..
Yep its moved every file to lost and found :(, its not the end of the world as i have the files saved elsewhere, just a pain and some not accessible under lockdown
Thanks, Just watched a video by space invader one as well about this, So i have ran the check, its given me quite a lot infact loads. If i run the repair i guess i am worried that all the files will now become Lost&found. If this happens is it then a case of manually resorting? Think there was about 1.5tb on the disk so ideally not the best and would love to avoid that
