February 5, 201115 yr So, to add a new drive I'm expecting a 1 day process until I can use it, after preclearing it and clearing it and copying data. If a drive is pre-cleared, the unRAID server will not clear it again. Again the huge difference is when your family gets used to having the server and it is taken off-line for 10 hours if you let it clear a drive. The pre-clear allows you to have it only off-line for a few minutes. (Much easier on the family) Other than that, if you are impatient, fine. But while your movies are being copied do some reading on the forum about all the drive issues. (recently about 1 out of 5 new drives seems to be troublesome...) To preclear a 2TB drive takes between 33 and 35 hours on most servers. You'll have to ask others their opinion if the time is worth it. (Some run at least three cycles before trusting their data to the drive... That's somewhere just over 4 days.) Joe L.
