Wrong time stamp on files copied from Windows 7 to unRAID

Featured Replies

I am completely new to unRAID.  Built my first system over the weekend, precleared the 2 drives, and got everything running with unMENU seemingly quite well.  However, my backup software kept copying files that had not been changed, so digging a little deeper I noticed that lots of my files (10,000 of them or more) do not have the same time stamp on the destination as the sources.  The files checksum identically, the dates are correct, but the time is off...often as must as 10 minutes (ie. sources is 9:21pm, destination is 9:28pm).  I ensured my timezone is correct in unRAID, parity is good, used windows explorerer copy function and Second Copy backup...results are consistent on each file.  Ie.  it always copies it over at 9:28pm on the file noted above.

This makes my backups last hours longer and obviously overtime would beat up the hardware unnecessarily.

Any ideas?

My server config: ASUS M4A785-M, AMD Phenum II Quad Core (2.1g), 2-1GB PC6400, 2-1.5TB Seagate 7200, Gbit LAN

Make sure the time is set correct in unRAID, just not the time zone.  Also make sure you have the time set correctly in the BIOS.  The last thing you can do is use NTP to keep everything in sync.

I checked and the time was setup as if my local time was UTC.  So changed to NTP and verifed that UTC is not correct.  Deleted the destination file, recopied from the source to destination with the same results.  I am not very familiar with Linux, so assume I have something jacked up somewhere.  Here is a screen shot of the two time stamps on the file copied.  On the right is the destination (unRAID) and the left is the source (Win 7).  Notice they appear to have been created 7 minutes apart and modified 1 second later than the other.  Maybe its a Windows 7 thing too.  I'm going to try this on a MAC to see if its different.

You will need to set the time zone correctly on the windows machine and the unRaid in order to use NTP.
