March 15, 201115 yr Thank you Heretic, Yes - I get the following IPMI events: 1 2011/03/12 15:31:20 FAN 5 Fan Lower Non-Critical - Going Low - Asserted 2 2011/03/12 15:31:20 FAN 5 Fan Lower Critical - Going Low - Asserted 3 2011/03/12 15:31:20 FAN 5 Fan Lower Non-Recoverable - Going Low - Asserted N.b. Fan 5 isn't connected I emailed Supermicro tech support and got advised to update the BIOS and IPMI firmware... which I will do at some point, but not quite now. Other than this minor glitch, the server is working beautifully and I want to enjoy using it before I go flashing the BIOS and screwing something up!!! Will keep this thread posted on results.
March 16, 201115 yr Author hopefully bios update will be smoother for you than it went for me I'd try to update ipmi first unplug the power and see if that fixes the events
March 16, 201115 yr hopefully bios update will be smoother for you than it went for me Yes - I hate flashing firmware - I actually pulled my system apart to install a backplane last night, and since turning it back on haven't had any errors at all. So, I think I'm going to leave this sleeping dog for the time-being... Was the IPMI update painless/ worth doing? If so, perhaps I'll do that. Really appreciate tapping your knowledge on this one - I'm sorry you had to go through the pain!
March 16, 201115 yr Author yes the ipmi update was easy as was the first time flashing the bios not sure what went wrong after that. think it had something to do with the filenames being too long. so in the end i renamed the bios firmware to an shorter filename.
