  1. Hello. My unraid 6.8 system had run flawlessly for the past 5 years until last week when both Docker and VM went down. Docker gives a "Docker failed to start" message and VM showed that I had no VM's. Oddly enough the cache drive had vanished as well. Then it reappeared as an unknown drive, then... well then things became even more bizarre. I will try to provide a cogent listing of errors along with some screen grabs and a log. Issues Cache drive may not appear and unraid shows no device and no device is available to select. Starting array just shows array w/o cache. The cache drive may appear as an unassigned drive. Reboot may show multiple missing array discs but the missing discs vary from reboot to reboot. The device lists are all empty. All drives (including cache) appear but starting the array takes much longer than usual and no VM's are found. May get a libvirt error (see below). Unpredictable log errors during boot (e.g. ata5 (cache drive) errors 15 & 16, unsynchronized clock, can't find disc, and others.) Things I've done Changed the VM libvirt path to point directly to file rather than folder. Upgraded to 6.10 Did a disc check of the unraid USB stick. Reboot, shutdown and restart. I'm not able to discern a pattern to any of this and any thoughts are appreciated. rms tower-syslog-20220605-1437.zip
  2. Rather than create a new WOL thread I am going to piggy-back off my earlier post. Since my Sept. 2016 post I upgraded my unRAID configuration with a new MB, CPU and SATA card. MB is a different brand (Gigabyte vs. Biostar) and after getting everything back together and my PLEX server running optimally I decided to go back and tackle the S3 sleep/WOL issue. Research on this subject http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Setup_Sleep_(S3)_and_Wake_on_Lan_(WOL) suggests a simple process but to my dismay I have essentially the same problem as with my previous hardware configuration. 1. S3 is enabled in BIOS. There is no specific "WOL enable" in the BIOS but setting "Wake on PCI" works essentially the same. 2. Executing ethtool eth0 shows that WOL is available with option 'g'. 3. Sending a "Sleep" command from the unRAID GUI results in anticipated log output: Jan 16 10:16:21 Tower s3_sleep: Enter sleep mode Jan 16 10:16:22 Tower kernel: PM: Syncing filesystems ... done. and the computer goes dark and silent. 4. Ping to computer times out and router deletes unRAID from the "Attached Devices" roster. 5. Sending magic packet results in the computer powering up, becoming visible to the router and responding to ping requests. 6. unRAID login attempts via telnet or GUI are unsuccessful. 7. The monitor connected to the unRAID box remains dark. 8. My only option is a hard reboot. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks, ron
  3. I find myself in the same situation as belorion and hope someone can recommend a micro atx AMD3+ board that plays well with S3 sleep. My current board doesn't wake nicely (garbled video and not responding to login attempts) and there are many posts from others with the same problem. Any MB recomendations??
  4. I precleared a drive (let's call it drive A) and no issues were identified. I used drive A to replace an existing drive (drive B) and shortly after rebuild began unRAID disabled drive A and moved to emulation mode. 1. Looking at the log showed multiple prior and on-going errors. 2. Rebooting didn't change anything which didn't surprise me too much. 3. Prior to running SMART test I did a screen grab of drive A errors. Nothing catches my eye. I have other drives with worse. 4. I ran the short SMART test and it was "normal". 5. Swapped drive B back in but unRAID unhappy because drive B smaller than drive A (the drive unRAID had rejected). 6. Replaced drive B with third drive (drive C) and unRAID happily rebuilding array. Any thoughts? ron Log_2016.09.17.13.36.txt
  5. Since installing v6 and the Limetech PMS container I am also losing posters etc. daily. From info below it is clear that my /config was inappropriately mapped and I have remapped it. See attached. Question: should I map as /mnt/cache/appdata/plex or /mnt/cache/application support/plex? See attached. Perhaps unrelated but the Cache drive no longer visible when I sign onto server. Any thoughts?
  6. I think this thread covers some fundamental unRAID issues and I am grateful that dschur resurrected it to discuss his experiences. I discovered unRAID just 2 months this thread began and my server has also spent 5 years humming quietly in a corner, running v5 and waiting for me to blow out the dust every 6-12 months when I swap out a drive for a bigger one. Since my server is mostly for media low maintenance and easy, inexpensive storage increase is important so the ability to buy whatever is cheapest on the refurbished/craigslist market and know it will mesh with whatever drives are already installed is great. I have a goofy mix of drives from 2TB SATA 3 to 160GB PATA. The current version of PLEX requires unRAID v6 and the upgrade was (mostly) painless. Needed a new USB stick because the old one wouldn't play nice with v6 and learning how to use Docker has taken some time but the upgrade does not demand a new MB, more RAM, fancier CPU or anything else. unRAID is a great niche product but it requires a bit of tinkering, support is via the forum and the thought that a commercial product is better is ever present. Thanks again dschur it's great to hear about your experiences.
