I did that, and I hit F11 for Boot Manager to double force the sucker to use that drive. Nothing worked, not even when I used an additional PS/2 KB (finding that one was fun).
I got a glimpse of what the system was trying to boot into each time: IPMI card. I believe if I would have removed that IPMI card I would have had less problems. I can't wait for the real one to get in so I can do proper KVM on this monster.
More good news: 1.0b is the latest firmware for these SAT2-MW8 systems. Only thing I need to do now is update the BIOS on the MB and start the installation of drives. What a PIA.
Any time the power is completely removed from the server for an extended period of time, when you first boot it up it initializes the IPMI card. It takes about 60 seconds and then reboots again. Is that what you're talking about? You can't do anything until it reboots after the IPMI card is initialized. Are you getting the full screen supermicro logo or are you seeing actual POST information? You may see things different than me though as I have a kb and monitor hooked directly in and it sounds like you might be connected remotely? I havent had any issues whatsoever and I have had it boot from 3 different flash drives. One to update the bios, one that has my unRAID install, and one with esxi on it to play around a bit.
