High read use on a single disk

Featured Replies

Hello unRAID forums,

Background story:

I've had issues with a lot of CPU usage, and I found out it was CPU IOwaits, but I noticed at the same time, a single disk was reading a lot.

The same disk had a "UDMA CRC ERROR COUNT". I read on these forums it's not dangerous, just make sure the cables are correctly plugged in.

Last night I looked at the disk, unplugged it and plugged it in again.

I ran an extended SMART test without errors, and without dockers started.

Now it looks like the CPU usage is gone, but the disk read isn't:

The issue started when I started the dockers again, but I can't figure out which one it is.
I've used Nerd Tools to install "iotop". I've also used "htop" and "docker stats".

It shows a bunch, but I can't seem to find the source to my problem.

After a while, it's normal again, but that can be anything from 5 minutes to 5 hours.

htop:

docker stats:

iotop:

I've noticed the "php /config/www/artisan schedule:run" usually is in the top of iotop, but I can't figure out what it is, except it's a scheduled run of something.
Google didn't help me on that one.

I've added my diagnostics as well.

Does any of you know what it is, and how to fix it?

Stop all dockers then start one at a time until you find the culprit.

I've been running the same containers for a while with no issues, so I don't get why it suddenly started doing this.

I'll do it if the problem appears again, atm. it's gone.