  7. Thanks. Thinking this through it seems that the only practical way to b/u 10's of Tbytes is to another (probably off site) unRAID server. Is that what you do or something else?
  8. I am hoping to gather opinions regarding the pro's and con's of various backup software. Searching the forums suggests that Crashplan, Bit Torrent Sync and rsnapshot are very popular but I am probably missing some. 1. Bit Torrent Sync appears to be a really cool version of DropBox but I want daily, weekly and monthly backups not synced files. 2. Crashplan offers cloud storage as well as local and WAN backups. I am presuming that daily, weekly and monthly versions would be included but uncertain. 3. rsnapshot offers local and WAN backups but no cloud storage. However creating daily, weekly and monthly snapshots is easily automated. This seems to be what I want but would appreciate other opinions. Any comments regarding ease of installation, upgrading, stability, usability etc. for theses (and other) options?
  9. Appreciate the help. Situation resolved. ron
  10. Tried your changes but same issue. How did you install the template? Not certain I understand this question. I just entered data (as you had explained earlier today) when the container was installing. Then I opened the template and made the necessary edits. Is there another way? orn
  11. Trying to start PMS LISO results in a "Connection Refused" error although there is no difficulty getting the Lime Tech PMS container to connect. No error message generated. Any thoughts?
  12. That worked. Partially. The folder Movies (same library I had been frustrated with in post below) is loading nicely now with correct metadata. I have installed CA and FCP and addressed the issues FCP identified. Problem 1> None of my other media folders which are stored in the same folder as Movies are being recognized by PLEX which is saying "Library has no content". Problem 2> I am not able to get Remote Access to work despite manually specifying a port and having port forwarding set correctly. I tried setting this yesterday via the Add Port part of the Docker Template but had to disable today because for some reason it was blocking PLEX from seeing the server.
  13. My unraid server has been happily running PLEX since about 2010 but with the recent upgrade of PMS it became necessary to make the transition from rc 5.8 to 6 (6.2.0-rc3). The transition went smoothly but figuring out what to do with PLEX is driving me bonkers. I have spent a fair number of hours pounding away and searching the unraid and plex forums without success. I learned over the past 5+ years that I can read the answer to my question and not recognize it until a competent user breaks it down into "bite-size" pieces for me. So please don't hammer me with "the answer is there, just search for it". I've been trying. Question 1> With v5.8 there was one place for the txz file (/boot/extras) and installing it populated /boot/plugins/. Between that and PLEX Updater (while it was being maintained) life was good. With v6.2 it appears that there are 3 options for PLEX and I am posting to this thread because I feel much like ctaylor. It appears that PLEX is installed directly onto the flash drive but 'extras' is gone. Does the .txz file go directly into /boot/plugins/? Presumably not because the Plugins page should handle the installation but where on the flash drive should the .txz file go? And should I delete it after installation? Question 2> The Docker is pretty cool and I installed lime techs' PLEX container and thought all was great. But not so. With PLEX plugin on v5.8 I specified /mnt/cache/PLEX/ for apps and /mnt/cache/PLEX/tmp for whatever PLEX does there. Then using PLEX I was able to navigate and install media libraries. If, however, I specify those paths in Docker I can't navigate to my libraries so I am using /mnt/user/WillowRun/Media/ which is where all of my media resides. But now PLEX doesn't "know about" the stuff on the cache drive and is rebuilding the libraries metadata and apparently storing all the info on the array instead of the cache. Storing metadata on a SSD cache is a much better option and the idea of editing all the metadata make me ill. Question 3> Is there an advantage of Docker over plugins (other than easy updates) for PLEX? thanks for your time, ron
  14. Not knowing what else to do I downloaded PMS 0.9.2, installed it in boot/extras and rebooted. Screen grab below https://www.evernote.com/l/ACfjz6pXBe5DtqIShNAbHAWHENk9KK_r4so
  15. Error Message: Failed to download Plex install file. Aborting Installation.

  17. The attempted script has three lines. Downloading.... Installing... Failed...
  18. That seems to have helped a tiny bit. I can now get a quick glimpse of the executing script and I can see it is trying to download PMS. Is there a problem with the default/usr/local/plexmediaserver in the 'Install Directory'? That folder is empty. root@Tower:/usr/local# ls bin/ emhttp/ etc/ lib/ plexmediaserver/ sbin/ root@Tower:/usr/local# cd plexmediaserver root@Tower:/usr/local/plexmediaserver# ls root@Tower:/usr/local/plexmediaserver# ls -al total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 nobody users 0 2015-05-02 16:34 ./ drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 0 2015-05-02 16:34 ../ Does the installation go into that folder or is the plugin looking for something in that folder.
