  1. My current set up:

    MOBO: ASRock - Z77M

    CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz

    Memory: 8GB RAM

Lately, more and more of my family members and a few friends, have been requesting access to my server to watch my movies via Plex.  I never thought I would need to upgrade my server, but it appears I might need a faster CPU since Plex transcoding is CPU intensive.

At the moment, I can stream up to 4 devices without issues (depending one the movie) out of network.  However, this might be changing since most of my family are starting to get Smart TV's, Rokus or Fire TV's.

So, I was wondering if anyone is able to stream out of network to 10 or more devices at once?  What kind of set up are you using?  What suggestions does anyone have?

Note:  About 98% of my movies are BD quality with HD sound tracks!

  2. I just realized that I am using the Limtech version of plex, which apparently only updates the public version of Plex.  How do I go about switching from Limtech to Linuxserver Plex docker?

    Here you go--

I just ran across this last week as well as I was using another source.

    Hope that helps!

EDIT:  And I just found my issue as well--for anyone facing a similar issue:  there's a VARIABLE you can add (at least for Linuxserver) that states "latest" or "plexpass".  I was getting prompted to "install manually" then found the variable under the advanced view of the docker's properties for Plex.  Soon as I changed it from latest to plexpass I went from 9.15.2 to 9.15.3

Many thanks to Linuxserver for this repository--MUCH appreciated!  Plex has been a huge leap forward for me from the years of using my Dune.

Thanks. I will try it out when I get home later tonight.

  3. So for the past week or so I've been having some issues with Plex buffering a lot lately.  This is something that has not happened before in or out of network.  The devices having issues are my Vizio and Samsung smart TV's, which have the Plex app.  Both connected via wire.  I went on to my UnRaid docker and checked for updates, and it stated it had the latest.  I forced it to update, and I noticed that the container ID changed.

Then I went to the Plex WebGui, settings, server, and I noticed it states

Version 0.9.15.2! An update is available. Please install manually.
How do I go about updating manually?
  4. As I understand it mp4 is just a container for the audio & video types inside, much like mkv...

So it may help to use something like mediainfo to get a bit more information about what video and audio encodes are causing you problems.

Also what software you are using. I used Handbreak before, and I had issues with MKV. Now, I've been using MakeMKV for years, and I haven't had any issues.

  5. If your client support MP4 then it shouldn't be transcoding at all. All you have to do is change the setting in Plex to direct play the file. I'm a strictly MKV file person. I can stream in and out of network and I don't have any issues. The most people I've had out of network streaming were 4. No issues.

  6. I agree.  Excellent work on CA.  I've noticed that there are some plugins that repeat themselves with different Authors, (for example sickbeard by Phaze, needo, linuxserver).  How do you know, which one is the best updated version to download/install?

Best bet is to look at the support threads and see which ones you're most comfortable with.  Myself, I would go with either linuxserver.io or binhex

Barring that, you second best bet would be to ask this:

    Thanks for heads up.

  7. Community Applications is the only way I'd recommend anyone installs anything nowadays.

All the content is available for install via other means, but CA makes it incredibly easy to find and install dockers/plugins.

Squid put a lot of work into getting this up and running, and it's been a huge improvement on the old ways.

  8. I know this post is old, but I'm in the same boat.  I'm trying to figure out how to set up Sonarr and Sab.

I don't particularily agree with what I'm about to say, but the absolute easiest way to set up those containers to talk to each other would be to have your mountings as follows:

/config mapped to /mnt/cache/appdata/sabnzbd (or sonarr)

    and then map

/mnt/user to /mnt/user on each container

Within the setup for sonarr and sab set each up to download to and look for media, etc within /mnt/user/whatever.  See the docker FAQ

Thanks.  I'll give it a try.
