ghostr1der
Wake up today to 2 errors on one of my drives. I'm not sure what everything in the report means. I'm trying to see if this drive is for sure in need of replacement. Context: I just moved the server to different hardware yesterday (Dell T30 to Dell R720xd) and added 2 new drives as I was out of space. They were nearing the end of the initial clearing when the errors on the other disk showed. That process is now stopped until I can figure out this older drive. Unfortunately for me, if replacement is needed, the new drives are smaller than the old one. Here is the smart log for the drive: smartctl 7.1 2019-12-30 r5022 [x86_64-linux-5.10.28-Unraid] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-19, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Model Family: Western Digital Red Device Model: WDC WD120EMFZ-11A6JA0 Serial Number: LU WWN Device Id: 5 000cca 264d19f51 Firmware Version: 81.00A81 User Capacity: 12,000,138,625,024 bytes [12.0 TB] Sector Sizes: 512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical Rotation Rate: 5400 rpm Form Factor: 3.5 inches Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show] ATA Version is: ACS-2, ATA8-ACS T13/1699-D revision 4 SATA Version is: SATA 3.2, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 6.0 Gb/s) Local Time is: Mon May 31 11:17:15 2021 CDT SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. JorgeB
SMART looks fine, please post complete diagnostics (tools -> diagnostics) it might give more clues. Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
There are constant controller errors with that disk, try replacing/swapping cables/slot with another one and rebuild. Quote Link to comment
ghostr1der
To clarify, move the disk to a different slot and rebuild using the same disk? If rebuild fails, can I still rebuild with a replacement disk later? Stop array>Unassign and move disk>Start array to register missing disk>Stop array>Reassign disk>Start array to rebuild Quote Link to comment

ghostr1der
No matter where I put the disk, it is no longer showing up at all. The emulated disk is still running, but the original disk is invisible. Quote Link to comment
ghostr1der
Hooked the drive up via usb to windows machine. It only registers as unallocated. Using DiskInternals Linux reader. UFS Explorer does not recognize it either, just read error, no file system. Paragon does not see anyting either. I am guessing it's time to RMA this one? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
If it's not being detected anymore yes. Quote Link to comment