  19. 1. Status is 'Not Installed' and stays that way. Clicking 'Install' refreshes back to unRAID's 'Settings' page. 2. Although I have entered the path into the Config Directory space and selected 'Done' & 'Apply' it insists on reverting back to the default /usr/local/plexmediaserver/config. 3. I am leaving 'Enable Plex Media Server' to 'No Status is 'Not Installed' and stays that way. It attempts to run a script but it flashes by too quickly for me to read it.
  20. Okay. I found the library path (/mnt/cache/Plex) and redid everything. The code moving the contents of the Application Support folder apparently executed correctly because I confirmed the folder was empty before deleting it. I am having 2 problems. 3. I am leaving 'Enable Plex Media Server' to 'No' Question: Was I supposed to delete the old 'Plexmediaserver' from the boot/config/plugins folder? You didn't mention it so I left it in place. root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins# ls images/ plexmediaserver/ plexmediaserver.plg* webGui/ root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins# thanks
  21. 5. go to the plugin setup page and set your install directory (if you want) and the config directory (in the old plugin it was called library directory i think) Where is this supposed to be (I renamed the old plexupdater with the kjg prefix to avoid deleting them)? I am confused that you are referencing the library directory in the old plugin since that folder was to be deleted. root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins# ls kjgplexupdater/ kjgplexupdater.plg.old* webGui/ kjgplexupdater.plg* plexmediaserver/ If I follow the default path for 'Install Directory' root@Tower:/boot/config# cd /usr/local/plexmediaserver root@Tower:/usr/local/plexmediaserver# ls config/ root@Tower:/usr/local/plexmediaserver# cd config root@Tower:/usr/local/plexmediaserver/config# ls Plex\ Media\ Server/ root@Tower:/usr/local/plexmediaserver/config# If I follow the path for 'Config/Library Directory' root@Tower:/boot# cd /usr/local/plexmediaserver/config root@Tower:/usr/local/plexmediaserver/config# ls Plex\ Media\ Server/ root@Tower:/usr/local/plexmediaserver/config# 6. do not start it yet!! You need to go into your old ['old' or 'the'?] config (library) folder [where is this supposed to be?] and make a small change, we don't want the "Application Support" folder anymore but we want the contents of that folder still: mv /your/library/path/Application\ Support/* /your/library/path/ That will move the contents out into your library path My Config Folder (I am not certain this is what you are referring to) root@Tower:/boot/config# ls Pro.key* go* network.cfg* plugins/ share.cfg* super.dat* disk.cfg* ident.cfg* passwd* shadow* shares/ super.old* I am rocks for brains certainly. I am missing something.
  22. thanks for the reply. 1. delete the old plugin files. (delete the .plg and .plg.old as well as the plexupdater folder all located in the /boot/config/plugins folder) 2. put my .plg file in the /boot/config/plugins folder 3. make sure you don't have anything PLEX related in the /boot/extras folder or /boot/packages folder, if you do, delete them 4. reboot, after reboot you will see my plugin installed and should not have plex installed yet. I did the install but am a bit confused at this point. I am here: root@Tower:/boot/config# ls Pro.key* go* network.cfg* plugins/ share.cfg* super.dat* disk.cfg* ident.cfg* passwd* shadow* shares/ super.old* root@Tower:/boot/config# cd plugins root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins# ls images/ kjgplexupdater.plg* plexmediaserver/ plexupdater/ kjgplexupdater/ kjgplexupdater.plg.old* plexmediaserver.plg* webGui/ root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins# pwd /boot/config/plugins root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins# And my server is showing: https://www.evernote.com/l/ACfjz6pXBe5DtqIShNAbHAWHENk9KK_r4so I need a bit more guidance here.
  23. Apologies in advance as I am sure this clueless noob question is answered somewhere but I am unable to find it. I would like to delete my PMS Updater (1.9.4) plugin and replace it with PHAZE's plugin so I can update PMS to 0.9.12 but I don't want to screw this up. I have not performed a manual update in over a year and am concerned I may have forgotten something. My recollection is that I have 2 options. root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins# ls plexmediaserver/ plexupdater/ plexupdater.plg* plexupdater.plg.old* webGui/ root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins# cd plexupdater root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins/plexupdater# ls cookies.txt* plexupdater.png* plgver.txt* settings.ini* root@Tower:/boot/config/plugins/plexupdater# Manual Installation 1. Plug the unRAID USB into my computer and navigate to 'Plugins'. 2. Delete folder 'plexupdater' and delete files plexupdater.plg and plexupdater.plg.old. 3. Move PHAZE updater file 'plexmediaserver' into folder 'plugins' and reboot computer. Install from terminal. 1. Help. I no longer have a clue how to do this. thanks in advance.
