  1. Happy unBirthday! I've been an unRAIDer since March 2019 by accident. Was looking for server to replace aging Windows Server 2003. I have been bouncing around with different OS's (UNIX, Linux, OSX, Windows, etc.), computers, off the shelf consumer NAS gigs (Intel, Buffalo, WD, Dell, Netgear, Seagate) for personal and business, for over 25years trying to find the Holy Grail of the computing world. All have shortcomings mostly in support, cost/time of maintenance & importantly inevitable data loss. In comes unRAID, unRAID Community (and Docker, & Docker Community too). BAM! VM's solved the OS nightmares. NAS scalability, high availability, data protection solved! Tested new array configuration (scalability), hot swap & data corruption, cache change/corruption (performance impact). Micro-services - just getting started with NextCloud, Letsencrypt, Nginx, MariaDB, WordPress, etc. Everything has been humming along for almost half a year now without any issues. Feels really good when you know things just work and you know recovery is a simple swapping of SW/HW and the Community has your back.
  2. Old thread but just want to debunk "one GPU in the machine" notion, so others don't get the wrong idea. Can have more than one GPU without issues:
  3. Recommend replacing Dell PERC 6i with either H200 or H310 and pimping storage & GPU:
  4. Congrats on your R510! You're gonna have loads of unRAID FUN with it! Concur with rollieindc: "couldn't beat the price or nature of the beast". Concur with rollieindc: better to swap out H700 with H200 flashed to IR or IT mode. H700 is HW RAID only. Not good to have 2 RAID masters (HW RAID & unRAID) controlling same storage at the same time. Can work but masters will inevitably fight when drive changes occur. Based on your picture, you'll also need to swap out SAS cables with something like this: Mini SAS 36Pin SFF-8087 to 36Pin SFF-8087 SAS Data Internal Server Cable (length appropriate to your application). https://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-Mini-SAS-36Pin-SFF-8087-to-36Pin-SFF-8087-SAS-Data-Internal-Server-Cable-1M/183819517021?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 NVMe SSD for spare PCIe slot (SOLVED): VM, Compute, Gaming Graphics (SOLVED😞
  5. Some cache ideas. Some mod to R710 to beef up NAS, VM, gaming performance.
  6. Is that a CO detector on the peg board? Gotta show my wife I'm not as evil as she thought
  7. Here's another idea on SSD in R710 that I use that is internal, doesn't cost more than SATA SSD, faster than SATA SSD, and doesn't require modifying or taking up a drive slot. Note: SATA SSD currently limited to theoretical ~600MB/s transfer rate. The NVMe SSD can use any available PCIe slot. I use the Riser1 middle PCIe slot. Has excellent air flow. Intel SSD 660p Series (1.0TB M.2 80mm PCIe 3.0 x 4 3D2 QLC) 2 2281" (SSDPEKNW010T8X1 ) (NVMe SSD, Not SATA SSD) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GCL6BR4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Read & Write performance about 1.3GB/s (as reported by PreClear). Theoretical limit for this SSD should be about 4GB/s. It's limited here due to R710 PCIe 2.0. Temp of SSD peaked at 67'C during bulk data transfer (~256GB), then quickly settled back to ~32'C. PCI-e 3.0 x4 Host Adapter for M.2 NVMe PCI-e SSD (Only Suit for NVMe) (Amazon vendor swapped product to this one now: M.2 Adapter,Support NVME (M Key) and SATA (B Key) 2in1 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 Host Controller Expansion Card Adapter) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BNTRWXW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I also bought similar card on eBay. Search "4x M.2 to PCIe Adapter, NVME M2 SSD". I also use pricier: Samsung MZVPV256HDGL-00000 MZ-VPV2560 SM951 256GB NVMe SSD (256GB) Read & Write performance about 1.9GB/s (as reported by PreClear).
  8. Instead of manually restarting pmsuspend'ed VM from Dashboard, is there an app like Depicus's WOL that can trigger the restart without having to log into the Dashboard? Would be great if Depicus can add this feature to the WOL tool, where tool sends both WOL & unRAID VM restart trigger to get VM online from any power save state.
