froland80
Just did a preclear on 2 identical 8TB HDD. Both completed successfully, but one of them took 2h longer. Any thoughts on why? Should I assume it's damaged? SMART report came back clean, but maybe it had to re-read a few sectors and is thus at the verge of damage. Both HDDs are Seagate Barracuda, about 3y old. They were previously in a raid 1 with low usage. Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
Try the disk speed test and see how they look. https://lime-technology.com/forums/topic/70636-beta-diskspeed-hard-drive-benchmarking-unraid-6/ Quote Link to comment
froland80
Thank you. Downloaded and ran the speed test tool. Turns out the slower HDD has about 10x higher Hardware ECC Recovered. Rest is the same. So, maybe something bad is indeed about to happen. I'd want to keep a very close watch on that drive. Can I set some additional warnings somewhere? ..or should I toss the drive right away? Quote Link to comment
