  1. I was having trouble getting the new driver installed as well. I do have a 10G network card installed and so I went down that path trying to figure out if it was the issue. I did the same sort of troubleshooting as others. Changed from static to DHCP, messed with MTU and verified I wasn't doing any bonding. After all that I remembered I had re-installed my Sophos Endpoint protection a few days ago on my main PC I use to access the GUI. I disabled my endpoint protection it and it downloaded and installed the driver without issue. At no time did it ever tell me it was blocking anything. Just wanted to throw this out there as another possible work around for people having issues. Im sure this is probably mentioned previously somewhere in this thread, and if so I must have missed it. I would not have thought my endpoint protection on my PC would affect the GUI of Unraid in my browser when it tried to download and install a driver. You learn something new everyday.
  2. Here's a few pics of how I made mine work for me... Brilliant! I just may have to copy your setup. I assume its WAY quieter than before since you don't have the 20mm fans on the power supplies spinning like they're ready for take off? Yes you do lose the power supply redundancy but since myself and probably everyone else here runs a UPS its a non issue. Thanks for sharing.
  3. Yes this runs unRAID out of the box with zero issues. The second CPU is really your call. I am only running the a single 6 core opteron and it does what I need to do. Yes the 6 core version works after the bios upgrade. Those are Barcelona core socket F so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work ESXi does work however this hardware DOES NOT support hardware passthrough. So its a no go for a desirable unRAID setup with ESXi.
  4. To me one of the key reasons I didn't go with the Xeon board was there are no PCIe slots on that board. That was a big future expansion possibility issue in my opinion. Other than that I didn't see anything else that would've steered me away.
  5. I'm down for that, but not really sure what to change it to? Any ideas anyone? On a side note, I checked out my 2nd cpu socket and didn't notice any bent pins or anything. I didn't buy two cpus though so Im not too concerned about it.
  6. I used the onboard prior to the new cpu to do some esxi testing, but not since I swapped the cpu and had no issues. If it were in one of the bays though unless you moved a cable they would all go to the sata cards in the PCI-X slots. Could be a loose sata cable or even a possible issue with the back plane.
  7. I can't see any reason why if 1 CPU works the 2nd CPU wouldn't.
  8. Thats a bummer. Mine had 3 power cords included. If they were there you couldn't miss them, they were brand new and individually packaged. The good news is you should be able to get them locally fairly cheap. Its just a standard C13 to 3 prong same as any other PC.
  9. Im only using 1 CPU and it booted into unraid with zero issues. Working like a champ right now.
  10. I did that, and I hit F11 for Boot Manager to double force the sucker to use that drive. Nothing worked, not even when I used an additional PS/2 KB (finding that one was fun). I got a glimpse of what the system was trying to boot into each time: IPMI card. I believe if I would have removed that IPMI card I would have had less problems. I can't wait for the real one to get in so I can do proper KVM on this monster. More good news: 1.0b is the latest firmware for these SAT2-MW8 systems. Only thing I need to do now is update the BIOS on the MB and start the installation of drives. What a PIA. Any time the power is completely removed from the server for an extended period of time, when you first boot it up it initializes the IPMI card. It takes about 60 seconds and then reboots again. Is that what you're talking about? You can't do anything until it reboots after the IPMI card is initialized. Are you getting the full screen supermicro logo or are you seeing actual POST information? You may see things different than me though as I have a kb and monitor hooked directly in and it sounds like you might be connected remotely? I havent had any issues whatsoever and I have had it boot from 3 different flash drives. One to update the bios, one that has my unRAID install, and one with esxi on it to play around a bit.
  11. I know on mine I have to go into the bios -> boot and select hard drives. Under there for some reason is where its puts everything. My USB drive was like number 7 or 8 on the list. Make it number 1 and then go to boot priority and you can then pick the USB as the first boot drive. It was confusing, but it worked.
  12. :( :( :( That is a bummer. I guess there goes my plans of attempting to run unRAID under Esxi. I have installed 5.0 right now but it will not do hardware passthrough (posting from my first VM now) and I was hoping that changing to the new processor might fix that as I believe "istanbul" core is capable of AMD-Vi. It also might be that the motherboard can't do it but my Googlefu is failing me on that. Either way... Yeah.
  13. One more thing regarding the bios upgrade. The files do not automatically create a bootable USB flash. I created a 98 boot disk flash drive and then copied over the bios files. It flashed with no issues. If you need instructions on making a bootable USB flash look here - http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm. You are also correct on there not being CPU mount on the second CPU slot. Although from looking Im not sure its necessary to remove the board as there are two threaded posts that it looks like you just screw the bracket into from the top.
  14. No worries on the CPU issue. Just snapped this picture.
