Best practice to back up the whole server

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am quite new to Unraid and looking for a way to back up the whole server: The flash drive, Shares, VMs and Dockers. I myself can save the data to another Unraid server and in rotation to external drives, but I would like to discuss the possibilities in general.

So far, I found the following solutions...

CA Appdata Backup / Restore (v2) Plugin: For backing up the appdata folder, restarting the dockers automatically.

CA Appdata Backup / Restore v2

Danioj’s script to save VMs, described in Spaceinvader One‘s excellent videos:

unraid-autovmbackup

Backing up and restoring VMs in unRAID manually

Backing up VMs in unRAID automatically

Mgutt’s script for incremental backups using rsync:

rsync Incremental Backup

Which method can you recommend and for which use case? I like to find out what is best practice. What combinations are you using? Is there another plugin or docker that you use to back up your Server?

Greetings,

Leo
