[SOLVED] Maintain current configuration with new flash drive

Featured Replies

I have a current server with a Plus license.  I purchased a pro license (on a preconfigured drive) and would like to switch over to it.  If I copy the whole drive minus the plus license will I lose any settings, or risk any data corruption?  Is there a better way to do this?

You only need to copy the config folder.

Unless he has some packages installed via unMenu or the like.

The above posting is correct though, you can just copy the config folder over if you are running stock unRAID.

I do have a few packages installed through unmenu, so how does that change things?  Do I simply have to reinstall those packages?  I assumed that copying the whole drive excluding the license would take care of that but it sounds like it doesn't.

copy the /boot/packages and

/boot/unmenu directories too.

So basically copying the whole drive sans the license file should work?

So basically copying the whole drive sans the license file should work?

yes.

You will need to make the new drive "bootable" by running syslinux on it and setting the volume label.

Why did you purchase a new Pro preconfigured flash drive instead of upgrading your Plus license to a Pro license?  Do you have plans for the Plus license?  No problem with that, I'm just curious.

When copying the contents of a flash disk to a new flash disk, do not copy the file called "ldlinux.sys".  It is needed to boot.  Not sure it would hurt anything to  copy it over, but it very well might render the new disk not bootable.

Yes I have plans for the Plus license and I purchased a Pro license but not the configured drive.

Just wanted to say thanks.  All went without problem.
