January 18, 20215 yr Hi to all. I am new to UnRaid so I'm not 100% certain on how to proceed with the following task. I was planning on migrating 20TB of data from an old RAID PC over to my new UnRaid PC using the Krusader plugin. However, my Krusader plugin installation failed and I cannot use this app. As an alternative to Krusader I am now thinking to use the File Explorer built into my Windows 10 OS to perform all of the file migration associated tasks to my UnRaid OS system. In short, am I running a higher risk of data corruption by using my non-Linux based Windows 10 File Explorer as opposed to using the Linux based Krusader plugin? In other words, does the UnRaid OS care if all the data it holds is being organized by Windows 10 File Manager which has no Linux DNA? Is the UnRaid OS going to take kindly to Windows OS file management operations involving creating new folders, deleting data and moving folders around? I would prefer to use Krusader, but as I mentioned this app's installation failed. And referring to SpaceInvader's Krusader Installation video is not helpful since his version shown in the video has now been deprecated. Thank you for any tips.
January 18, 20215 yr Community Expert Is the Windows computer you want to use for the transfer the same computer that has the data?
January 19, 20215 yr Author Constructor, Thank you for your post and the answer to your question is Yes. And sorry I didn't mention more about my Windows10 PC/RAID5 setup. In short, my old Windows10/RAID5 PC holds the 20TB of data and the RAID5 array is setup using the onboard RAID controller built into my AsRock motherboard. All of this data contained in my old RAID5 array was originally file organized using my Windows 10 File explorer app to create folders, delete files, rename files, etc... My plan now is to peer to peer CAT6 ethernet cable connect my UnRaid File Server to my old Windows10/RAID5 PC and start copying files from my Windows10/RAID5 PC over to the UnRaid shares I see inside the "This PC" window found in my Windows10/RAID5 PC. Once all 20TBs of data is copied over to my UnRaid File Server, my plan is to perform all file management related tasks using the Windows 10 OS File Explorer. In short, I am going to be relying on the Windows 10 File Explorer app to migrate the files and also perform a bunch of "house keeping" tasks relating to reorganizing the data as a whole under all my new UnRaid shares. I would have preferred to do all of this data "house keeping" work using Krusader, but the BenHex Krusader version I installed has a host of installation problems that make it unusable which I can't figure out. In short, I just need to know if I am running a higher risk of corrupting my UnRaid Array newly migrated data by performing all my data "house keeping" related changes using the Windows10 File Explorer (non Linux based tool) as opposed to using Krusader which is a Linux based tool. My concern is my Windows10 File Explorer is going to burger up the UnRaid OS filing system and in turn corrupt my newly migrated data. Any info will be appreciated. Lastly, is a request I have to SpaceInvader who created a Krusader Installation YouTube video in the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0XCFPAsWZE SpaceInvader, can you please update your Krusader Installation YouTube video so it covers the latest BenHex Krusader version. This will help out all of us Newbies a lot. Thanks Edited January 19, 20215 yr by slipstream
January 19, 20215 yr Community Expert Unraid is a NAS. Copying files to/from other computers and Unraid over the network is the normal way of doing things. Krusader is unnecessary complication for that basic task.
