I am setting up another Unraid server and I want to use it as a backup server. What is the best way to sync to the backup server any new data from the main server on a schedule?

I use the method outlined in this forum thread.  It may seem a little daunting at first, but once you get it going it is set it and forget it.

 

My script does the following via a cron schedule from User Scripts:

 

1. Powers on the backup server via IPMI (you can use S3 wake/sleep if you wish and your MB supports it)
2. Sets up email
3. Backs up share to share (since I don't have exactly the same number and size of data disks in both servers)
4. Captures everything in a log
5. Emails me the summary log
6. Powers (or S3 sleep) down the backup server via IPMI until the next backup is run.
