  1. Is it random which drive you get? Never tried this method before.
  2. I’ve only used it a little bit so far, but the general ease of use and GUI I think are excellent. More security features would be what I would like added.
  3. Hello all, I currently have a Synology 415+ with a mixture of 3-8TB WD Red's. I'm planning to switch over to unRAID as I've tinkered a little with it ages ago and it seemed great. I will be serving Plex content to 1-2 clients, backing up multiple computers and probably running a couple of dockers. I'm trying to not spend crazy amounts and I want a cool & quiet system. Here's what I'm looking to order: Case - Node 804 CPU/GPU - Ryzen 3 2200G Motherboard - Asrock B450M Pro4 (Not sure if MSI B450M Mortar is worth extra?) RAM - Team Vulcan 2x4GB 3000mhz DDR4 Storage - 2xPNY 240GB SSD's (1 for unRAID cache/1 for Plex Data). WD Red's will be transferred in from my Synology for actual storage. PSU - be quiet! Pure Power 11 500w Gold Cooling - 10xArctic F12 PWM 120mm fans for the case running at low RPM. Possibly Cryorig M9a for APU to lower noise. What do you think? This will cost me a touch under £500 which seems reasonable for me considering I spent more than that on the GPU in my gaming PC. Any idea on what fan hub/controller I should get for the x10 case fans? And since the motherboard only has 4 sata ports, I'll need to buy a PCIe sata card right? Any advice on which one? Never bought one before. Thanks in advance!
  4. Hello guys, running on 4.7, can't access the web interface, I've tried using the name (hpmicroserver) and also the IP (168.192.0.6), any idea's? Not sure if this has anything to do with my newish Netgear router, still not figured out how to set static IP. Thanks!
  5. Sorry for the late reply my Mac has been down. Just wanted to update that after changing router (wanted wireless N+ for the house), it has no longer been dropping and the speeds are up to where they should be...must have been something wrong with the saved IP or something with the old one. So far so good
  6. Hello mate, does a HP Microserver have a screensaver when all it has on it is unRAID? Wouldn't it need an OS for that? I just restarted the unit via the WebUI, it had problems rebooting, it came up with: 'Boot failed, continue to look for Boot media' Edit - Picture
  7. Hello there, I guess I'm just running whatever the standard NIC is for the HP Proliant server? In the router I've set the IP address to static, so hopefully that's that part done at least. Edit - Also wondering if there's any sort of clue in that at least some of the times it goes down, the screen for the server is completely blank...must be a reason for that?
  8. Any further suggestions please? Still have a server which is no use for anything but short periods of time
  9. I connected to the Router with the IP address but can't find how to make a permanent reservation. I connect to Server UI via IP or name of server, but right now it's dropped whilst transferring a film and I can't connect to it via IP nor server name. Edit - And switched over to the VGA port on my TV (which is what the server runs through), and the screen was just black, nothing showing at all, had to do hard shut down.
  10. Thanks, I can't find any way of doing this though? Argh, whilst typing I was transferring small 2GB file to server, I can't connect to the server GUI even though the file is transferring correctly...(I have it bookmarked on Safari so I just click refresh but it can't find it even though the server is fine). Don't want to manual shut down the thing Edit - Phew, managed to get it via IP address.
  11. Sorry about the slow response been working a lot! Here's a picture of my settings through the GUI. Clicky
  12. This is what my router settings currently look like, thanks.
  13. I have no idea how to make a permanent reservation on the router. How can I check if I'm using SMB or not please, as I'll go do that now for you and report back. Again not sure how to check if local master is set to 'yes'. As for the workgroup, I have it as 'unRAID' in the browser menu, how do I change it for the client please? Sorry for all the newbie questions and thanks for your help!
  14. Hello guys, back again for more help, I'm still new to all this server stuff so have been encountering problems, the problems being dropped connection, extremely slow transfer speeds, and sometimes not finding the server. My setup is as follows.... - 2011 Mac mini running Lion 10.7.2 - HP Proliant NL36 Microserver running unRAID 4.7 - TP Link 5 port Gigabit switch - o2 Wireless router I'm pretty sure I have settings wrong somewhere since I'm a newbie with server stuff, if you want me to take pictures of anything like my network settings etc just say, I've just went into router settings and set the server to static IP as I've heard that helps some. Here's a link to the log, thanks.
  15. Doh you were right! Put the cable from Mac>switch and running at around 40mb/s now, very happy indeed! Thanks guys!
  16. I have one cable going from server>switch, a cable going from switch>router, and then a cable going from router>mac, all brand new Cat5e cables. Thanks. Edit - Do I have the cables going from the units in the wrong order, should the Mac be plugged directly into the switch for example?
  17. Hello guys, recently got my first unRAID server (first server of any type in fact!), my setup is as follows. HP Proliant Microserver (2x2TB WD Green/1x250GB stock HDD)>Gigabit switch>Router>2011 Mac Mini, using 3x0.5Metre Cat5e cables, yet when I transfer a 13.4GB file, it says '22minutes remaining), I check the network activity and it's hovering at 9.7MB/S, it seem to think I'm on a 100 connection and not 1000 I take it? Any help appreciated, thanks. Edit - Ok just went to Network utility info in OSX and it says 100Mbits/s, not sure why though...
  18. Doh, thanks! Still getting used to the server, adding films as we speak, running 2x2TB and 1x250GB, seems great so far
  19. Forgot to add, I did try just putting on the newest official BIOS earlier, but I got the following error: Clicky Any ideas?
  20. Thanks, sigh, it says the setup won't work on 64-bit windows, all I have is 64-bit windows install on mothers laptop and OSX Lion on my Mac Mini....
  21. Ok guys, just got my server, never had a server before so this is all new to me, I've put in 2x2TB WD EARX drives (with the stock 250GB HDD as the third drive), put unRAID 4.7 on a USB stick which I've put on the internal USB port. I'm not sure how to update the BIOS for the server though...not having much luck in my hunt so far either so any help appreciated...
  22. Well I finally got the server today, just home from work. I don't think I have a VGA cable so I can't hook it up to anything to get it setup (Guessing I can't do it all through my Mac Mini)....also need to find some HDD screws that I should have lying around. Sad times.
  23. Problem is though is that if I were to get them switched with Hitachi's, when/if they eventually fail they'd be replaced with WD's anyway I think..might just take my chance, don't want to wait all over again.
  24. Hopefully my server arrives today, already got my USB stick ..hard drives arrived today, Scan sent me 2xWD20EARX Sata3's instead of the Hitachi's by accident Guessing I should probably just keep them though to save the hassle of sending stuff back and waiting again, especially if WD have bought out Hitachi?
  25. About to order 2xHitachi 5900RPM 2TB Coolspins and a 4GB Sony Micro Vault.
