February 6, 201115 yr Hey everyone, So I'm attempting to consolidate some drives and moving a bunch of backed up .iso DVDs from my main computer onto my unRAID server for central sharing and redundancy. I recently started encountering the issue whereby I can transfer a bit of a file (sometimes as low as 40k, sometimes as big as maybe 10-20mb, perhaps even 100mb) and the server will timeout and I will get an error. I don't seem to have any issue while reading from the server, and smaller files seem to transfer without issue. I don't think it's my router, as I can share between my main PC and my laptop without issue as well (even the larger 5-8gig DVD backups). Any thoughts on where to start? I've done multiple restarts of both the server and my router. Any help would be much appreciated!
February 6, 201115 yr Seems to be an issue with the amount of free space in the array or possibly the NICs involved. Do a search on "copying files from Windows 7". I've had similar issues with both Vista and Win 7 to my UnRAID server. Although, sometimes I also have issues with small files timing out as well.
February 6, 201115 yr Author actually i just finally found a post that is explaining a similar issue and it appears to be caused by a possible faulty HDD. one of my HDDs is now giving a ton of errors, so I'm going to try replacing it to see if i get better results. I think that I wasn't getting this issue in the past as it was always using the larger of the 2 HDDs I have to store files, now that it's started using the smaller one the issue is prevalent. Hopefully a simple fix like a new HDD will be the solution! I'll post back with more results.
February 7, 201115 yr Author yes, thanks for asking. i installed a diff HDD last night and then ran some large transfers over night. not only did i notice a significant increase in data transfer rates but also had no errors. I'm going to change this to [sOLVED], just glad I kept searching the forums and stumbled across another issue that was similar to mine!
