February 7, 201115 yr I think that it is better making a separate post than adding this to the 5.03 beta thread. I am using AFP and have a share with two users assigned. One user with read/write and one user with only read permissions. I had to run the newperms script manually since it did not work from the gui. All files and folders now have user:group nobody:users and folder permissions are set to drwxr-xr-x and file permissions seem to be all over the place - some have -rw-rw---- others have -rw-rwS---. From the Finder I am no longer able to change folder names or file names, nor can I delete folders or files. Has anyone else had this problem? Samba works correctly: I can both change and delete files/folders.
February 7, 201115 yr I think that it is better making a separate post than adding this to the 5.03 beta thread. I appreciate that. I am using AFP and have a share with two users assigned. One user with read/write and one user with only read permissions. I had to run the newperms script manually since it did not work from the gui. Yes this is a bug fixed in -beta4. All files and folders now have user:group nobody:users and folder permissions are set to drwxr-xr-x and file permissions seem to be all over the place - some have -rw-rw---- others have -rw-rwS---. That 'S' means the "setgid" bit is set. The netatalk documentation says this should be set, but since, at present, unRAID only has one group (users), I think the S bit is effectively meaningless - but I have to investigate this further. Still new to AFP From the Finder I am no longer able to change folder names or file names, nor can I delete folders or files. Has anyone else had this problem? When you say no longer do you mean it worked at one time?
February 8, 201115 yr Author From the Finder I am no longer able to change folder names or file names, nor can I delete folders or files. Has anyone else had this problem? When you say no longer do you mean it worked at one time? Sorry, I meant that it worked using 4.7. Since 4.7 didn't have afp support I would change that to it does not work in 5.03
February 8, 201115 yr Create/Delete/Rename of files and directories seemed to work for me. Please install 5.0-beta4 and see if the issue persists.
February 9, 201115 yr I have a similar issue. I'm running beta4 and one of my computers runs windows as is connected to the unRAID server using SMB (or just browsing through the network in Windows 7). The Macs in my network however are now mounting the server using AFP. What happens it seems is that sometimes the Windows computers can't access files that might have been altered by a Mac on the network. There is something funky going on with permissions. Maybe if there is a way to just set all permissions to 777 that would solve my problem

I need more information: - disk share or user share? - what security mode, public, secure or private? - can use set up a reproducible test case? AFP, as implemented by 'netatalk', is a bit quirky. Add on top of that OS X in general is a bit quirky. So there may be some quirks

February 9, 201115 yr +1 for saying netatalk's AFP implementation is a bit quirky -1 for saying OS X in general is a bit quirky ... Almost didn't make it out alive Tom. LOL - you don't think .AppleDouble isn't a bit "quirky"? How about creating a gazillion various other "hidden" files in every directory OS X ever traverses? I'd say that's quirky
February 9, 201115 yr Author I still have the same problems with beta4 - can't change or delete folders or files on the user share with my user who has read/write permissions. Unfortunately nothing shows up in the system log. I can read the files (open them). User share AFP activated: Secure two users allocated: one read/write and one read only. SMB not active for share Not sure what I should do since it seems to be working for some mac users. My Mac: iMac 27, Snow Leopard 10.6.6 Strangely enough, everything works on a different share set up in the same fashion.

I'd say that's quirky Well, I did give you +1 for netatalk being quirky. It isn't OSX that leaves all those files (except for .DS_Store files). The netatalk implementation does that. Granted, HFS+ is a whole different beast than most other filesystems.

Unfortunately nothing shows up in the system log. I can read the files (open them). Are these files/folders created by the user who has read/write permissions (guess it has to be right)? And netatalk is set up to be fairly "chatty" so seeing a system log might shed some light. User share AFP activated: Secure two users allocated: one read/write and one read only. SMB not active for share Not sure what I should do since it seems to be working for some mac users. My Mac: iMac 27, Snow Leopard 10.6.6 I only have 'Leopard' to test with. Might be some kind of quirk feature relevant only to Snow Leopard. Strangely enough, everything works on a different share set up in the same fashion. It might be helpful to also see directory listings, if you don't mind revealing file names. For example, ls -l /mnt/user/<your problematic share>/*

February 11, 201115 yr Author Hi, well I think I may have found the reason for not being able to change/delete files/folders from a particular user share. Since my original flash was only 128 MB and I was running out of room on it, I started using the method described in post http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3846.msg34151#msg34151 When I upgraded to 5.03 I had problems getting afp to work so I took away a number of files that were left on my original flash in the config folder, but I guess that I didn't take away enough of them since I still had permission problems that no one else seemed to have. Well, now it works. The only files left in the config folder are: *Pro.key *go *network.cfg *oldPlus.key *super.dat *super.old *timezone Sorry for any extra work anybody did trying to help with this. I can see how workarounds like this or the unmenu can affect the implementation of new versions in a negative way. Roland
May 7, 201115 yr What was in your config folder before having those listed remaining? I was able to write via AFP, but now can only do so through Samba. And on a side note, my write speeds went from 50-60MB/s down to 1-2MB/s--no idea! What can I check to figure out why my AFP is no longer able to write to any of my 2 shares?
